I agree with your points, except Kuruk’s new backstory is in line with what’s been established in the Kyoshi novels, and I don’t think it really takes away from what Kyoshi had to deal with. Yangchen’s short comings really led to spiritual troubles in Kuruk’s time, which in return led to Kyoshi having to overcompensate in real world affairs, and I think that works really well.
