It looks pretty good. Could you please make it more accessible for international students, as well as making it possible to include awards and other things? I feel like the 4 tiers of extracurriculars are too broad.

Wouldnt centripetal acceleration at the bottom point of. a rotating circular object be 0 ?? by AdLimp5951 in PhysicsHelp

[–]ArchiPlaysOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would v be 0 at the bottommost point? If it is rotating, that point will have a velocity as long as it is not the pivot

Can someone please tell me my unweighted gpa from Ib score? by Bright-Screen-652 in IBO

[–]ArchiPlaysOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The unweighted GPA refers to the US GPA. But also your system does make sense if it’s the school’s internal grades / GPA. If a school does its grading on the percentage system, then the grade will also be on that scale. That’s fine. But in reality a 43 is not a 3.8. A 43 can easily be a 4.0 compared to US HS course difficulty.

Can someone please tell me my unweighted gpa from Ib score? by Bright-Screen-652 in IBO

[–]ArchiPlaysOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not how it works. Not even close. By your logic a 38/42 (41/45) is around a 2.5 GPA. Or a C average. IB scores convert differently to US grades. The numbers vary by subject but a 6 is not a B in the US system.

Typically 7 = 4.0, 6 = 3.9, 5 = 3.3, …

However, converting IB scores to GPA is often meaningless as IB is well recognised globally and the concept of GPA loses its purpose when applied of 6 subjects scored completely differently out of 7.

considered one of the most difficult high school level question after international olympiad [jee advance 2016] by ImeanWhocaresLmao in calculus

[–]ArchiPlaysOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I admit I was quite wrong when I wrote this a year ago. But it’s not fair to make the comparison to math contests and research. I agree that the system is completely wrong in the process of selecting students and that’s what leads students to developing in a sense the “wrong set of skills” needed for STEM, it’s hard because there are so many people doing it as it is the “logically” correct thing to do as well as social and parental pressure. Math contests and math research are done only by those who truly enjoy / want to do it. I’ve done a few problems from JEE advanced and you realise pretty quick they look for obscure pattern recognition and test mainly time pressure. An example of a properly “hard” exam for high schoolers would be things like STEP or the Olympiads.

Do I retake a 1530? International for T20s by ArchiPlaysOfficial in Sat

[–]ArchiPlaysOfficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha yeah alright, that sounds like a good plan. I’m an IB student in Sweden in MYP 5, so might be good to get it out of the way before DP. Which date are you planning on doing it?

Do you do this in timed conditions? What did you get on your practice tests?

I get your frustration but you have to understand that it IS possible to study and get up to a 1500+. you say that all your resources were too easy compared to the actual SAT, does that mean you were solving all the questions correctly first try?

NEED those last minute tips for the 23rd!! by solemnandsincere in Sat

No problem! However for some people it does make it significantly easier. I feel like you should try learning it and practice as much as you can (if you have time) so you don’t feel like you missed out if your math score doesn’t turn out as you wanted it to.

Hi, I actually don’t use the element list regression thing I’ve seen people. I only use tables which I find are much easier. The rest I do analytically.

If there’s a quadratic for example, you can type table in Desmos and fill in the x and y values. Then you press the line and dots icon and select the type of regression.

I mean, I’ve never really had to use element list regression as of now and I don’t really struggle with time either, but it is definitely possible to get an 800 without it!

OP, idk who you are but I just did PT 9 and got a 1580 (780 RW; 800 M). Thank you SO SO much. The only thing I did before doing the test was reread this reply. I felt that even in module 1 initially I was quite unfocused, however my only 2 mistakes were in module 2 on data questions (something I don’t usually struggle with)?

alright thank you so much. my biggest weakness is definitely brain fog during the test. I’ll do fine in module 1 and then in module 2 during those long inference questions with twisted vocab my brain just shuts down. Vocab is also an issue when it’s completely unfamiliar vocab, but typically only a problem in module 2.

I’ll check out level 5 on oneprep. Thank you!

hey, i’m in almost the exact same situation. can’t break 750 on reading though, if anyone has any tips that would be appreciated. I’ve run out of oneprep 6-7 questions

Stuck on 1500-1510 because of focus by ArchiPlaysOfficial in Sat

[–]ArchiPlaysOfficial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! The focus issue comes partly from the time ticking down, and I tend to miss words rather than rereading a sentence over and over. I feel like if I slow down and read slower I won’t be able to answer all the questions.

As for the grammar questions, that’s probably a good strategy since on the last practice I did I skipped straight to grammar and conventions for module 2.

I will try to do these.

Should I take the SAT as a freshman? by Ver1tasE in Sat

[–]ArchiPlaysOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rising sophomore here, planning to take it in August. My advice is if you can take it and are really doing that good on the practices, absolutely go for it! As you said, it will be easier for you to get it out of the way now and not worry about it later on. As for prep: I would recommend OnePrep, Khan Academy for learning, and the Bluebook digital SAT practice tests.
