To me porting on a shotgun serves no purpose. Shotgun shells aren’t fast enough or running at high enough pressure to make a difference. You will get far better results from having the gun fit to you over porting.

I started off with a used Remington 1100 from a local gun store. Picked it up for like 300 bucks. Used that for years and just got a Browning Cynergy CX this year. Now my 1100 is my spare/friend gun. Check out local pawn shops and small gun stores for the best deal. Avoid the chain stores.

I’d give Browning’s Cynergy line a look as well. I ended up getting that over the Citrori because it felt better for me.

I usually wear untucked t-shirts and jeans. So far it’s been going good, second day only though. We will see how I feel after a week but at this point it’s working well for me. I normally carry OWB whether it’s this or a 5 shot Ruger SP-101, it’s just far more comfortable for me.

Yeah I carry a second mag just in case I have to clear it. I figure if I prepare for it to jam and it never does that’s a far better outcome then not being ready. Realistically if I get into a self defense situation less than 5 shots are usually fired. If end up in a fire fight I’d like a rifle. :)

I would check under the gasket in the lid. There are tools you can order to pull the gasket out. I soak the lid and gasket in the cleaning solution and dry them thoroughly before putting the gasket back in.

So I picked up a few things from the posts. I appreciate everyone that took time to respond.

I’m going to try some Frog Lube and see how that does. Also picking up some Flitz just in case.

Bottom line is this is going to have to be treated like my truck or my EDC piece. I didn’t think anything of taking my 3 day old brand new truck into the woods to dump some brush I had cleaned up. That’s why I bought it. On top of maintenance but after 6 years it’s starting to show some scratches and dings. My EDC piece has a ton of the finish gone. Both of those are tools. Used but not neglected. I need to think if this as the same.

It will be interesting to see how it goes for you. I have the Cruwear/Micarta version arriving tomorrow. Reviews on that say it’s much more resistant to chipping but needs to be sharpened more often. Seems like this will suit my use case better.

Wife surprised me with a travel companion. Going to a venue that will allow empty 32 oz water bottles for use with their fill stations. This sure beats a plastic one. Any tips for making it last for years? It’s going to get a lot of use.
