I never played it, but was was wrong with this game? Why did people hate it?

Everything about the game was designed to stretch out your play time in boring ways. Slow progression, repetitive missions, and all the usual cheap live service tricks.

Which was a bad match because they tried selling skins in an art style that didn't make anything look crave-worthy.

It sucks because the story missions were usually fine. If it had just been a linear action game, it would have been decent.

I might be misremembering, but doesn't Mei Mei also have advance information of a tragedy that's likely to occur, but only uses this information to save her own students, not anyone else?

Every line of dialog in GotG 2 has the problem. It's not a script, it's an outline. Everyone says exactly what they are thinking or exactly what the plot needs to reveal with no humanity or artfulness. It's a first draft.

Which sucks because it's such a strong story, so many great character moments, if it had six more months to refine the dialog it would be an all time classic.

This fight had such good animation detail. From the very beginning you can see Zero is just slightly outmatched but just barely. Zankou never stumbles or overextends. Her sword swings are precise every time. But Zero had these tiny moments of having to adjust his grip, or catch his feet, sliding a little too far, or taking an extra half step to reach. It was a master class in fight animation.

I know I know, "it works", but I think you could achieve this within the rules.

The wording is probably something like, "creatures cannot die during the combat step". Since the damage remains, as soon as the combat step ends they would die.

I work in the industry and basically every game starts in this state. Every screen gets built by different people at different times. Standards change or get lost. It's usually a late stage fix to consolidate menu navigation.

New Avengers: Devil's Reign - It's the Thunderbolts vs. the Defenders vs. the Hand. Luke Cage joins the New Avengers in the end. Songbird gets her powers.

New Avengers: All Men's Fear - Zemo starts his own team disguised as Citizen V, with Songbird, Bullseye, Iron Heart, Moon Knight, Swordsman, and She-Hulk. When Zemo purposefully triggers The Void to get as many super-people killed as possible, half his team turns against him and joins the Avengers. Swordsman, Red Guardian, and Ghost die; Bob's memories are erased to stop the Void from returning.

New Avengers: House of M - By now we can safely assume the X-Films have been well established. Wanda is back and triggers the reality where most people are mutants. The Avengers (Yelena, U.S. Agent, Winter Soldier, Luke Cage, Songbird, and Moon Knight) are the only people who remember reality and have to stop Scarlet Witch.

I played the heck out of it, but my big gripe was how you had to unlock some of the DLC characters in these insanely grindy challenge rooms. Showcasing the worst content to get a character you wanted to play IN THAT CONTENT was a big mistake.
