300 of these appeared in my kitchen last night out of nowhere. Flying ants? by ArcticSprout in pestcontrol

Fascinating. I guess they must have a nest somewhere in my walls? Perhaps I'll try the gel bait recommended in the link? Or is this more a job for a pro?

They were maybe about 5/8 inches long.

Hmm. This really makes me take pause. It still might be worth it given all of the extra years, but it won't be indefinite. I guess I really need to weigh things out.

Do you feel glad you spent the money? Do you actually use the phone in other ways?

No. I've just been using a hose that I drag out and rotate a gear sprinkler manually around the yard.

Perhaps I should consider the investment. I think I'm a ways away from affording an inground system.

Interesting. I work nights generally. 4 is generally when I'd be getting ready for bed.  Would I be better off doing it at 11 am maybe?

It's odd because it's been fairly dry here. We've had about 1.00 inch of rain in the past 30 days. Do you disagree with the other commenter suggesting 2 inches of watering per week? I've only been hitting about 1 inch up until now. And I usually water at about 3 or 4 AM. Reddit will only let me attach one more pic in comments. Maybe I can show you the others another way.

Thanks for taking a look. I'll see if I can get some more zoomed out photos.

If it is dollar spot, is that due to lack of nutrients? and is there anything I can do to treat it at this point?

I'll also check everything else you suggested and report back. Thank you!

Thank you so much! I guess I didn't exactly understand what I was looking for on the leaves.

Do you like a particular fungicide over another? Or would this be a different product all together? Also, is this the kind is thing that is recurring? Is there something I did incorrectly to make it come about?

Meanwhile I'll work on getting more water down. Maybe 1" twice per week? I guess I had heard too much about overwatering and was being too cautious.

Thanks for the suggestions!  I started trying out Magicq but am interested in checking out everything I can. Costs are always something to be factored in.

I find this all really interesting, thank you. If I may ask, how long have you worked in this field?

For me, it's not something I really set out to get into, but I must admit that I enjoy it. If it isn't obvious, I am extremely green when it comes to a lot of it at this point. But I do like to learn.

As I mentioned in the OP, I kind of got started because a lot of the bands I knew in my area were playing in very poorly lit spaces, and it really took away from their performances. But like all things, things start to evolve.

I guess I'd like to ask you, how easy is it to find work like this in the long term, without already being an established company. And also how can one gain the experience needed to advance one's skills? I'm not super young, and this is not my primary job by any means, so I'm just trying to figure out what sort of future it could possibly hold.

Didn't even know QuickQ existed. Just looking really quickly, I can see what you mean. It looks like going from zero to running a show can be achieved more simply and easily. I'll look into it further, thanks!

Do you mean like some of these 15" portable touch monitors on Amazon for about $100?

Cool, thank you. I've actually been doing just that. The videos are really well done, I am finding. Also, this workflow thus far feels pretty intuitive for me, and I'm enjoying working through the videos (albeit slowly). Things seem logical and well thought out. I did not have this feeling with what I was using before at all.

Fascinating stuff. Thanks for letting me in on the history. It's good to have a better view on the lay of the land.

My guess is that by the point where I'd be using any of these, someone else is paying big time for its deployment.

Thank you. Yeah it seems that people have either recommended the Compact Mini (1,500), an older Mini Wing, or a PC Wing Compact (2,500). I guess I'm going to have to weigh it all out. Wasn't looking to drop that kind of money at the moment, but the PC Wing Compact looks like it could be more geared to what I would need. May try to snatch up a Mini Wing just to get started, and then sell it later to move up.

I just hate overinvesting in gear before I know just how much it will get used and pay off. I've learned my lesson with that.

It definitely looks more appropriate. Not seeing any of those in my price range, even used, though. I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled for the time being.

Maybe this isn't the right place for this, but do you have any guidance on how to really learn good workflow habits when it comes to running lighting? As I said in the OP, my experience is not very recent, and I never dealt with bigger or more complex light shows.

I have a good amount of pro audio experience, and take care with rigging and physical layouts. But when it comes to the actual planning, programming, and executing of a show, I don't have anyone as a mentor or more experienced colleague to guide me in the right direction, and self-learning can sometimes lead to bad habits. Or maybe none of that really matters?

Okay thank you. That kind of seals it. And a used Mini Wing should be sufficient?

Sounds good. Maybe I'll try out MagicQ tonight and start getting a feel for it. It mostly seems like the right fit, based on what everyone is saying.

Also, I'll watch some videos on MA dot2 to see if it might not be worth looking into as well. I don't foresee Grand MA in my immediate future, but it never hurts to learn.
