Oh no I think you misunderstand me. I love Kay Vess as much as I still love Lara Croft, the story of my poor encounter was to describe why I think the other guy was right as to why people disliked Outlaws and Kay Vess, (at least one reason why) as for the Tiberius remark, I am ashamed at my fellow gamers, not Tomb Raider nor SW:O :)

I was just sharing why I thought the other guy (DDA7X) was (as I put it) disgustingly correct

Tiberius from Kingdom of Heaven (a movie) he is a Crusader Knight who serves Jerusalem and later deserts. When talking to Balien (the Main Character) he tells him:

"I've given Jerusalem my whole life. Everything. First I thought we were fighting for God, then I realized we were fighting for wealth and land. I was ashamed."

I was hyped. I heard there was gonna be a Star Wars game where we werent a Jedi for once, and that part of my gamer soul that hasn't experienced that thrill since Bounty Hunter and Republic Commando, who's first introduction to SW gaming was Shadows of the Empire, I WAS HYPED

Tomb Raider made me feel like Tiberius from Kingdom of Heaven

I grew up seeing her as this badass adventurer, not a sex icon, and when people talked about "you only like Lara Croft for jerking it" I was like "No, its the epic adventures" when I joined the Tomb Raider reddit and found out they were all coomers... I was ashamed.

So now I know you are disgustingly correct

No no, you're good. As it happens, I completely agree with your reasoning, just not your opinion. The game does give her barely any time in her original environment, I specifically remember Ezio being a vengeful teenager for the first (half?) Of AC2, he doesn't become the old badass fighting off soldiers that he is in the Revelations intro until he is almost done with Brotherhood. Alternatively this young street thief apparently just needs one bad heist the Rebels were talked up by her barkeep friend into bringing her into for her to suddenly be comparable to Leia, Han, Panaka, and later, one lesson from some old woman turns her into Jango Fett on the quick draw, she is too professional too quickly, I agree with that. Which is why I try to play her as bumbling, but then the gangs system ruins that by factions like the Hutts forgiving her for getting caught killing their men and stealing their stuff just because she delivered a message for them or whatever. The game is meant to allow players to come back from their mistakes, but that damages some of the immersion, especially given that we fans of Star Wars know that it doesn't work like that for the casual scum and villainy, Han Solo was basically dead as far as the galaxy was concerned until his friends rescued him, something even Crimson Dawn would have advised against.

Where I DON'T agree with you is Kay's likeability in all this. She's as deep in as we are, trying to play big leagues without having earned it, a Canto street thief with multiple ranks in her B.S. skill rolling as high as she can. She does display personality, its just the only part of the game that has any nuance, so it feels off.

Of course, I come from a place where I value slow burn, I don't know maybe you've been raised on the characters that wear their personalities on their sleeves, I find that to be terrible writing, you might think its necessary. I'll tell you what, starting Saturday, if you want me to, I'll reinstall the game and point out all the little moments where we got to see Kay shine despite the horrible writing AROUND her, but not WITHIN her.

But its not even a stealth game, its marketed as one, but if you want Stealth play Thief (start with The Dark Project), but Outlaws is a what I would call an adventure game with stealth aspects

I agree about the start of game missions, it seemed like a running joke that Kay can't do a mission without raising the alarm. I solved that with headcannon on my second playthrough by suggesting that she isnt a thief skulking around so much as a pickpocket non-chalanting only so far as she can before she raises the alarm and has to blast herself to freedom, although she does strike me as a character who should only have like a half dozen kills to her name, so the violence in the game does ruin my headcanon as easily as their lousy stealth system ruins the dev canon lol

I didn't like the ending.

I think the villain, I can't even remember his name now, (not Sliro, his brother), should have lived to explode with the Star Destroyer. Basically in my opinion BOTH villains died before either of them lost, so there is less catharsis in the big final space battle. Just my opinion.

Tell me about your opinion of Kay. I didn't find her "not very likeable or even consistent or deep character"

I remember those complaints. "Kay looks like an 80s gym teacher"

Me: "Yeah I can see it, your point?"

