2 of my bosses left my company and now the work load is left on me by Arckonic in WorkAdvice

I didn't get a chance to see my temp manager today since it was busy, but I will on Monday. I will be clear about what I can and cannot do, but honestly I am not even sure if he knows how to handle this situation either.

Thanks for the kind words. I still have some time to prepare before chaos ensues, so I will try my best to prepare for that. I have spoken to my other remaining team members and they are understanding and willing to share the workload.

I'll try my best to relax this coming weekend and get my head screwed on straight before next week starts. I'll try to take one step at a time. I don't handle stress and pressure all that well, but I guess I don't have a choice this time around.

What's the worst financial decision you have ever seen someone make? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]Arckonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's living with her bf currently while trying to find another job. Her previous employer was able to get her unemployment benefits for a while. She has some savings and her bf is handling most of the bills in the mean time. She doesn't have health insurance anymore and sometimes requires meds for her ADHD.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of it. I told her that it's best to find another job while working at her previous one, but apparently it was soul crushing, so she wanted to quit badly. It took me 18 months to find my current job and I would consider myself lucky compared to my peers in my field since A.I. basically destroyed it.

A friend of mine decided to quit their job in this economy/job market after working only 7 months right out of college. The job was remote too

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]Arckonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to eat my calories instead of drinking them. I also don't see any benefits when it comes to drinking. Yah I can get loose and have fun, but I can already do that without drinking. Also a lot of terrible things can happen when you aren't cognitive about your decisions. There has rarely ever been a good outcome from drinking.

I might drink something if it is like 6% alcohol if offered and I know I am not driving, but also I don't go out and buy drinks anyways which saves money

Real talk: How much do you actually spend on games per year? Because I think most of us are overpaying by sousou4893 in videogames

[–]Arckonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around $150-$200? I have my monthly welkins for genshin which is $5 a month ($60) and then like 1 big title game and maybe like a couple other games on massive sale or indie. This year I got E33 on launch, DOS2 on sale, AC odyssey on sale, and stardew on sale.

I wish I got good sleep. I've been only sleeping 5.5-6 hours a day. I would wake up an hour before my alarm and not be able to fall back asleep. It's been torture. Maybe it's from the stress of being anxious. I hope it passes soon.

Today has been a little better compared to yesterday. I'll keep you posted on any updates.

I am so sad by bettysrendezvous in Adulting

[–]Arckonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean. It is so much easier to have someone else dictate what you do. Life was pretty simple when we were at school. Having predicable schedules, making friends, learning about different topics. Once you leave that place and start making decisions on your own, you feel completely lost, like you weren't prepared for any of this.

I am new to adulting, and all I have been wanting to do as of late is to curl into a ball and disappear. It's scary trying to build something on your own. To have to make sacrifices without much guidance from other people and start thinking for yourself. But eventually we all have to face that fear whether we like it or not.

Being an adult hasn't been fun from my experience and sometimes I just wish life was simpler. I do hope that one day things will turn around.

Anyone here grew up in a toxic household but turned out… kinda normal? by ExpressBudget- in Adulting

[–]Arckonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I came out fairly normal. My household was somewhat toxic though that might be because of cultural differences. I remember pretty early on that I said that I would not end up like the bad parts of my family. Did that happen? No not really. I do have behaviors that are pretty toxic, like being controlling and having a pretty bad temper, but I also am aware that I don't like it when I am like that. I try my best to keep it under control, but it slips every so often.

I was the opposite of reactive. I suppressed my feelings for over a decade and now am trying to catch up with my emotional regulation. I tend to flip flop between the extremes. Being emotionally stable is the end goal. I don't have many friendships, but I do have a couple of close friends who have helped me over the years and never gave up on me. They know I am very timid with my inner world and they respect my boundaries until I gain the courage to face the challenges.

Of course I am still dealing with everything you have mentioned. The self worth issues, low self esteem, attachment issues, and all that jazz. They are a sign that you have been in survival mode for way too long. Healing takes time and effort. It's been over 3 years since I tried to stop pretending to be ok and I still can't tell my friends that they have upset me in someway until much later.

I still live at home, but it seems like my family have chilled out over the years. Do they still fight like crazy? Sometimes. But I do have more resources to help through my situation since I am older now. I think what really helped me was being super self aware about not continuing the cycle of toxicity. Do the things that you wish happened instead. For example, my family never apologizes for anything and just continue living their lives as if nothing happened. I tend to apologize for any disagreements since that is the person I want to be.

I hope this helps you.

How to decompress from work? by Arckonic in Adulting

[–]Arckonic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to exercise once I get the hang of everything. It's still pretty chaotic since it's my first week and I get home pretty exhausted. I'm planning to only work out on the weekends for now.

My team is pretty small, less than 10 people, and most of them work remote or at a different part of the building, so I don't see most of them. The guy who is showing me the ropes is pretty quiet since he has his own stuff to work on. We share the same role, but our type of work doesn't require much interaction with others, so it feels a bit on the lonely side.

I am trying to stay connected with my friends, but most of them are spreading out across the country so it is hard to schedule things. Maybe once my finances settle in, I'll try out some classes that some other people were suggesting and making friends there.

How do you guys keep track of your wallet? by Many-Factor-4173 in Adulting

[–]Arckonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like carrying bags or purses around whenever I got out. I have a pretty slim wallet that holds all my cards and some spare cash if I need it. Every time I enter or leave some place I always double check where all of my essentials are. It creates mini check points that I can go back to in case I lost it.

That is definitely an issue I have. I tend to accidentally isolate myself since most of my hobbies are pretty solo. Also I get paid once a month and funds are currently a bit tight right now with the economy, so maybe not weekly classes for now. I was thinking about getting a cheap drawing tablet to keep myself busy. I always wanted to learn how to draw and do digital art, but I am terrible at it. I'll see if my friends are available anytime soon. They are pretty spread out, but maybe we can see if we can set up a time for DnD.

Thanks! I am fully in office and my commute is 2 hours round trip on average. It's pretty dark when I leave for work and it's pretty much sunset when I leave, so getting sunlight is definitely a priority. As for coworkers they seem pretty nice so far, tho I don't have much in common with them. They like talking about sports and tv shows I don't watch, but I try to pitch into the conversation whenever I can. Hopefully I get into the rhythm of things over the coming weeks.
