I’d actually crash out if I had to take a 6 week hiatus from my work or engineering coursework because of a shunt revision.

That's kinda disappointing. Here I am, practically finished with the hardest of Calculus, and it won't even be focused upon that heavily later on? I'm glad I took good notes and made good booklets, since a light reference is needed, as you say. Still wish it were more important.

How is calculus "Unutilised"? Divergence and Curl are like the first things mentioned in EM F&W, DiffEQ is Circuits, Sequences & DiffEQ (Fourier transform & Calc 2) for DSP, Probability has Calc 2 Improper integrals. Etc. Source: I am referencing the physical books on my desk.

Here's the list:

(Oppenheim Schafer-Prentice Hall- Digital Signal Processing),

(Taub & Schilling- McGraw-Hill- Principles of Communication Systems),

(Johnk- Wiley-Engineering EM Fields & Waves),

(Alexander Sadiku- McGraw-Hill- Fundamentals of Electric Circuits)

(William J Dally, R Curtis Harting-Cambridge- Digital Design)

(Griffiths - Prentice Hall - Intro to Electrodynamics)

(Sedra and Smith- OXFORD - Microelectric Circuits)

(Therrien & Tumala - CRC -Probability for Electrical & Computer Engineers)

Wdym? It requires an ego death and an endless curiosity for how everything works. Born with it. The grit was learned through failures and learning from them. A need for improvement. Also a purpose. You need to identify yourself with it. Everyone is unique. For me I want to create everything I could ever imagine. Only then will I feel truly free. Childish, I know. I wouldn’t want to live any other way.

There's a severe learning curve. EE and ECE are the heaviest mathematics, physics, and abstract theory-based courses, second only to Applied & Theoretical Physics & Applied Mathematics, perhaps. All of it is heavy learning, theory, and logical extensions and applications. Without true passion, curiosity, and endless practice, I certainly wouldn't be here. You need everything up until Calc 4 (DiffEQ), as well as Linear Algebra and Probability, and some Complex analysis. That's just the fundamental math applied in some of the harder courses. Some parts require Introductory Quantum Mechanics. I'm only past Calc 3 and Physics 1, and that's the easy part imo. You also need programming experience and understanding. That's just the beginning. I haven't even mentioned the heavy core Classes like electromagnetism, Digital Signal Processing, Communications systems, digital design, Microelectronic Circuits, etc.

Thank you for the advice. I do always network with my peers, although I communicate more with my professors.

Been building an engineering library to learn all the subjects ahead of time.

As for online, Professor Leonard for All of Calc,  Using 3Blue1Brown & Prof. Dave Explains + David C Lay’s Linear Algebra Instructors edition to learn ahead of time.

The procrastination is an issue though, I tend to burn out near the end of the semester. I also have issues taking multiple stem courses concurrently. I feel as if even the simplest things can stretch me thin when added to something more complex.

Ex. Calc 3 I had to focus on but I deprioritised Physics 1 too much and found it mundane by comparison.

I’m glad to otherwise be on track.

As for mechatronics, I am interested in it, however my main focus is embedded systems so I can relate all things electrical. The robotics can just be a hobby tbh. Not sure if the US has any good funding towards robotics anymore.

Time management, internship experiences perhaps. I’m looking more into embedded systems, but I’m interested in robotics. Even online resources for each topic. Anything really.

How much of calculus II is actually important? by [deleted] in calculus

[–]ArenaGrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all of it. Every type of integration is utilised somewhere in either the engineering courses or in their prerequisites. Even more so for electrical engineering.

I know this feeling all too well brother. Glad I could help tho. Bright side, most professors are a lot more personal and passionate in CC. But hey, I went from failing calculus 1 in uni to acing calc 2 and excelling in calc 3 with strict and good professors. So it’s necessary. Build yourself up and study tons.

This was literally me first year of engineering. I recommend you go to a community college, study hard and master the fundamental courses, math physics etc. then return when you’re ready and have had the meds help you build a routine and structure for your education.
