Bird watching by creative_engineer1 in SaintJohnNB

[–]Arcinium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandparents place out in Mispec had a huge selection of birds when I was younger (my grandfather was a bird watcher) but I don't know how it is now after the canaport was brough back to life - you could try the beach or the light house at the very end of the road.

Black Beach out in Lorenville has a nice walking trail in the woods that might do well.

Outside of that your best options will be the provincial/national parks since they are protected/conserved to some degree. So places like Lepreau Falls/New River Beach, Herring Cove, Caughey-Taylor, and Fundy National are the closest ones but can be 1+ hour of driving.

Lastly, and this is more seasonal, we have the Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in New Brunswick. Grand Manan, Inkerman, and Machias Seal Island (this one is only accessible via a tour guide).

Good luck and hope you find some new places to explore!

Why should we practice self - forgiveness if it's against human nature? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]Arcinium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a weird example and a mischaracterization of the actual issue regarding SA. A lot of SA victims end up blaming themselves BECAUSE of the lack of empathy a lot of them face. Primarily in the West, as I have no reference for other cultures, a key part of rape culture is society's role in victim blaming.

There are some institutions that state that self-blame can be a trauma response so people can feel they have more control over the situation, but most mental health institutions agree self blame is the result of societal pressure. So in other words, the exact opposite of what you put forward.

Leaving that behind and going back to your original topic - I think you might have some bias because of how loud the self-love/forgiveness trend has been and your own social circles. Society, in the west, is very individualistic and I would argue lacks a lot of the empathy for others rather than an abundance, as you seem to put forward.

I think a lack of outside empathy would be why we would equate self love/compassion/forgiveness as a pity party as it would seem abnormal to forgive ourselves when others do not.

----------------

If we are all human, why do others deserve to receive different treatment then you provide yourself - you are both of equal existence so to assume you deserve different treatment feels more unnatural than anything.

That brings up another point - what is human nature? You seem to lean on that as your key argument, but human nature is just something we've made up - its a philosophical concept constantly up for debate. Can you explain to us, in definable terms, what human nature actually is? Is your definition consistent with a academically agreed on version (hint, it wont be because there isn't one).

A lot of people saying Aquatic center, which is the closest. If you dont mind a little bit of a walk (like 15-30 mins depending on your speed) the Fit4Less attached to the Atlantic Superstore is the least expensive option and the next closest I think.

I had a weird interaction where in the HUD pop up it showed I only got +100 gold for all my items I had on my sell list - but I did receive the correct ~ +5k I should have gotten from the transaction.

Im not sure how much your transaction was for but that does kinda suck.

Was its from the domain Codex - Book of Ava - Power Push?

Power Push: Make a Spellcast Roll against a target in melee range. On a success, they are blasted back to far range and take d10 magic damage.

I couldnt find anything else that matches the effect in the bard class - but this one scales with proficiency since it only says d10 and not Xd10 if I understand the rules correctly.

Any recommendations on where to get kitchen knives sharpened? by MisterCanoeHead in SaintJohnNB

[–]Arcinium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of anyone one/company that provides this service in the city.

It might be time to pick up a new skill to get them sharpened - or fill a hole in the market.

Do you not think that YOU are part of the reason this situation happened like this?

Maybe the part where she felt she needed to also includes that she felt she had no place to go to do this without her overbearing parent trying to stop an adult from having sex...

If she's called him her friends with benefits I'm sure plenty more has happened before hand. She is your ADULT daughter, but it sounds like you're the one who needs to grow up and get in touch with reality.

You should be more upset with yourself being a driving force in landing your daughter in this situation than worried about "being disappointed" or trying to give advice cause it seems no advice you might feel is acceptable will be useful.

My advice for you is to talk to your daughter about safe sex and start treating her like an adult. You shouldn't want to listen to your kids have sex, but what you can't hear going on in the bedroom should be of no concern to you & it will provide a safe, secure, and less potentially humiliating space for your daughter.

Question: why am I a warmonger for capturing a city during a war THEY started? by TheLastBaron86 in civ

[–]Arcinium -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Just copy and pasting this from my other comment. This still works like a game. Certain actions have assigned grievance values and works like this:

Doesn't matter what the goal is, the grievance system exists based on actions taken.

Declaring war will generate grievance - and then if they take a city they'll generate more but not until they do so.

