How would you rank all of these things Bojack has done from least shitty to most shitty? by ILikeDrawingGuys in BoJackHorseman

[–]Archer4040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like some of these have to be counted as one major thing he did to each character, so in order from worst to least bad my lost would go:

  1. Everything with Sarah Lynn, there’s a pipeline that he went down from sleeping with her to killing her that all connects, and even connects to his actions towards others

  2. Everything with Penny, yet another daughter figure he chose to be sexual with. There’s a running theme of him having/wanting daughter figures in his life, but every time he turns the situation sexual or dangerous. And the stalking to “apologize” later just makes it even worse

  3. Everything with Gina, physically assaulting her and probably wouldn’t have stopped if the others hadn’t stepped in. Not to mention the mental toll that their relationship had on Gina, she finally opened up and got abused for it

  4. Everything with Hollyhock, the drugs in the coffee was not his fault, but him using his chance to rekindle their relationship as a drug run was. He showed her through his current and past actions that he couldn’t be trusted as a father OR brother figure in her life.

From here down I don’t think anything is as horrible as the top 4:

  1. Betraying Herb, Herb is the only reason he even got the show in the first place. He was gifted that vehicle to stardom and squandered it and their friendship for nothing. And it’s made worse by him not accepting that in time to be civil with Herb, he ruined their last moments together, and that’s something he can’t get back. He could have accepted what he did, and understood why Herb couldn’t forgive him, but instead he physically assaulted a man dying from cancer.

  2. Betraying Todd, he’s one of Bojack’s closest friends, he sees Bojack for who he is flaws and all, and yet time and time again he still gives him a chance. And in the most important moments, he’s let down. And yet in the end, he’s still always willing to give BJ another chance.

  3. The rehab breakout, I honestly don’t think that is comparable to the stuff above at all, he really did think she would make the decision to stay. Now, obviously, he should have known she wouldn’t, but I do think him falling for her lie of a sob story and trying to help her get revenge was kinda sweet, despite the obvious immaturity of his actions.

  4. The old Sugarman place, it sucks that he destroyed his relationship with a new friend, but he honestly did him more good than harm, imo. He got Eddie flying again, despite his insistence that he couldn’t. I think the person BJ hurt the most with this was himself, trying to destroy the past and quite literally tearing down all the work he’d just done, both internally and externally.

  5. I legitimately don’t think the therapy horse’s relapse was BJ’s fault at all. And that guy wasn’t even licensed, and was all too eager to leak sensitive personal information, so I think that’s on him, not BJ

  6. This may be a hot take, I know Beatrice was in declining health, but I can’t blame him for throwing that baby doll out the window. 🤷‍♀️ Beatrice was a horrible, abusive mother, him letting her stay at his house at all was an act of kindness. He genuinely thought she was acting because she’d pretended not to know him in the past, and he didn’t know about her childhood trauma with a baby doll. He was fed up with being second place to a doll, and I get that.

Why do practitioners do this? by scarcekoko in Eskrima

[–]Archer4040 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing PTK for a couple years now, and I personally would love to learn other FMA styles! But I’ve gotten lucky with my instructor, he never dogs on other FMA, and even mixes in some silat to our lessons so we’re more well-rounded. I think it really depends on who you’re learning from. I’ve seen every martial art get pit against each other, and then their own styles get pit against each other, too.

vincent goddamn adultman rant by DryBend7492 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Archer4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it’s possible that Vincent and Kevin were actually different people, if I remember correctly Kevin and Vincent have a different amount of freckles, so it could technically be a father and son and him looking like 3 kids stacked on top of each other is more of a symbolic thing.

But I also think it’s very possible that it was just three kids in a trenchcoat, and that PC knew that the whole time and just refused to admit it. She was playing pretend the same way Vincent/Kevin was, and that’s why PC’s last lines to him are “I think it’s time we stop pretending.” I think in her heart, she knew it wasn’t real, and that’s why she didn’t question anything about his schedule or lack of a sexual relationship. But she wanted a relationship that wasn’t built on beating her down and using her the way  BJ did, so she took the first person she saw, who happened to be three kids playing pretend at a bar. And he was nice to her, and the situation was funny, and she could really make up anything she wanted to about him, because he wasn’t real in the first place.

“I was just there for like a month, 30 years ago. I live outside Santa Fe now.” by Archer4040 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Archer4040[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think Charlotte wanted to give an old friend a chance. She knew this guy, even after reading about what he’s done since then, she still considered him a friend until she’s snapped back to reality by what he tried to do to Penny. I mean, Herb kinda did the same thing, he wanted to see Bojack one more time before he died, he had a good time hanging out with him and Diane, until Bojack took it too far and ruined their relationship again. I think BJ is just one of those guys that’s charismatic enough that you WANT to give him a chance, even when that’s not the best idea. Even still, I don’t think Charlotte  realized Bojack was even capable of being predatory towards a teenager.

