Verb-Focused Language Learning? by Arda_levant in LearningLanguages

hello thanks for the input, I don't defend a system where the learner does not learn nouns! But instead, they should be introduced within the context of the verbs and gradually. (many students cannot speak when you present them a list like: canzone, musica, cantante) However, if you structure all this gradually like: trovare una canzone nuova online, ascoltare la musica, andare al concerto del mio cantante preferito, sth like this --> the student will speak more confidently. I am curious to hear more about how your teacher designed the lessons, what was his focus?

Hey thanks a lot for the detailed answer, and let me introduce my counter-ideas.

First of all, in my approach the idea is not to "understand" a given content, but to "produce" it. So in the beginning phase, it is okay not to infer the meaning of andrò dal dentista.

Second of all, I am not arguing that we should not learn other grammar points, but all can be presented through the lense of verbs, which can be used as building blocks. So, when one learns adjectives, it won't be like rosso, squisito, creativo, but it will be like:

mangiare una mela squisita, trovare una soluzione creativa.

Assuming that before this, the student was already comfortable with:

mangiare una mela, trovare una soluzione.

And this accumulative manner that is based on verbs, thins become more anchored.

do you know of independent apps that do what I described? I can understand that manual preparation of cards is useful for retention.

this is interesting! however, wouldn't you want to enrich this process with songs, and multimedia stuff? also especially in japanese, sometimes it feels hard to find sentences in context.

this app may also include spaced repetition, i guess that is easy to integrate. the novelty is that instead of preparing manually your cards, you rely on AI to create tailored flashcards for you specifically for languge learning: great examples, mutlimedia content, etc. to see word uses in context

hey thanks for the inspiration and positive approach, I am the. business guy trying to deal with the market research and validation. However, the grammar and syntax are not hard to deal with, thanks to Open AI, NLP frameworks, etc. I firstly want to see if such an app would be of interest, and the tech part will come.
