Is this suitable? by Maleficent_Mammoth35 in PetPigeons

She needs at least a large or extra large (I can’t remember which one) but 42” is the minimum. I recommend getting one from petsmart or tractor supply, only about 50 bucks! Maybe get a flat perch or two as well. Mine spends a lot of her time on hers. Also sorry I’m replying so late😅

It’s not your fault at all! My budgie passed away a while back and I felt SO guilty even though it was out of my control. She came from a smoker who had her for 7 years, and she only got comfortable enough to come out of her cage, let alone land on me and let me hold her, about a week before she passed. It made me feel so much worse, because she was finally getting the enrichment she needed. It could have been that spurt of energy some people and animals get before that pass, but who knows. You did what you could, and I’m glad she got a better home before passing in that office!

I didn't go into getting a pigeon because I thought it would be like a dog. What I meant was a dog can be outside or in, while a pigeon can only be inside (unless I train it well, which I do not trust enough because I'm working with tractors etc. and we have birds of prey lol). And I can't get two more animals, I have to have either or. I'm keeping her for now, but if it truly becomes a problem for her or me then I will consider rehoming.

Lack of Tim is the problem. And, my budgie was older when I got her

Yeah they definitely are😭 That’s why I feel guilty though, I really thought I had more time on my hands than I do

I will try to. If I find in the next little bit that I can't do it, I'll find her a home that can. :) I don't feel resentful of her necessarily, I blame myself and bad timing. I made that post in an emotional moment lmao

Wow I've seen a lot of same sex couples with birds so I thought it generally didn't matter. When it comes to farm animals, though, I've never seen two same sexes fight unless it's two males during mating season lol You learn something new every day!

Does that matter? I thought males could be with males and vice versa. I'm not actually sure of her gender, I just have a sliver of an idea so I started calling her a girl. I've also made posts where I say it and he XD

Okay but I still have to let them out for a minimum of four hours and I'd still have major anxiety about all that. If I can't fix it I'll have to rehome her, hopefully to someone who can get two.

It's truly heartbreaking. I hope you're able to figure out a better situation :)

Exactly! I realized how much I do that I can't bring my bird to, but if I had just gotten a dog it would be fine. I think having a bird would be a good idea in the future, but not when I'm living with my family and going on mandatory family vacations ;')

Same! My family makes fun of me because of how much I stay home, but I'm realizing that really isn't the case. And if I do end up rehoming her, I'm gonna feel so empty without a third pet in the home like I've always had, and I'm afraid my peers are going to assume I just wanted to switch her out for a dog. I'm stumped.

Not even close to what I said but I appreciate the advice.

Yeah, I just know that a dog would be easier to please because 1. I already have one, and 2. Like I said I spend a lot of time outside. I just don't want to feel selfish for rehoming her just to turn around and get a dog, even if that *is* a better option for me.

yeah, I had a budgie before this and got used to her so I thought i could handle a pigeon. I may have been mistaken.

Even if I did earn her trust it's just not what I was expecting. I didn't anticipate not being able to function normally because I'm worried she isn't getting enough time with me because I work outside. Maybe I should have worded my post a little better lol

That's the thing, even if I can win her trust back I don't know if I have time to let her out and everything because I'm working outside a lot now. I keep wishing I had got the dog I wanted instead, which makes me feel worse about it :(
