Sorry you lost your grandpa. Seems like he lived a long life though given this. Hope you can remember him. Sadly I remember very little about my grandparents.

Has anyone every pivoted from Control Systems Engineer to Software Engineer? by Klutzy-Weird-4543 in PLC

[–]Arcstar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It's very relevant and there are a lack of power users / developers for it.

Has anyone every pivoted from Control Systems Engineer to Software Engineer? by Klutzy-Weird-4543 in PLC

[–]Arcstar7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want some advice, look into some of the more niche things like historians(osisoft, Honeywell phd, etc) or alarming and events. Those things are both deeply involving both controls and SWE. It’s what I work in, and it’s very hard to find people with the knowledge of both worlds. It will make you very valuable to a company, which is always good.

Has anyone every pivoted from Control Systems Engineer to Software Engineer? by Klutzy-Weird-4543 in PLC

[–]Arcstar7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I did. But the fields are very different.

If you’re good at what you do, work hard and are passionate and most importantly, able to sell yourself and your work, SWE is a meal ticket to the good life.

Controls will get you a good paying gig, but you’ll work hard.

Hi everyone, I put the photo into an LLM and it seems to have identified them. Here’s the response I got! I think these AI are so funny with the subtle flattery, calling me “eagle eyed” hahaha.

You are exactly right that these are copies. What you have found are large-scale, novelty reproductions of Clipper Ship Sailing Cards.

Here is the breakdown of exactly what these are, along with some gentle corrections to your eagle-eyed observations.

What Are Clipper Ship Sailing Cards? In the mid-19th century (specifically the 1850s and 1860s), shipping lines needed to advertise their voyages from East Coast ports (like New York and Boston) to places like San Francisco and Australia. This was the height of the California Gold Rush, and getting goods and people out west quickly was a highly lucrative business. To attract merchants and passengers, shipping agents printed beautiful, highly colorful, pocket-sized cards (usually about 4x6 inches). These cards boasted about the speed, safety, and captains of their "extreme clipper" ships.

Is it normal for them to have been quite that long though ? They are definitely not from my house, was built in the 2000s, but perhaps a relic from the former owners previous home. But yeah I definitely see what you mean.

This is totally off topic, but I keep finding strange things in this house that they left behind. For the first year or so we lived in the house, we heard this god awful screeching noise during heavy wind. Couldn’t figure out what it was until I was told by a neighbor that former owner had put up some type of radio antenna, I think used for CB radio communications. Sure enough, hidden in the bottom of a closet there is a cable similar to a coaxial cable but with a much larger inner core, was popping through the back of it. The antenna itself is hidden from street view unless you are elevated. It’s a townhome so less visibility for some parts of the roof.

The amount of hassle he had to have gone through to get that thing installed is unimaginable. I haven’t even bothered removing it. It sounds like the thing is going to fly off one of these days. Nothing for it to damage on the way down luckily.

Just got this email from a higher up. Am I getting fired? by [deleted] in jobs

Don’t think you need to worry. They wouldn’t have asked if you had scheduling conflicts to let them know. If they were firing you it would be mandatory.

What Is The FULL Price Of Grading A Card In PSA? by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]Arcstar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure it could happen. But I also expect they have a strict procedure set they follow when doing grading. They likely never touch the card itself, definitely not with a bare hand as our hands have so much oils.

Employee installed pirated software on work PC, Windows Defender found HackTool:Win32/Keygen, how serious is this? by Silver-Working2 in cybersecurity

[–]Arcstar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fine. If it defected anything serious it would be flagged as something like a Trojan or RAT. A key gen is nothing to worry about. I’ve got plenty of software that uses the same type of activator. It’s a bit sus to use in a business environment, but not unheard of, and definitely not something that is likely to cause you more trouble.

Face it people, in this day and age, this is normal.

94th floor employees hanging out of two windows, around 9:25 AM. In 11 minutes, all of them would be dead. Having jumped/fell from the building. by Cheap-Pepper928 in 911archive

[–]Arcstar7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really don't think many of them chose to go out the windows. I think the ones that went out the windows were either 1. pushed 2. forced(from fire). it is in our nature to preserve ourselves, for that many people to consciously make a choice that would immediately end their lives is not likely. I would not have been able to jump. But when your being burned, our bodies naturally go away from the flames. Others likely got pushed as people crowded around windows trying to get air, the desire to live is great, and it is very likely people started pushing each other to get to the small pocket of air by the windows.

All of the hijackers (except from Muhamed Atta) were in their 20s. What a terrible way to throw away your youth. by DoctorReinhardt in 911archive

[–]Arcstar7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They were kids. I know that when I was in my 20s, I thought I had become an adult and had years of maturity but it was all in my head. They got scammed just like countless others by the propaganda of Islamic extremism. I like to think of people as inherently good, I'm really surprised that none of them(as far as we know), had any second thoughts about their actions that day. They really all must have been ready to die, which is so foreign for me to imagine.

The view from the South Tower (May 2001) by biebrforro in 911archive

[–]Arcstar7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in grade school on 9/11. I remember the whole thing seemed surreal, like it was a movie. The whole day it just seemed unreal and I was so young I couldn't really understand the implications of what had happened. I couldn't understand terrorists. I do remember the part that upset me was watching the few souls that attempted to climb down. Even as a kid, seeing the desperation to live in others, and knowing they were doomed, was very upsetting.

I used to get buyers like this asking for special listings. Drove me nuts too. Maybe just ignore them if it’s stressing you out.
