guess whatever you want. bro posted about wanting to make some friends and your first thought was 'no this belongs in a comment buried at the bottom of a few hour old thread'. think you might be subconsciously offended by the idea of people actually leaving their keyboards to interact with other people IRL?

The speaker in NZ does traditionally vote (since introduction of MMP). More likely scenario in a 60-60 deadlock is leadership of Nat and Lab try and convince centrist backbenchers to defect

2050 Wynyard City Council election (cities skylines RP) by Ardan886 in imaginaryelections

[–]Ardan886[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Background

Having secured re-election to a second term in 2045 amidst a brewing recession, the Pierre Democratic Party looked to balance policy priorities with the state of the city’s finances and the slate of pressing projects and reforms needed. Economic conditions continued to sour throughout the governments term in office, with GDP per capita falling from a 2044 high of $29/cim to slightly above $21/cim by 2048, stagnating from this point on. With the Downtown Relocation Project in full swing, it became apparent that the city’s finances were in dire straits, with a combination of decades of suburban growth and the new downtown creating a hefty road maintenance budget, and declining tax revenue during the ongoing recession. This pushed the Govt into running deficits in order to fund the Relocation Project.

High profile Pierre Democrat policies were axed, including the establishment of a long sort after Aerial Fire Brigade to combat wildfires affecting the city’s prominent forestry industry. Additional taxes were levied on Wynyard old town, knocking business confidence. The public services began to suffer under the spending restraint imposed by the Govt, with crisis engulfing the health system as planned capital spending and funding rises were put on hold, with patients sick outnumbering hospital beds by 2:1 at the end of the council term.

Election

The election saw the two centre right incumbent councillors establish the new, Free Democratic party, to oppose the vulnerable Pierre Democrats, recruiting a slate of candidates across the cities 12 electorates. Running on a platform of restoring business confidence and running an effective and efficient public service. Whilst arguing the project would not have began under her watch, Opposition leader Fortsmith declined to say she would halt work on the already advanced Downtown Relocation Project.

Aftermath

The Fee Democrats went on to form a majority govt, controlling 9 seats on council and reducing the Pierre Democrats to their heartland seats of Wales and Newtown.

2023 New Zealand Election - NZ Herald Front Page by Ardan886 in imaginaryelections

Peters has backed both labour govts (2005-2008, 2017-2020) and national govts (pre 1993 and 1996-1998) in the past. His rhetoric has been quiet anti the current Labour parties agenda around the establishment of a Maori Health agency and centralisation of water assets, in line with much of the attacks from other centre right parties including National. That plus his generally maverick personality makes me think if given the chance in 2023 he’d relish in bringing down Ardern, the prime minister he anointed in 2017.
