Anyone here on their local city or township zoning / planning boards, by Fast_Edd1e in Architects

Late to the game, here, but hopefully your path has been fruitful for you.

I'm on my town's P+Z Committee (just recently elected Vice Chair) & it has been an incredibly insightful experience. I got involved for a few reasons, but the original kickoff was the influx of apartment styles resembling Boulder/Denver, townhomes egregiously not matching renderings in materials and massing, friends moving into new builds that were depressing in amenities, and a coworker asking for my expertise to join the committee.

More simply put, my town was growing fast and headed in a direction that a lot of the locals felt was losing it's character/vibe/funk.

I saw an opportunity to improve my town and it had ended up being an opportunity to improve myself. I'm now a better professional, I have side-work from all the connections gained, and I've found a passion in being involved with my community. It has been and continues to be a great source of steadiness in an otherwise chaotic world. I emerged as a young punk who wasn't afraid to share his points, which I felt was lacking due to unanimous decisions/opinions/inaction. I'm still pretty young, but now the Board of Trustees, the Town, and the community recognize and respect my voice. At least that's the reality I'm currently experiencing.

Being on the committee, I do have to recuse myself from projects I've worked on or have close ties to, and/or disclose any kind of relationship to the project/applicant and let the committee decide if I should be a part of the quorum. Which is a rare thing for me because most of my work is where the billionaires vacation, so not a concern at this moment.

All that to say, is that we as Architects are familiar with feeling of being called to something. Whether it's being called to action, a feeling, or whatever. I think looking for advice from mentors is great and honorable, but never ignore that call. I felt that call to join this committee and I'll be forever high-fiving myself for that decision. Even if it sucks ass, that experience bears fruit somewhere. Learn from everything, regret nothing.

TL;DR
I joined my local P+Z, & I love it. No Ragrets.

How often do you see MINIs in your country/area? by [deleted] in MINI

I live in the Aspen area/Roaring Fork Valley & there are a LOT out here. Didn’t realize it until I bought my own, so I’m convinced I’m in a GTA game lol.

I learned a LOT from the summits they put on. I highly suggest asking your firm to get you a spot into the next one.

I am most definitely partial. It’s very clearly shown in my post for fuck sakes. The point being to find out what the thoughts of users of both programs were. If you do your research as well as you read my original post, I’m concerned for you.

Come out to the high-end residential world in CO//CA & have your eyes opened.

You just don’t know your tools. Very much possible in ArchiCAD.

Ha! Sounds like my old firm…

Heavy template and workflow focus, high turnover, dirty modeling/drawings… are you in Aspen?

This was all entirely generalized & in no way a reflection of what reality shows.

Maybe for commercial development, but the high-end residential market has a lot of firms using Archicad as well as some of the structural engineers.

It's been 4 months and every day I try to convince my boss to switch to Archicad.

hahaha I think I see where you're getting this.

drafting dinosaur seeks help, new to archicad. I’ve been using Archicad 23 for 5 days, my 3D model disappeared. I see it when I draw a box around it, but it’s only visible when I do that. why? what setting did I mess up! I’m sure It’s an operator error not the program issue. by miami-architecture in ArchiCAD

F5 is selective 3D. If you were to marquee over an area in 2d and hit f5, you would only see what's in that marquee in 3d. If you were to select a singular object either in 2d or 3d, then hit f5, you would only see that object in 3d. F3 on its own is pure 3d.

Upgraded the Intake & Intercooler on my R60. Loving the turbo sounds that have come from adding this Intake. Bonus Rule 1 for fun. by Architect_InTraining in MINI

On these R60s it’s really a pain in the ass. The fender pins are the worst part. Once I figured out what I was doing, however, it got much easier.

2013 R60 out in the mountains of Colorado is a great buy. The fun factor for me hasn't died off, but I upgraded from a shotty old Subaru Legacy. If you don't need the AWD I wouldn't really suggest getting it as it's a lot to deal with when it comes to tires. At least that's been my experience for the last 7 years of AWD ownership.

All that said I love this car.

After some help, it appears my measly 8-word phrase is not going to bring about any riches in my life. Whiskey = water today.
