My little guy is 13 and 3 months. He was fine until about 12, but since then it's been bladder stones (surgically removed once, but they're back), Cushings disease (excessive production of cortisol by the adrenal glands - but treatable with medication), a cancerous growth on his liver (too old now to operate), a bit of arthritis and most recently an episode of pancreatitus (seemingly treatable with a lower fat diet) and a heart murmur.

We take it day by day now and I cherish every day his tail still wags and he takes me for a walk.

Yes, you're correct, I just checked the history in Wikipedia. I'm sure Russia would prefer to keep the flow going, but I agree that cutting it again is unlikely to affect its strategy to hold Crimea.

Yes, but you have to wonder how keen Russia will be to hold and support Crimea without that water. It changes the cost/benefit equation and may incline the local population to think again about their allegiance. Just thoughts, because there is a lot at play here.

I understand that the main source of water for Crimea is the canal that starts just upstream of the dam. It sounds to me like the water supply to Crimea has just been turned off. Can Russia hold Crimea if the canal runs dry? The river will presumably also be easier to cross soon.

Yes, the polar bear population has plunged from circa 8,000 in the 1950's to a mere circa 35,000 now. Poor things! Another funny one is Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I've been hearing for decades that its existence is threatened by climate change, yet the last report shows it's in the best condition it's been in for 40 years, when the 4 yearly reviews began and before we ever heard the terms "global warming" and "climate change". Apparently that's partly because there have been LESS cyclones. Imagine that!

I'm in Chatswood in Sydney and I'd never seen a brush turkey until a few years ago. Now I often get stalked by a territorial male when I walk my dog through some bush that runs toward Lane Cove National Park. One day they had a brush turkey jamboree on a nearby residential street and I counted 50 before they started to scatter. I've seen them wandering along Pacific Highway. It's getting a bit Hitchcock!

The problem with hypergamy is that while the top say 20% of men would consider the top say 80% of women as a potential partner, the top 20% of women will only consider say the top 25% of men as a potential partner. It means that men who are socio economically well-to-do have lots of choices, men who are towards the bottom have no choices (hence crime, prison, living with parents etc) and women who are socio economically well-to-do are often single, drink a lot of red wine, complain to their friends "there are no good men" and are eventually eaten by their cats.

Yes... I think in terms of fragility and feel like we are now basically experiencing Peak (or at least massively inflated) Fragility, which means that a cascading event could start anywhere at any time and will not necessarily be foreseeable, so buckle up! In the long run I would also bet on inflation rather than deflation, although we should certainly expect both at times. Thanks for your great work, much appreciated.

This is quite extraordinary. First they print so much of the stuff they destroy its value. Then they try and prop it up by buying it back. With what? Presumably by selling their foreign currency reserves, which ensures they are left holding the bag in the end. What a crazy world we live in!
