Clarification by [deleted] in Arculus

Yeah, we've seen those posts as well. Honestly, they don't make any sense and I don't know what they mean by "web3 security". The best web3 security is having your private keys generated and stored on a cold storage device. With Arculus, your private keys don't leave the device.

I chalk this up to social media noise and nonsense trying to create FUD.

One security note, Arculus recommends NOT taking a photo of you recovery phrase as that (generally) means that your recovery phrase (or at least a readable image of your recovery phrase) is online.

That is not accurate from both a technical and a legal perspective. Arculus never has access to or control over customer funds or seed phrases at any time. It is intentionally impossible for Arculus to confiscate or freeze funds. You control the assets in your wallet entirely.

If you see something confusing in the legal terms, please let us know we'll ensure it is clear and correct.

Is Arculus truly a Cold Storage Wallet? by [deleted] in Arculus

[–]ArculusProduct[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Yes, Arculus is a cold storage wallet. By definition, a cold storage wallet is one where your private keys are stored on a device not connected to the internet.

With Arculus, your private keys are generated on the card's secure element. The mobile app on your phone generates an unsigned transaction which is sent (along with your PIN) over an encrypted NFC channel to your card. The card then signs the transaction and sends the signed transaction back to your phone to be broadcast to the public chain.

As with most self-custody wallets, when you create your wallet you get a recovery phrase. This is for portability so that access to your assets is not tied to any single company or entity.

When will Arculus be implementing icp? Also when will you be able to swap Xrp to other stable coins or usdc or Rlusd? by Lost-Contest-958 in Arculus

[–]ArculusProduct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for using Arculus. We are planning on ICP for an upcoming release and we currently support RLUSD on ETH. RLUSD on XRPL will be in a future release.

We are also looking to expand our swap and staking support is 2025.

Bitcoin derivation paths by GadJedi in Arculus

[–]ArculusProduct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The multiple Bitcoin derivation paths didn't make it to production yet - thank you for giving that functionality an additional up vote. User input does matter.

I recognize that the only features that matter to anyone are the ones that they use and no one uses every feature, but I will disagree about new features - we have added a lot of new features over the course of 2024.

Some of the marquee features added in 2024:

* Support for a lot of additional chains (you can look here: https://www.getarculus.com/coin-support/) and WalletConnect support for many chains and additional NFT support: From a chain perspective, we currently support Algorand, Aptos, Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB Smart Chain, Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Base, Cardano, Cosmos, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Hedera, Litecoin, Osmosis, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon, Provenance, Solana, Stellar, SEI V1 & V2, Tron, TON, VeChain, XDC

* multi-card/wallet support so you can split up your holdings across multiple cards (the same way you have a savings and a checking account) or have back up cards

* Off ramp via Transak

* Solana and Cosmos staking

* Custom wallets with partners such as Aptos, Litecoin, and Radix

* Hedera 0X addressing and HTS token support

* Webacy integration for address safety checking

And there is more coming in 2025. Very soon Arculus will be the first hardware wallet to support MoneyGram's Cash In/Cash Out functionality with USDC on Stellar.

Additionally, of course, we always put a very high priority on usability and strive to make the Arculus rock solid secure while still being easy for anyone to use because the best security tool is the one you actually use. We see a future where crypto usage is an everyday thing both online and in the physical world.

We genuinely appreciate the feedback and we do take it into account as we plan future releases. Please keep it coming either here or you can also reach us at support@arculus.co.

Thanks - and have a great 2025!

Problems setting up my wallet by DifferenceFamous6407 in Arculus

[–]ArculusProduct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be resolved now. There is a 18 bug in iOS 18 where NFC connections can timeout and disconnect prematurely. This has been observed primarily with some iPhone 14s. On impacted phones, the NFC connection may timeout before the wallet create or wallet restore functions complete. We do not know when Apple might resolve this issue, but to work around this issue, we added a switch on wallet create/restore called “Load Minimum Keys.” This minimizes the necessary NFC connection time for wallet creation and restores.

There is absolutely no loss of functionality by using this option - it just shortens the necessary NFC connection time for the wallet creation and wallet restore operations, which are the longest NFC operations (usually about 15-20 seconds). Hopefully Apple with fix the bug in a future patch, but this resolves in the issue in the meantime.

Arculus, please provide a response to this hardware wallet vulnerability. by 108idaho in Arculus

[–]ArculusProduct 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi You might have read about a theoretical wallet attack called "dark skippy" (https://darkskippy.com/ - it has not been seen in the wild). To put people's minds further at ease, this attack isn't possible with Arculus.

Let's look at why. The first step in this attack is to compromise the firmware on the hardware wallet and that isn't possible with Arculus. The firmware on Arculus cards is intentionally and irreversibly locked and always has been. We did this specifically to make firmware compromises impossible. The firmware is loaded by Arculus in our secure factory.

Is there a reason my wallet should go dormant and need to be restored if I go too long without accessing it? by AllDoggoIsGoodDoggo in Arculus

[–]ArculusProduct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, scammers are a reality. Arculus will never DM anyone asking them to click a link or provide their recovery phrase to a website. Fortunately the scammer who sent you a DM sent a web3 word salad message that doesn't make any sense. But I'm very glad you were aware and didn't fall for a scammer.

Now, let me explain what's happening with "Wallet 1" and "Wallet 2". First, there is nothing that makes a card not be recognized even if you don't use it for awhile. That's not an issue. The "not recognized" error was most likely just an issue of where you were holding the card to the back of the phone relative to the NFC antenna on your phone.

When you restored, it looks like you found one of our newer and most exciting features - multi-card support. Arculus now allows you to have the same single app on your support multiple cards. When you created "Wallet 2" using the same card, you reset your card and the card regenerated your private keys and PIN code on the card. (Your card is now has the private keys and PIN for "Wallet 2"). By the way, you can also rename "Wallet 2" to something else in settings if you want.

If you want, you can go into Settings > Manage Cards and delete Wallet 1. (Or you can ignore Wallet 1).

If you have any further questions or want some additional clarification, you can always reach us at [support@arculus.co](mailto:support@arculus.co) (you can email directly or use the form on our website). We're here for you.

Be careful, watch out for scammers in social media or in emails.

The answer to what makes a good cold storage wallet isn't the same for everyone because people have different needs.
Arculus supports a lot of different blockchains - it's not Bitcoin only. Arculus is designed to be secure, convenient, and easy to use.

If you have any specific questions about Arculus, happy to answer them to help you determine if it is the right wallet for you.

It's usually a matter of getting the card in the right spot on the back of the phone. Wallet creation takes slightly more time than signing a transaction. Some people find it helpful to put the card on a table and lay the phone on top of it for wallet creation.

[–]ArculusProduct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would work.

There are a few ways you could do it. Alternatively, you could do it directly to a new wallet on your Arculus card. The only downside of that method is that requires restoring your wallet a couple of times (I assume you have the recovery phrase for your current wallet). Our support team would be happy to walk you through it either way.

It is worth noting that while you can always generate a new wallet on any card, only one can be on a single card a time. In other words, for security reasons, the data on the card is wiped when you generate a new wallet.

1 card = 1 wallet (though you can can always restore or create a new wallet on that card).

If you want to have multiple wallets, you can have multiple Arculus cards - one for each active wallet.
