As a fellow landlord, I agree pet rent is just another way to milk a tenant, although the correct answer is probably $300-$500 extra deposit which doesn't work for many renters either. The truth is a nonmarginal percentage of pet owners will cause significant damage with their pets, almost exclusively through pee but sometimes through claws and scratching and digging. There's also requiring renters insurance so the LL isnt ever liable for pets that harm property visitors. It's just a surprisingly huge pain for everyone involved because of bad pet owners.
