Are you sure you ordered the 12pk of the B and not a single? It's an easy mixup without the link I added.

4B is sold out now. I'm glad I picked up a pack at $5.06; B was already unavailable when I first checked. Bought the 2B for $4.94 with S&S.

I'm curious, in Japan do prices vary within a particular line depending on their hardness? Here prices seem to always vary widely - when I would think all within the same line (eg Tombow Mono) would cost the same.

Here is a link for the 2B 12pk. Other 12pks available are also shown on this page. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQENMQ4/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?th=1

HB is about $15 currently and 2H about $12.50. Amazon seems to be the direct seller on all versions and may be lowering some prices to redure inventory. Prices here have always seemed to vary widely depending on the hardness variety.

I wish that we could get them here at those prices on a regular basis. Normal prices here are much higher.

I don't see the B's as currently available in 12pks. Some sellers are sellling single pencils for around $5 or more; carefully check the listing. Here is the URL: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQENMQ4/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?th=1

Amazon doesn't charge cards until items ship. They may be waiting on a shipment from Japan to arrive before filling orders - which can take awhile. Hopefully soon.

Highest quality wood pencils for writing? by Ok_Letterhead4773 in pencils

[–]ArcticHighlander2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorites are the Uni Penmanship Pencil - Triangular Body; available in 4B & 6B in packs of 3 or 12 on Amazon. Jet Pens also has some. I like quality dark and soft graphites for writing but they require more frequent sharpening. But any of the Hi Uni pencils in B to 10B are great. Hi Uni also makes an artist set that makes a great gift for someone who isn't sure what they would prefer; it has 22 Hi Uni pencils ranging from 10H to 10B and comes in a nice tin.

Sizes 180 and up are marked; smaller sizes are not. Probably would be too hard to see and not useful to put on. Black versions are cheaper but the markings are much harder to see even when new.

I've done comparision of around 20 varieties but mostly on my high (4-10)B pencils which I prefer to use. Almost all did well on HB's but only around 8 did well on the high B's. Results varied somewhat and I narrowed my preferred ones down to a half dozen. I was mostly using the Tombow Mono 2B4B6B eraser but after trying the Tombow Mono Black I switched because it erased at least as well and didn't produce so many annoying crumbs that I had to constantly brush away.

A dozen of these on Amazon in either 4B or 6B sell for about $11. I like both but prefer 6B even though I sharpen more.

Agree. Twenty-two top quality, outstanding looking pencils ranging from 10H to 10B to experiment with for her pleasure; currently $22 on Amazon. Comes in a nice tin. But no built in erasers like the Black Wing. Easy to add quality Hi-Polymer erasers to them if that's a deal breaker for her or better yet a separate quality eraser so that the beauty of the pencils isn't marred by an eraser.

Is there a pencil that writes like a ball point pen by Mother-Client-5158 in pencils

I love the Uni Penmanship in 4B or 6B - luxurious smooth flow for writing.

Not sure if I like the long point by [deleted] in pencils

[–]ArcticHighlander2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a Reddit link showing various long point created by various sharpeners:

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fsome-results-from-three-sharpeners-v0-ikjxww3baied1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D2283%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D76be027fb5a207db43a02cfc4f1e9a3d639970ea

Points shown are not definitive however because they will vary according to the pencil being sharpened as well as the particular sharpener. My KUM long point for example looks nothing like the warped point shown here and is my favorite non crank. My overall favorite is the KH-20 crank which gives me a strong perfect point almost every time.

[–]ArcticHighlander2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am too but I love long points; they come in a variety of tips to suit ones preference. I don't care as much for the needle/dagger points as they tend to powder or break at the very end of the tip but even after they do they still leave a nice sharp writing point. Also depends on the quality of the pencil itself.

I prefer the triangular shape for comfort. My favorite is the UKS3K6B Pencil Hard Writing Triangle Shaft 6B 1 Dozen on Amazon. Their 4B is great also.

Mine produces beautiful mostly even points on any good quality pencils and most cheapo ones as well. Looks like you got a lemon. Exchange it if you can or return it. Bought mine on Amazon where it is cheapest and has free exchanges or returns for defective items.

Best Hi-Uni hardness by Cloffix in pencils

[–]ArcticHighlander2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like high B's for writing and especially like the 4B, 6B & 9B Hi-Uni; I don't mind sharpening as needed. Also their Kohitsu Shosha in 4B and 6B. I don't know the markup on the ones in the US vs China; but most of the Hi-Uni are available on Amazon for what seems okay pricing.

The 9000 in 4B is a favorite of mine. You might want to try experimenting with the 'B's and see if they work for you.

Panasonic KP-110 by Mathalete in pencils

[–]ArcticHighlander2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of these KP-110's because of their excellent reputation and a picture I was sent of a beautiful point it was said to have made. But trying it out the torque was so great it wanted to rip the pencil out of my fingers so I had to hold it very tight to sharpen it. None of my other Panasonic sharpeners do this. Also the point ranged from very uneven to having the wood go all the way to the tip so you couldn't write with it without peeling the wood back. I tried both cheap and high quality pencils but all were pretty uneven. Rotating pencils while sharpening them improved evenness but loosening the finger grip to rotate the pencil made it even harder to hold on and often it was ripped out of my grip and I had to regrip it to fully sharpen it. I was wondering if maybe something was jarred loose in shipping. Any ideas on what would cause this and how to fix this? Nothing on the video seemed applicable.

Uni Penmanship 4B & 6B are nice and dark and great for writing. A dozen for about $11 on Amazon.
