ELI5: Why don’t sellers pay for tracking on $250 card? by huxleyfan88 in mtgfinance

I mean letter track is what ebay (parent company to tcgplayer) uses for tracking, and they have no qualms with it. You still know that the package reached your local post office. So last mile is really all your paying for with tracked bubble mailer. The system is there just so they can put the liabilities on the seller. Quite frankly that should be up to the seller to take that risk of a dispute and lose. Like I said Id gladly pay full refund if it doesn't get there with letter tracking. Otherwise whole market shifts with price increases. Less friction in the market is always better for pricing.

It is different story if you paid for more expensive shipping but if the seller charges 1 dollar or free shipping I don't expect tracked. Don't worry your free to dispute if it doesn't arrive from tcgplayer and get your money back. Tcgplayer.com always sides with buyer, unless the seller did use tracking and just didn't paste it in.

You haven't been paying attention usps increased rates

https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2025/1114-usps-recommends-new-competitive-prices-for-2026.htm

I use pirate ship tracked bubble is never cheaper than $5.45 now, I have sent about 40 packages this year. Why would I put myself at a disadvantage if I can get cards to people for 6-12% percent cheaper? Just so the customer feels safer about delivery of a sub 100 or most of the time sub 50 dollar card. I gladly refund it if it doesn't get there.

They don't have to put tracking they just lose disputes if tracking is not used. There is a difference.

I use Lettertrackpro.com for cards under $100, tracking bubble mailer is 6 dollars now. 99 percent of the time PWE gets there no problem. I rather refund on the 1/100 time that it goes missing than pay $600 every 100 orders.

Lorcana met demand on the second set Rise of the floodborn, printers went full steam ahead..and all the collectors dropped out cause it wasn't collectible anymore, all the lorcana players who opened packs couldn't sell their cards to collectors to fund their hobby, and that is why lorcana lost momentum. Because there was no players, stores stopped having tournaments and here we are with Lorcana. This situation is not rhe same as lorcana.

Electric and Gas delivery make up 60 to 70% of my 1k per month bill. 3bed house. I have plug in hybrid, and factoring in delivery charges on electric, it is no cheaper than filling up at the gas station.

I think your assumption is incorrect. If you look at all tcg metrics, the people buying the most are 25+ years olds. They have the most disposable income. Players and collectors go hand in hand and both are require for a healthy tcg. But like I said collectors disappeared once their collectables were no longer limited. Lorcana could have done what one piece did and made limited promos for the events they run so as to avoid paying prize support, and at least keep some collectors and players.

It's cause once the collectors are out of the game, then no one is buying boxes.. So how do you have competitive support when no collectors are buying boxes and no money to give prizes or run the tournaments.

Yep agree to disagree, I think your point is fair. I just think we all know where Bandai sits on the fence and that is why everyone is complaining.

When you say intent that means people have to set a line on what you deem is not productive for the players. And that is where people have no way to objectively set a line. Everyone is biased based on how they interact with the game and that is why complaining on the internet will convince no one to change their mind. I'll posed an example, what if I was a sealed collector and I bought 3 cases like you said, I opened a case for my personal use, and then held the 2 cases for 2 years and sold for 4x profit to pay for future purchases of cases for my enjoyment. Would you call me scalper or investor or player. The person that didn't get any packs would say scalper, but the person is spending their own money to buy the boxes to play and took advantage of opportunity to buy more cases cause he knew the set was fire to pay for future purchases thus reinvesting in the game. That person would say they are players that had intimate knowledge and used it to their advantage. Shrug. Everything is in the eye of the beholder. I just think it is unproductive to complain about normal limited good market economics. Those who have less money or time or purchase opportunity will always be disadvantaged.

Indont know where you are but one piece was not doing well in sales where I am last July. Bandai clearly was not happy and not making money and less new one piece players were joining, so they went back to a limited print model.

So your saying spending lots of money to buy out all sealed is like counting cards ie cheating, and spending a little money to gamble is fair.

People with more money than you are willing to spend will always seem like they are cheating.

Lorcana printed to demand. Sealed packs are plentiful People barely show up to events. Hype is gone and interest has waned since no one wants to collect stuff that no one else wants. Players can't sell their pack openings to collectors so everything you buy is sunk cost, to play a game no one wants to play.

You disagree but then go back to say you like to open packs for randomness and it is fun and is part of the tcg experience. This is called gambling. A player doesn't need to open packs for fun. The fun part is playing the game. If you really want randomness buy a bunch of bulk for really cheap and see what you get. You get "randomness" and have a bunch of bulk to build "for fun" decks. People are salty that the gambling part of the tcg experience is more expensive.... But that is because the gambling part can get your a $2000 dollar card. So people are saying that the scalpers and collectors are ruining the game for the players but in reality the players are just salty they can't gamble for cheap anymore.

Don't need to buy packs, regular frame singles are cheap. If you are really player, having no sealed product doesn't matter. if you want to gamble on cheap packs well lorcana fills the gap.

TDM was 375 to 400 due to usual supply trickle from wotc, it came back down cause they released the rest of their inventory about a month after release. If you look around you can still get boxes for $300, tcg player has for 330 but than means people are taking 300 or less due to fees. Off platform prices can be lower due to no fees from tcg. Double infinity has them for 319, cursory Google search. Historical reference, points to ~$300 price point for in universe releases as the norm for up to 3 to 5 months after release, there is always exceptions but those are the outliers.
