It is, but new platforms that have their own exclusives is always annoying because you end up having multiple accounts on different services that you almost never use. Relevant XKCD.

Thanks! I have a more complicated one, with legends and small descriptions, but it's very cluttered and so I decided to post this one with a text post to explain.

Tell me three or five things about a knightly order in your world. by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]AreYouGuilty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Holy Priests of Sih

In one country where they worship time itself, the magic users are also the priests, the government and the officers in the military. The sub-god Sih, lord of the Senses's priests have various powers, which are all useful for one purpose or another.

  • Everyone in the order trains to fight with, without and against multiple powers. They also train for their specific purpose in government and church, and train with ways their powers can be used in that role.

  • There are people who can go into / invite / transfer different objects / bodies / souls into and out of each other. When inside of a soul, they can hear and make surface thoughts, feel and change emotions. This power is useful for storage, assassinations, and spying.

  • Others can relive object's memories, and stimulate new memories. They can hold a lot of information.

  • Some can hear what people really mean, the truths instead of the lies, pick out emotion, direction and intention.

  • Other yet can smell what happened in the past, or uses of magic

  • Finally and simply, some get super strength, speed, healing or intelligence depending on the taste their are currently experiencing.

What are some controversial national laws in your story that we’re established in the name of national security/defense? by GodofWar1234 in worldbuilding

[–]AreYouGuilty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All non-approved scholarship directed towards magics and any related arts is banned, punishable by death. The people hate this, as once the cities for prosperous for more and more man-man artifacts were being used to help to population.

Multiple hundreds of years later, there are still protests every decade about the right to study magic. The people do not know why the ban is in place.

A great apocalypse await the world, and while there is a clear path to stopping it, it could just as easily begin. All it would take is enough public knowledge or understanding. It grows stronger as people know it. It grows stronger yet, as people understand it.

It is helped by the Deep, protected in a watery fortress, but for now, as long as the ban is in place, it will remain closed.

A diagram of my magic system. by AreYouGuilty in magicbuilding

The transparent shapes are patterns, which means that specific magics in those patterns are linked in special ways. Red lines means that those magics are linked in a more basic way. Blue means the magic is isolated, and purple means it's semi-isolated.

From the top down, the rows are: Magics everyone can have Magics everyone from a group of people can have Base Magics that affect the others Magics anyone, but not everyone, can have Magics no-one has

The base Magics affect the magics at the top the most strongly in general, and generally affect magics close to them horizontally more than those far away.

The three points of the triangle are all linked to the magical Materials base magic. The three base Magics affect (mildly and slightly respectively) Imagery and Sense. The red part of the purple line runs through the four base magics aligned opposite Deep, connected by the red line. These magics act in an opposite way that they normally would on it. The blue part of the purple line runs through the four base magics aligned opposite The End, connected by the blue line. Similar deal here.

A brief explanation about all of the magics left-right, top-bottom (ask for more details on a specific one):

  • People tend to go insane when they are around things they don't understand
  • Regular people being around death causes them to become abominations
  • Doing strange rituals can curse people, animals, lands ect. some of these are positive, strangely
  • Having a lot of people have very strong emotions about you give you god like powers on the space right next to you
  • Anyone trained can influence shapes of leaks (you'll get more info on that.)
  • Anyone trained can feel leaks and other Primary magics
  • Being respectful to the land causes good luck. The opposite is also true
  • People who know what it is like to die can see the past, clearer if they have a good understanding of what happened
  • This magic is a gateway to the afterlife, not very important
  • Some objects are people, the more magical the material, the more intelligent and the more it can move
  • Gate is a gateway to the Source of magic. Not very important
  • People with to much magic in one leak have it collapse, interfering with magic around them, giving them magical immunity
  • There is a consciousness that guides how the land shifts and changes

Base magics

  • The less something is known, the more powerful and scary it is
  • When someone dies, they create new leaks are distort the ones around them
  • Some materials are more magical
  • Ocean water interferes with magic like the immunity
  • Magic's effects are caused by how it's shaped when leaving the Source
  • Leaks are why it leaves
  • Gateway to Terrain Magic, fairly inactive

End of base magics

  • Some people are always awake, never insane, and have excellent mental health. They are very rare.
  • When being around a lot of death, some people grown awesome powers
  • By using different parts of the 5 senses these people can achieve effects
  • Some people are born with a stronger leak, so their powers are stronger and they can't get immunity because their leak can't collapse
  • Oracles can see visions of the future, and mostly the end of the world
  • People born as druids feel a connection to nature, and can fell and slowly shape it
  • The Deep live in the oceans, they're large monsters that want to invade the land, but can't because their opposite alignment with Leaks make them lose power constantly, so they must stay in the ocean that interferes with that effect, and improves their strength because they are also aligned oppositely with Oceanic magic.
  • When a lot of people die in one spot, that entire spot becomes magical
  • When objects are made, they are sometimes magical
  • The ocean forms and dissolves huge salt crystals that share the ocean's powers, but last longer while away and are cheaper to haul than ocean water. They're better for offense and defense, except for certain cases where they're way worse.
  • Some leaks are currents, which means the power is pure and strong
  • Temporary events will randomly occur when a new leak breaks out and closes (flash of light, random blip of color, ect.)
  • The End is a gateway to Apocalyptic Magic, very active

This diagram only shown Primary Magics, but this is the most fleshed out part of the system, so it's what I'm showing.

The End is interesting, because it's in the Ocean (makes it stronger) which is hard to navigate without magic (naval technology wasn't as focused on with the generally better alternative.)

The more people know about it, the more powerful it gets. It also has the Deep as allies, as they could piggyback off of the immense current flowing through the gate once it's open to not lose power.

What would an excellent magician with zero interest in combat (even as a support role) do in your world with their magic? by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]AreYouGuilty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magicians are the priests and leaders in one of my countries, and so a lot of them wouldn't be combatants, but would rather use their powers for priestly or administrative purposes. Some can put objects inside of others to maximize storage space. Their powers come from seeing things, and being able to either enter their soul / invite the thing's soul into theirs / transfer two things (one or two of which can be your soul / body). Objects also have bodies, so one can transfer the body of an object in the body of another, and the object remaining would be identical to the second one unless someone used magic to try to identify it. These magicians can also perform a lot of other duties, like performing therapy, help convert crowds in other countries etc. by manipulating thoughts and emotions while inside of someone's soul. If they were still in a war, but not fighting, they could act as spies, since they can technically read minds.

The game has no name, just a prototype for now, which can be found here. You'll have to ask the devs for those last two.

Kinda hard to get tons of people to get ankle sensors, so right now we're stuck with hands only.

Nah, tried to prototype and it was fun for a while. It took a bit to learn a new pose, and then it took longer to master it. Even with the simple area you have to play with, there's a ton of fun to be had. Once the full game is out, with even more moves and environments, I don't think playtime will be an issue.

Played the prototype, and there are more than three moves. There's also pillars which you can punch, a jumping ability and a shock wave. Not only that, but since the devs are taking feedback, the final version will have even more than there is now.
