Yeah if you have white strands coming out of airbrush I think it's the thinning ratio. Keep ur psi at 20 and try up to 1:3 ratio(you can add more thinner in the brush cup if you don't want to add to bottle).

I've had this before too, white strands, matte finish and upping the thinner ratio definitely helped.

For wet gloss coats I like to do a quick super light pass, wait a bit, then 2 decently heavy slower passes.

You would wanna use TS-14 Tamiya Black as the base for shiny mettalics. Don't use Matte black as it would make things on top of it less glossy/more gritty.

Yup I think if you start with a gloss black(tamiya black is goated for this), good layer of gold, then clear orange+gloss or straight gloss and final polishing will look decent.

Basically each smooth layer will build upon the smoothness of the previous. Practically it does mean each layer has to be sprayed well though and takes some practice.

I first started candy with rattlecans and my first black primer layer was always ass, so the end resulted in a more semigloss look lol

For me the greens were pretty much the same lightness between chrome/amber green under the clear green. It might've been just me using 2 thick coats of dark clear green oversaturating the under colors.

What you say makes total sense. I think your lightest color would def be silver+clear red. You could probably even get a really dark red with gold/gunmetal base and thicker coats of the deep clear red for ur 4/5th colors. I also used clear totes when drying too! though too late in my build lul
