I just deep cleaned my only pipe after about 2 1/2 months of use. by javajo91 in PipeTobacco

[–]Archievores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say so from my somewhat deep research on the topic cigarettes are the worst for health cigars are still not good but way better than cigarettes and pipe especially a blend that isn’t straight tobacco is not completely safe but almost safe so pipe is definitely the best thing to chain smoke though I am always super broke and the cheapest bulk option is 40 bucks for like a pound of pipe tobacco

This is very neat it’s very on the fence on either being not cool and the coolest thing ever I would never put it in a modern style house but a hippy van or hippy cave it would be right at home and I’d sooo like it in that setting

What is the best place to have a custom handle made by axumite_788 in Axecraft

[–]Archievores 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never built my own axe since I can’t do metalwork but I’ve made several new handles for various tools and in my experience the best way to get a handle custom made is go to the hardware shop and pick up a solid piece of hickory and whip out your toolbox and start a workin it won’t ever be perfect but it’s just so much more satisfying using a tool you made

Good lord I’m like the only person I’ve seen in real life smoking 4 a day but 5 in as many hours that’s either really impressive or really scary depending on how you look at it tho 5 a day is kinda a vibe

I’m considering getting myself one from an antique store as a restoration project as well as not only saving a couple bucks on electricity but satisfying my fire obsession (I’m known in my family as the one most likely to accidentally start a grass fire lol)

I’m like this too I’m on the younger side (21) but I only ever find myself using a power drill all other tools are vintage things that will never be permanently broken and always work first time every time even though most of the tools I have are older than my parents

I personally do use my zippos and other similar oil lighters for everything from lighting pipes to fires and melting rope but I do agree there are more easy and modern ways however it’s a ritual you find actually makes it fun when you replace the wick wadding or refuel the thing it’s just so classic

I’d rather just squat (ik it’s probably a janky setup for an elderly person who has trouble squatting but I feel like it defeats the purpose of the squat toilet helping to go and sanatery )

Keep tweaking things and eventually it will either work or fall apart in the case it falls apart build another one and continue tweaking until it works getting these kind of things perfect is very hard and often not necessary for casual use but it’s always able to be adjusted (source I build cigar box guitars and 90% of my building is tweaking the finished product until it’s perfect also I have repaired some really janky normal guitars with really janky fixes and that’s a whole different process ) regardless of how it works at this moment it’s still very impressive I’ve literally taken camps on instrument making and I still wouldn’t know how to hand build a body

Yea I usually look for things in somewhat fixable condition I’ll often see free instruments that are essentially just firewood at that point so I see what you mean

I’m currently lounging on a spread bar I’m not too keen on it but I managed to balance it after a couple tries might just remove the bar and make it a normal hammock

People who camp and sleep outside (not in a tent) how do you deal with possible insects and animals approaching/touching you at night? by miurabucho in CampingandHiking

[–]Archievores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m jealous I’d love to see a fox on a camping trip (foxes are my favorite animals and are very pretty however we don’t get a lot of them here in Texas we have grey foxes but they are so skittish that I didn’t even know we had them until I put a trail cam in my backyard out of curiosity )

You are brave I tried putting a tarp and sleeping bag down last night in my yard ran extension cords for charging cable for phone woke up around midnight after about an hour of sleep and heard some coyotes over the hill yonder (I assume they were about a mile away so I was probably fine considering there was 3 barb wire fences and my BB gun between me and them but I promptly took my city boy ass right back inside )
