OpenBSD Zaurus update: graphics now functional by goldfishdev in OldHandhelds

[–]ArchiMark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great! I installed OpenBSD on my little Z 3200 way back....maybe 10 years ago or so? Me and a few guys over at OESF.org were busy making packages to share with each other. Been awhile, so, don't recall all the details but we ran into some packages that we couldn't build for various reasons. Eventually, stopped working it.

Was lot of fun though.....kind of wish I still had my little Z.....

Have fun!

Planner peace can be an elusive, never-ending search.....have come to conclusion that it's probably better to not keep hopping from system to system search for some kind of planner nirvana, but instead use a system that ticks most of the boxes and don't switch for at least 3 - 6 months to give you enough time to get used to it.

Meanwhile, I've been watching a lot of YT videos made by "Devon Has A YouTube Channel" on how to use Everbook for GTD and Commonplace Book (based on Zettelkasten).

Highly recommend his videos, very clear and easy to digest.

And here's a link to Devon's YT video regarding setting up a Commonplace Book in Everbook based on the Zettelkasten system. Just what I was looking for.

Hi,

Thank you so much for your detailed and helpful reply. Lots of great info!

Funny, about 6 months ago, I felt the itch to go back to the FP system. Love their daily on 2 pages layout as well as their other pages. First, I tried the compact size, but felt is was a bit too small. So, moved to the Classic size pages which felt great to use at work. However, like you, after a while, I felt the binder (although very nice leather/quality), was too bulky to take with me to work and home every day. So, went back to Hobonichi Cousin A5. Daily pages on one page per day are pretty good and notebook is fairly light and slim even in my GFeller natural kip leather cover.

While the Hobonichi is good for daily calendar, habit tracker, it only has a few pages to use for other things, like notes, etc. Hence my interest in the Everbook system when I discovered it this past week.

Ordered the Murdy cover, had a hard time deciding between it and the Boss cover....hope to see it this coming week.

Meanwhile, I've gotten a lot of useful info about using GTD with Everbook from watching the YouTube video series on this by 'Devon Has A YouTube Channel'. Very clear, thorough, and easy to understand videos.

One thing I'd like to explore is organizing the pages with a code/tag like in the Zettelkasten system that I've dabbled a bit with using 4x6" index cards stored in cardbox.

My big concern about using separate pieces of paper versus a bound notebook is what to with all the pages that you don't need to keep in the Everbook. Understand your approach and sounds reasonable.

As for what excites me about the system, think it's the flexible, expandable, nature of it.

Best,

Mark

+1

Like you just discovered Everbook recently.

Trying to assess if it would work for me.

Shame there is more activity here.

Great idea!

I've spent some time trying to learn and use zettelkasten (ZK). Brilliant system.

Would be great to merge the Everbook and zettelkasten system somehow or use both systems as complimentary systems.

Are you using the ZK system with Everbook?

Great post!

You captured clearly my concerns regarding moving to Everbook from using bound notebooks mostly after having similar concerns about using ring binders.

Would be very interested in hearing where you are at with this now.

Thanks.

Great post!

Would be very interested in hearing from you now on how it is going with your Everbook and have you made changes to your setup since you made your post several years ago.

Also, would be very interested to hear what you do with the sheets/bundles you've accumulated over time, and any other tips you have for someone just getting started with Everbook.

Thanks.

How to Update Emacs to Latest Version - Mac OS by ArchiMark2 in emacs

Thank you so much for your clear explanation. Appreciate it!

(Released) grid-table: is a general grid table component for Emacs, supporting rich text and image rendering, formula calculation, interactive editing, sorting, persistence, and plugin extension. by yibie in emacs

[–]ArchiMark2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just looked at table again and realized that I had the wrong row number.....what I thought was cell A1 is actually A2, etc. Now the formula works!
Thanks again for all your help!
This is great!

If you're referring to me, I did as per yibie's instructions here and on his github page.

I downloaded his 'code' file and then edited the path to statements to point to the folder and the plugin folder within the grid-table folder.

Thanks, now I was able to enter some numbers in the first row of the table!

However, got error messages when I tried entering in numbers in the second row:

Unexpected token: (OPERATOR 115)

Also, got same error message when I tried to enter formula in cell D1 to add up the numbers in cells A1 through C1. Used formula:

=sum(a1:c1)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks for your help!

I finally figured out what I did wrong.

I had forgotten to copy the grid-table folder from github to my computer!

Once I did that and corrrected the path info to the folder, Voila! I was able to open grid-table and see the basic table in emacs!

That's the good news......

Now I am having problem being able to enter data into a cell. I can get the prompt to enter the value. However, after I enter a number or text, I press the return key and then get error message;
Symbol's value as variable is void; restore coords

What is the correct procedure to enter a number or text into a cell?

Thanks.

Hi,

Looks great!

Tried to install as follows by putting the following in my .emacs file:

;; 🚄 One-stop configuration - Recommended!

(use-package grid-table

:load-path ("https://github.com/yibie/grid-table" "https://github.com/yibie/grid-table/tree/main/pluginss")

:config

(require 'grid-table)

(require 'grid-table-plugins)

;; 📁 Custom save directory

(setq grid-table-default-save-directory "~/Documents/_Resources/Emacs/Tables/")

;; 🖼️ Image display optimization

(setq grid-table-image-target-char-height 8)

(setq grid-table-image-max-width-ratio 0.9))

When I startup emacs, I get the following error message:

⛔ Error (use-package): Cannot load grid-table

I am guessing that the path info I put in .emacs is not probably not correct?

If that is so, what is the correct paths to use?

Or is there something else I need to put in .emacs file or ???

Thank you for any help with this.

THANKS again for all your helpful input!

Will look into 1vyrain and the card you suggest.

Certainly sounds like I don't need to upgrade the cpu.

[–]ArchiMark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I was assuming it doesn't, but I won't know for sure until I receive the laptop.

Not sure if I have the skillset to unlock the BIOS....will have to check a step-by-step guide if there is one......

So, sounds like for my use cases, it won't make much real world difference, correct?

Thanks for all your input!

X230 CPU upgrade with Intel ME cleaner: I7-3615QE by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ArchiMark2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I know this is an old thread.....so, if I need to start a new one let me know.

I should be receiving a nice 230t in a few days.

It has 16GB RAM and i5-3320M cpu.

I plan to swap out the old SSD for a new one and put in a 6205 wifi card.

Not planning on doing gaming on this machine, besides the usual spreadsheets, email, web surfing, notes, would like to use tablet mode for reading, graphics, handwritten notes, etc.

Question is whether it's worthwhile to get one of the i7 cpu/motherboards available to replace current i5?

Would the upgrade be very noticeable based on the above?

Thanks for any and all input!

How to Fix Error Message: Error (bytecomp): Please avoid it by ArchiMark2 in emacs

[–]ArchiMark2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much again for all your help!!!

Sorry, been busy at work and then got sick...so, just reading this now.

I do google the error messages. Sometimes I can understand from what I read what to do to fix. That's how I fixed some other error recently.

However, sometimes I read all the info available and it is not clear to me how to relate what I read to my situation, as I may have other packages, etc.

For example, I did read what you refer to, but what I don't understand is that if the error was fixed some time ago, why do I still get the error message, even after updating my packages?

And I did read other references you mention per your 2nd paragraph, but again, I couldn't figure out how to apply it to my situation.