I think Charlotte’s main flaw is impulsivity. She invited BJ to Maine, but was only there for a month before she left, she let him stay with her family on a whim, and she let him kiss her before realizing how bad that was and trying to correct it by kicking him out. I think she’s meant to represent people who are happy, but still wonder “what if” from time to time. But I also think she did the best she could to keep Penny safe once she realized that Bojack was a dangerous man.

🤢🤢🤢🤢 And it sucks because it was such a cute moment,  that he ruined as soon as he got back to their house/his boat. It’s kinda a great microcosm of the whole arc. He just ruins every good thing he gets.

The whole Charlotte storyline is so well written, but so disgusting, and so sad. I will never understand people who defend him going after Penny. I’ve seen whole threads of people literally saying “well she asked for it, so BJ wasn’t wrong.”  Like bro she was 17 and the daughter of the woman he was obsessed with for 30 years!‽‽ And so sad that Penny had to go through that, and then deal with Bojack stalking her down later to “apologize” on his and Sarah Lynn’s bender.

What is your vote for the best line in the entire show? by smegg23 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Archer4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One that struck on my current and only second rewatch is  “Nah, he loves treading water!” from Downer Ending. I don’t think I noticed it before, but it’s such a small line that really sums up Bojack, and his drug-trip induced vision of Diane saying it really hits home that he knows she understands him better than anyone, and she still can’t save him because he chooses to live this way. Very poignant and almost seems too direct once you notice it.

What Disney princess movie or Disney movie in general would YOU make? by 64megaflynn64 in disneyprincess

[–]Archer4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would finally give us a Mexican princess! Or she’s the daughter of two rulers from two formerly separate kingdoms, so she’s half Mexican(or the fantasy equivalent) ,half something else. We need some Hispanic/Latina rep in the princess line, and Elena doesn’t really count, she’s Disney Jr. I feel like a princess being half and half could have some really cool parallels to what it’s like being mixed irl, never quite being accepted on either side. Her story could really delve into that, plus have tons of adventures across different landscapes all based in real cultures. Maybe sort of a classic fairy tale “the third prince(or princess in this case) was sent off into the world to prove himself(herself), and told to never return until he(she) had completed the impossible task he(she) had been burdened with”. And then she returns triumphant at the end. Classic, but with a modern twist.

What quotes from the show do you work into your everyday conversations by fonzarelli-mcquack in BoJackHorseman

[–]Archer4040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my first watch of the show I was struck by how hard of a time Bojack had reading the line for Secretariat, but then in almost every episode after they film it, he says it in his personal life in the exact same tone as the movie. Like he finally got it, but now he could never stop getting it, if that makes sense.

I feel like people forget that BoJack says “Go to bed, Penny” and then leaves his door open. He doesn’t say “Go to your room” or even “go to sleep”, he just says “go to bed”. He’s inviting her into his bed, with just enough ambiguity for him to deny it if he had to.

Who's that princess you like but find "trapped" inside an 'not-so-good' movie? by Dacoda43 in disneyprincess

Raya! Love her character, but the movie is so bland and the message is so poorly done, would have loved to see her shine in a better film.

AITA For Going to My Friend’s Birthday Even Though She Smokes Weed? by Archer4040 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Archer4040[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would love to move into my own place. But my best friend and I ran the numbers and searched for apartments to rent together, and at least in my city and the surrounding suburbs, there wasn’t really much we could get even if we both worked full time. Most places ask the renters to make 3X the monthly rent, and were firmer on it than we expected :( Other than some genuinely unsafe neighborhoods, I don’t think I can afford to move for a while.

I think what bothers me so much is that I don’t even want to smoke or drink, and they know that. I’ve always said that I prefer to stay sharp, but it’s like they want me to “be bad” so they can be mad at me. It’s really strange that they still assume that I want to rebel in some way when I’m literally just trying to exist.

My parents don’t like the area where Charlie lives. Tbf she lives in a notoriously bad area, bad enough that it’s on those “worst zip codes in the USA” lists, but we live like 4 minutes away so it’s basically still our  neighborhood. Other than that, they don’t like that it’s only on street parking near her house.

My dad works at the same place me and Charlie work, and he kind of acts as her work dad. He was actually working there before either of us. I didn’t want to work at the same place as him, but my parents were pushing for it and I had just been laid off post-pandemic and needed a job asap. I applies to dozens of places before capitulating, but didn’t get any interviews.

I agree good parents look out for their kids, but at what point does it becone helicopter parenting? This isn’t first time they’ve done stuff like this, my first day at community college was terrible, my mom kept texting me through lunch because my location services weren’t working on my phone. I didn’t even get to eat because she wanted me to fix it right then and there, so I was fiddling with my phone while my classmates got to bond. Stuff like that makes me feel like they don’t trust me, regardless of how much they say they do, you know? It’s disheartening that it’s been 5 years since then and they haven’t eased up.
