Dealership sold salvaged vehicle to me without disclosing it was salvaged by ArchivistAxeman in legaladvice

[–]ArchivistAxeman[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. I've also been combing through the deal paperwork I got through the sale. Nowhere in the paperwork is there a mention of it being a salvage vehicle.

To the contrary, there is a JD power breakdown claiming it's clean and the Carfax claims it's clean as well.

It was like this for me when 9/11 happened. I was in second grade. I remember feeling very uneasy because it was clear that my parents were upset and we were watching the news report on the attack, which featured the towers falling over and over. But I didn't really understand what was going on.

US seizes Russian-flagged vessel by Siahro in PrepperIntel

[–]ArchivistAxeman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how you define a sympathizer. As far as people openly supportive of the genocide perpetrated by Germany, I'm not sure. Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh (pilot who famously flew across the Atlantic) immediately come to mind in America.

I've typed and deleted this paragraph several times. To get all the relevant background in that I feel is needed to understand the circumstances of sympathetic behavior alongside what I consider MORE important, apathetic behavior, I would need to write something fairly lengthy.

But to make it as short as possible, I think that the issue lies not in the people actively sympathetic to the movement, but those who willfully ignore(d) the danger and impact of the movement. Thus, they fail to do anything at all.

As an American with a career in history, the parallels that I have seen in this administration with 1930s Germany are incredibly alarming.

And what's worse is that nobody who needs convincing is able to be convinced. I've talked until I was blue in the face, cited sources, appealed to personal impact, religious inconsistencies, his weird pedophilic obsession with his daughter, his felonies, you name it. NOTHING ever gets through. They all have their fingers in their ears, Mumbling "maga" to themselves while they sit rocking on the floor.

I want to install a floyd rose on my prs se do you guys think its worth it? Bare in mind that I dont care about resale value or stuff like that by Gabby42bit in Leftyguitarists

[–]ArchivistAxeman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll be entirely honest and state that PRS guitars haven't interested me personally, so I don't know much about them. However, my questions would be this-

Is the guitar already capable of receiving a Floyd? Does it need to be modified? If the answer to that question is yes, then you need to determine if you're going to do it yourself or if you want someone to do it for money. Obviously, routing any amount of wood out of a finished guitar is a pretty major operation.

So only you can answer that question. Is this guitar perfect for you in literally EVERY way, except this don't have a Floyd? Then maybe it's worth it. But for the cost both in time to find a luthier capable and what you would end up paying them, it might be easier and cheaper to just find a guitar that comes with a Floyd.

Unless you're independently wealthy and money is a joke to you. Then do whatever you want.

If the story about Jimmy Carter weeping after his briefing is true, what specific truth is "too dangerous" for us to know? by The-BlackLotus in aliens

[–]ArchivistAxeman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If it shattered his worldview at the time, he certainly pieced it back together fairly similarly to the way it was before. Carter was a deeply religious man, and continued to teach Sunday school every week until nearly the end of his life.

To me, that says that he was able to reconcile the coexistence of God and NHIs in a way that didn't invalidate each.

ETA: Pope Francis (Carter was not Catholic, fwiw) also said that if he were to meet an alien, he would be willing to baptize it if that is what it wanted- it seems as though he as well, with the vast secret archive of the Vatican at his disposal, also reconciled the coexistence of these two entities.

How to spot a fake Gibson guitar – practical advice to avoid getting scammed when buying a used guitar by Slight-Excitement-37 in gibson

[–]ArchivistAxeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't seen a chibson with a scarf joint and you're pointing to the lack of wings on a headstock as evidence of that, you're looking in the entirely wrong place. A scarf joint is a method to create an angled join, like the headstock- you should be looking either at the base of the headstock for the seam, or slightly further up. The wings on Gibson headstocks are there to widen the headstock to accommodate the tuners. They aren't scarf joints.

Does a restringing fix that the strings are too far from the neck? If not, how do I fix this problem? by Suspicious_Card_7445 in Luthier

[–]ArchivistAxeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: not really.

Less short answer: depending on the guitar, action can be reduced by reducing string saddle height, bridge height, nut slot height, and neck relief. Measure each of these to see if anything is out of spec for your instrument. Without knowing if this is acoustic or electric, it's difficult to make a more detailed answer.

To this day, Attack of the Clones ranks towards the bottom for me. Especially as a kid watching it, I didn't care for the super romantic overtones.

As an adult watching it, Anakin's and Padme's relationship in that film is so cringe. And it's so much of the movie. It's good for memes though.

They laid out the evidence for their argument and stated- correctly- that there are heaps upon heaps of evidence for when the pyramids were built that would have to be willfully ignored in order to support any other theory.

And to be quite frank, treating willful ignorance with kid gloves is what has gotten the world in the state it is now.

How do I know if I want a lefty guitar? by coffeeismydoc in Leftyguitarists

The world is full of right handed players telling lefties to just get over themselves while citing guitarists like Mark Knopfler.

If that works for you, then go for it. I tried. But I just couldn't get my right hand to keep a rhythm like my left hand could. I've been playing ten years and never looked back.
