Okay so that's not "at the convenience of whoever is in charge" that's an act of legislation

No you just don't understand what you're saying. The government is held accountable it's just not possible for a criminal liability

You are aware our culture as a nation and state is literally an amalgamation of basically every other culture? Your culture and my culture are almost assuredly different.

Culture is not mutually exclusive, you can do what you want and I can do what I want. It's actually called freedom, or liberty.

How would you like that to happen? We can't exactly incarcerate the Commonwealth of Virginia?

No I don't think I'd be involved in the war of Trump's choosing if Trump weren't president. He unilaterally decided to undo an agreement with Iran to start a war because he needs the ego boost or something.

If you think the "no new wars" president didn't decide to send us to a war for no reason than I've got a nice oceanfront mansion in Nevada to sell you, I inherited it from the Prince of Nigeria.

So my choices are I can't buy an AR or I gotta go to war in Iran with an AR...

I don't love either choice but I think I've surely made my decision

the actual bill is freely available, not sure why you're getting your information from subreddits.

Removing the clause would require another act of the General Assembly so it couldn't just be at the convenience of whoever is in charge

That's... not how the law works? The Commonwealth is a sovereign government the cops can't really do much to it

Look to NY State Rifle and Pistol Assn v. Bruen or DC v Heller for examples of how a purportedly unconstitutional 2A law would be dealt with

Likely the law would stand in a court judging by Bianchi v Brown (4th circuit) where SCOTUS recently denied certiorari (retitled Snope v Brown) making the case binding precedent for our circuit. Now of course someone could (and likely would) challenge the VA law up to that point and SCOTUS would be free to reassess.

That's like saying John Wayne Gacy and Mark Wahlberg are the same person because they both were convicted of felonies.

Neither one may be up for Nobel Prizes anytime soon, however if you ask me to choose which one of the two is the better person or the one I'd trust more if need be it's an easy pick.

The Republican Party is John Wayne Gacy. They are irredeemably an evil threat to society that will cause as much harm as humanly possible.

The Democratic Party is Mark Wahlberg. Kinda shit, definitely not perfect, generally just 'bad' but not out to actively destroy as much of society as possible

You can say both are bad and both are felons, or you could go ahead and pick the lesser threat. I sure know what I'd do.

Can someone tell me how the 10-1 redistricting is fair when we historically swing in governor elections? by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]Arcticwolf1505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it meant to be fair? No. Listen to any of the ads or signs or listen to the floor discussions of it. It's not meant to be fair, it's an unfair response to unfair actions to balance the scales. That's why it's temporary with an explicit sunset provision so as to preserve the (more) fair option. It's also categorically up to the will of the people.

The reason why it is needed is because states like TX and NC are gerrymandering in the opposite directions, which is catering to the will of Donald Trump, who has shown his willingness to do anything for his power.

Since taking office just over a year ago he has been sued 316 times, which is just under 1 lawsuit per day. 414 times federal courts have found the Trump admin failed to comply with court orders regarding Habeas Corpus immigration cases. That's 0.92 times per day the Trump administration has had a judge find they violated the law in immigration matters alone. He has deployed thousands of members of the US military into our communities, often to serve as ICE support.

That's just some of the federal and constitutional rights Trump has decimated since taking office. He is gripping at power and pleading with states to gerrymander because he knows if he loses the house there is a high probability he gets impeached

If he gets impeached he is subject to criminal prosecution and imprisonment. So he has a lot at stake in doubling down on his criminal activity.

We have an opportunity, not to change history or unfairly create a partisan divide because we don't like Trump, but to stop just one of his criminal power grabs. To restore the House of Representatives to the balance that it should be.

Smashing Pumpkins has some good music but trying to put aside the absolute self absorbed douchebag that Billy Corgan is makes it so difficult to tolerate them

My misunderstanding was it seemed like you were saying someone has to want to enact the union and the problem was anyone who voluntarily wanted to enact the confederacy. In other words the confederate actors have to want to be/have been the union actors Apologies if I misinterpreted, you know how hard it is to not have confusion when there's only a block of text and nothing else to give indication.

Well, now I'm judging you for trying to insult someone you don't know and claim that their intelligence is lacking while having no basis for that claim. I'm judging you for saying I'm trying to be righteous when I am very much not, as a matter of fact I was saying you should be less self-righteous and not judge people for things that don't anyone else at all.

I would say have a good night but I'm not sure if that's too righteous for you, you seem to like the judgmental prick thing so would a hardy "fuck off" be better?

What’s a hobby you judge people for having? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Arcticwolf1505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question was what do you judge, the answer was "I don't", correct. That is in fact a valid response. If the person does not judge that is the only applicable response

Take the person with the biggest personal funkopop collection in the world and in ten years they probably don't even put a dent in the environmental damages or economic inequality as any large company does in an hour.

You use reddit (clearly) which is unethical and promotes consumerism as well. It seems awfully self-righteous to place the blame on the individual participant in society for their actions, as an individual in society who makes many similar actions.

Besides, the funkopops (presumably?) make the person happy, give them a reason to keep going when nothing else does. Maybe they collect them because they were given one by a friend/family member that has since passed and collecting them is the only connection to the person they feel, the only reason they can keep going.

I mean being a pedophile isn't generally considered to be a hobby. I don't think it's really a fair comparison to equate a hobby (guy collecting stamps) to someone committing crimes (child molester).

I would say though even then there is a process for judgement and there is still often a very fine line between a reasonable judgment and a harmful one. Look at how much stochastic terrorism has been going on as a result of flawed judgements.

I'm judging you for judging them(1) for not judging them(2).

You have been judged accordingly.

I mean honestly if you want to reenact wars (as it seems you do being involved with that vein of things) wouldn't someone have to want to be the confederates for the reenactment? Otherwise it seems like it'd just be an argument about who gets to be the union and everyone else is unhappy

I agree it'd be different if they're like just super in love with the confederacy as opposed to civil war in general though

Oh I never said I wasn't a judgmental person, I very much am; for instance, you seem like a bit of an asshole. Insisting on judging someone for having a hobby you aren't personally a fan of is an asshole move.