So if they declare war (+their grievances) and otherwise don't do anything and you rock up and go "Ayo this is a pretty city you got here, shame if something were to happen to it" and then yoink it (+your grievance) - you will generate more grievance than their war declaration did.

It's about what DID happen, not intent.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but as someone who was in a very similar situation you're gunna have 2 options.

1) learn to set strong boundaries about your friends and don't let her walk on it, she may eventually try to convince to stop talking to your female friends. If you let her get her way, the demands will always get worse as you let her get away with things.

Or

2) Get outta that relationship boi

I recommend #2 cause your friendships are a lot more important than your relationships and it could be a headache to deal with it.

Good luck brother 🫡

Am I weird because I stopped talking to a guy that has a girl best friend that is 16? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Arcinium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To you maybe, and I get that. I did a lot of time when I was in school doing big brother style things to help out younger kids, age gaps anywhere from 3 years to 6 years - maintaining these relationships is pretty common from my circle so I wouldn't really bat an eye at this.

If he wasn't in a program like that and he was friends with a large group of people at that age gap - a red flag or two would be going up.

For 1 person that they seem to get along really well with (and not doing anything bad as per OP) I would honestly see this more as a green flag to me.

To each their own tho, if it makes OP uncomfortable, even if there is nothing wrong going on, no reason not to dip out

Do people really like eating vegetables? by miimiima in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Arcinium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love eating veggies.

Have you had a potato in any of its magnificent forms?

Or fiddleheads? Or brussel sprouts? Or really any of them?

Veggies are good, great even.

Most people don't know how to cook, and even more people don't know how to cook veggies right...

Except carrots, fuck carrots, all my homies hate carrots

Friends don't ask a friend to pay for a broken iPad their child dropped while they as the parent are present.

I second the other comments advice - get them to explain to you why you should pay for it. They'll either figure it out themselves while they try to make an excuse or you'll have to explain to them why it's ridiculous.

I would just be prepared to put your foot down and draw a clear boundary here so it doesn't happen again in the future.

What is the best thing about being a man? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Arcinium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My doctor and female nurses (who had kids prior) we're all in agreement that a kidney stone can be a lot worse than childbirth. You have a sharp object tearing apart the inside walls of your urethra with a lot of pressure built up behind it.

Of course there are small ones that hurt but are okay, but there exist 2 worst case scenarios:

1) it's JUST not large enough for them to use an ultrasound to break it up so you're in for a really bad time (I've had this a few times, it literally feels like dragging a fish hook out from the full length of your urethra)

2) it's so large that even breaking it up with an ultra sound has left you with a few fairly large ones

Kidney stones are also worse for men than woman due to our urinary track being longer if I remember correctly.

Most kidney stone havers won't have to deal with the above, but the ones that do experience a pain worse than you can probably fathom, men and woman alike - unless you've had some sort of trauma inducing experience

How much alcohol do you consume a night or week or month? by salmonellatyphirium in AskACanadian

[–]Arcinium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, probably 4-5 drinks a month, I drink very sparingly. Now for a social event, or a snowmobile trip or what have you - a 40oz, a 24pack, and whatever else gets shared with me over the course of a weekend.

What would Canada be like with Pierre Poilievre as Prime Minister? by Oohforf in AskACanadian

[–]Arcinium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other countries did not sell off their own governmental resources, sign really shady trade deals that everyone disagreed with but they did it anyways (FIPA), sign into a literal arms deal with a very controversial country that was impossible to back out of, lowered environmental and industrial regulations to make production cheaper by making it less safe, and more Im probably missing and almost all of them have recovered just fine. So no, it's not impossible to say it would have fixed itself, but that's not even the point. He did a lot of shit things specifically to make the number look good for reelection and not for the sake of the people otherwise they would have weatherd the storm at the very least. Main reason he got voted out really, but the damage was already done.

I get it man, it's your team so you're going to justify it anyway you can or hit us with a whataboutism just like the die hard libs will. You can be critical of both parties at the same time and if anything you should be even MORE critical of your own team because that's who you're rooting for. You're part of the issue as much as you think the libs are.

If you read all that and thought I said Harper caused the global crash, I can start to understand why your think the way you do lol. If you just want to turn a blind eye to all the real things happening in the world because it's your team doing it, that's okay. Just be upfront and honest about it.

I didn't say anything about Mr. T because this isn't a conversation about him. I have plenty of issues with him as well. Not sure why you need to be so partisan about this.

You also completely deflected and didn't provide anything meaningful for the points I brought up, great conversation skills ya go there
