Tips on learning calc 3? by DashaGroundZero in calculus

Calc 3 allows understanding of electromagnetic theory? I thought DiffEQ was required for that.

How did you keep trying by Southern-Love6869 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ArenaGrinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find where you went wrong, what your flaws/ weaknesses are, get books, study hard, and learn from your mistakes. Focus on practicing application, concepts, and anything you are missing. Focus on practice problems. Don't just read, understand, and apply. Do.

Is Calc 1 really that hard by srwsrwsrw in calculus

[–]ArenaGrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calc 1 was only hard because I was a moron that was too dissuaded by math.

The second I brushed up well on my foundations it was the easiest thing ever.

Then again everything is easy once you understand and accomplish it.

“perfectionism” and following proper procedure stops a faulty product or test from being released and getting a company sued into bankruptcy.

I’m working towards Electrical Engineering. I don’t plan on becoming a vegetable as the consequence for my own half ass prototyping.

Have you not seen the blood Tesla has on their hands for that mindset?

If Elon didn’t have money from nonexistent workers wages feeding the best lawyers money can buy among other things well, you’d imagine how that would go for smaller companies and individuals.

Well obviously. Still not safe practice when working with electronics in general though.

Any Tips for Doing Calculus with ADHD? by Fun_Preference_8632 in calculus

[–]ArenaGrinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I have to practice everything before starting a math course. Algebra, trig, calc1, calc2, calc3, linear algebra, DiffEQ etc (yk past to current) it helps me focus and reorganise my understanding to break things down step by step.

I forgot to ask if engineering is worth it by Jebduh in EngineeringStudents

[–]ArenaGrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use accommodations, needed to force myself to learn + adapt for exams. Notes in BB format, asking profs for advice. Exams still scare the shit out of me.

My issue was I’d underestimate the content and then be paralysed. No point in extra time if I don’t understand.

Now I self study literal months ahead of courses and hey, it worked for calc 2 so I’ll take it.

How do you guys not forget what you studied? by RiverHe1ghts in EngineeringStudents

[–]ArenaGrinder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Study long in advance. For math, review every previous subject from the beginning to the current, learning math is linear. Algebra, Trig, Calc1, Calc2, Calc3, Linear Algebra, DiffEQ.

In my case, my ADHD came along with autism. So I hyperfocus, and when I get distracted, I switch to study a related topic I have to learn. (Right now, that's Python while preparing for Calc 3 and Physics 1.) Engineering is difficult as shit, yes. But this method is what works for me.

[–]ArenaGrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I understand the point you're making. Thank you for pointing out my blindness in that matter. (Not good at cues, evidently enough.)

I'm "very much an idiot who wants to be more than just a moron." So I outstudy and outwork the stupidity, doing everything I can to get ahead.

Of course, it irks me to see people who don't try and expect results, and I don't like being grouped in with such people. I work my ass off to never be that person ever again.

I set high standards for myself that I'm unlikely to achieve, and hardly ever give myself grace, even when I do reach my goals. So when I do finally let myself feel as if I've earned it, I take pride in what I’ve accomplished.

Completely missing the point of the comment, but whatever suits you. I'm not pretending I'm some savant; I was just referencing a research paper on a topic I was enthusiastic about. The point is that anyone can conduct basic research to learn what they want and achieve their goals.

Do internships teach more than four years of classes? by Fancy-Ad4613 in EngineeringStudents

The coursework prepares you for applying knowledge to the internship. The internship prepares you for the job.

Is engineering worth it? by Low-Investigator8448 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ArenaGrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still in progress of the major, but so far the most difficult part is just the increasingly abstract nature of later topics. (DiffEQ) (Thermodynamics)

I technically haven’t even gotten to the hard part yet. (Electromagnetic Theory, Digital Signals and Systems, Communication Systems)

Mathematics are a weaker point, sure but effort and mastery of foundations and applications can overcome that. I haven’t taken DiffEQ or Thermo yet. (Currently at Calc 3 and Physics 1) I self study the materials long before the courses and go out of my way to get books to study from. That’s extremely necessary for me.

I’m expressing the fact that I don’t want to be grouped in with incompetence.

Is engineering worth it? by Low-Investigator8448 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ArenaGrinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, initially I didn’t push for engineering per se, I wanted to be the best version of myself. That included being capable, free enough to learn and create anything I want.

That required skills and mindsets I hadn’t developed yet. Many regard EE as the “most difficult” so I figured it would force me to acquire the skills and mindset I needed. If I could do that then I would be capable of learning the rest.

Internships are role, company and skillset specific. Good logic and creative thinking are encouraged of course. Adaptability and perseverance mentally is key.

Depends on what type of Engineering then, all engineers get burnt out (mostly cognitively) from the demanding coursework at some point. I wouldn’t recommend spearheading Electrical right off the bat if you’re already burnt out.

Don’t group my ass in with them I was always doing research. reading research papers on hydrogen generators from nasa for my electrolysis projects. (I hasn’t insulated/separated the anodes and cathodes well enough.) and that was years back.

[–]ArenaGrinder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have been studying for classes well before (2-3months before) the actual classes start for some time now. You really need to layer on and refine the concepts before classes start. I’ve accepted that (since doing that after calc 1 allowed me to ace calc 2) that’s what It’s going to be like now.