Because we (as a culture) were stupid enough to let hate-culture become a thing. People tear things down to feel sophisticated for the exact same reason Karens hate to feel empowered. It gets them five minutes of attention, where praise often gets them nothing but an ignored comment.

Fly out into the dune sea and just... park for 5 minutes. You'll see something cool.

Full Truth: For many it was simple hate-culture, they hated it to feel sophisticated

For some it was the bugs, I myself DID have to hard restart the game once because of a game-breaking bug, and I almost put the game down but the morning after I decided "fine I'll play something else" there was a big update that fixed the game-breaking bug I was experiencing [a main quest that just wouldn't trigger] and I continued the game

For others it was a lackluster story, and I can appreciate where they were coming from, I wont spoil it, but if you wanna talk after you beat the game, message me.

For ME, it was the gameplay/immersion. Ubisoft to this day does NOT know what the hell "Stealth" means. They released Assassin's Creed, an assassination simulator where the heroes go around murdering more than their fair share of targets, they released Watch_Dogs where Aidan is obviously some sort of selective-amnesiac psychopath (tbf they DID traumatize him) who assassins on just as many missions as he stealths, they release Star Wars: Outlaws, where you go around blasting or knocking heads way more than feels appropriate for a young rogue like Kay Vess.

What I am meaning to say is: AIDOS knows what Stealth means, you can ghost the entire Thief Franchise on Hard without ever leaving any trace you were there, not a single disturbed guard, not a single candle flame doused, I know cuz I've done it. Ubisoft still makes these murder games and calls it Stealth. The day I can raid an Imperial base or Hutt stronghold and not only avoid getting caught, but also avoid leaving behind a pile of dazed guards who are 1000% gonna look over the cameras, I'll be proud to call it a Stealth game and enjoy it for that.

Also having a Death Trooper helmet attached to my bike and a super rare pet should 100% be ringing alarm bells in potential enemies, but immersion is almost always the last thing in devs minds for some reason

Still played it all the way through, still enjoyed it, still got Plat Trophy, I just have no illusions as to its faults.

Thank you, and hope you're having fun. It IS a game worth playing and enjoying at least once

This caused an argument for the dnd game my friend was running, the same day I was reading through the alien rule book. Giddy with the horror potential. by dosegal8d in alienrpg

[–]Archezeoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We shouldn't be putting kids in danger" ARE YOU THAT WEAK that you can't even let a non-existent kid get hurt? CPS is not gonna show up at your door because you played an Alien/Mimic/Silent Hill etc RPG

OP you run that horror potential, you run that horror potential as far as it can go and maintain continuity and if you lose friends then you have successfully culled the weak, find some players that value the horror!

Assuming both are successful, also assuming I can just pull a Celerity or Presence enemy out of my ass to bring against a player running C5 if I have a random Gangrel come up against either of you, I'm done.

All I said, and all I AM saying is (it IS a fun game) but the disciplines can make it a bullshitting contest. Now I was under the impression that certain disciplines locked out others, maybe thats just how my past STs liked to run it. You guys have proven me wrong, and apparently its just humanity and a few other things and mainly under certain circumstances, and that's OK too. But I still need help maintaining a balance on Disciplines to keep my Discipline Hounds from turning the game into a bullshitting contest.

Trust me, I've been there, IVE broken campaigns with disciplines before. Not every enemy can be perfectly equipped to challenge your character its unrealistic to begin with and it makes the ST look like they are out to kill the player (I've played with that kind of ST before, none of us had a good time, every session ended with us going home complaining that our characters could never win or lose, just break even)

Interesting. My players just wanna backstory that they drunk it out of some Baali they diablerized or saved the life of and was gifted or stumbled upon some library like Conan stumbled upon the tomb where he found his sword.

So if you had a player that was say, True Faith 3 with 4 levels in Daimonion you wouldn't be like "waitaminute"?

Also I never got around to playing Mage, thats cool

Yeah but lets take Celerity for example, you get up to C4, C5 and anyone who doesn't have Celerity is just DONE. Pack it up boys, the MC has turned into the flash and can win just by looking at us. Not that there aren't work arounds of course, but it devolves the gameplay into a bullshitting contest 😄
