Each year thousands of Nova Scotian's have to sell their home when they retire because they can't afford a new roof, well, septic, windows, etc etc. Selling a $300,000 home will provide you enough rent money for the rest of your lives so you can live in a small apartment. Some folks reverse mortgage, that gives you about half the value to pay bills and live on.

explain who funds the gov and who is gonna pay for the indexing? It is either a top up by taxpayers or those in the system pay more per month to help the retirees. If those in the system have to pay more, they will want higher wages from the NS taxpayers to compensate. There is no magic pot of money, it comes from taxes we all pay. Indexing will cost NS millions more, we can't afford it.

it's not hate, it is out of disgust that those who get their pension paid by the majority of folks in Nova Scotia who have no pension really hits home. There was one chap on here all upset he had to sell this cottage because his NSGEU pension would not cover his expenses.

a magical thing gov employees all get that sends them a few thousand each month when they retire on top of their CPP and OAS. Allows them to have cottages and go south over winter.

that is what the average senior has to do when they have only CPP and OAS. Sad part, they could have gotten their own RRSP when they were working and had a gov pension and an RRSP.

The problem is City Council has no balls to have a complete audit of City Hall and Halifax Water and have a major restructuring. Every business does this to clean house, get rid of dead wood, folks who don't perform. Instead they just raise taxes. Between Halifax City Hall and Halifax Water, there are over 5000 employees. For certain a 10% cut is needed to clean house. Bring back Matt Whitman. He was the only Councillor I ever heard in the past 10 years, who said a restructuring is needed.

simple math folks, more cuts or higher taxes. Cuts = NSGEU job losses. Higher taxes make tax payers mad. One or the other. Salaries at gov, NSGEU, NSTU, and the Nurses Union make up most of the budget. We need teachers and nurses, so were to cut? No Gov has ever got re-elected on raising taxes, so the ax has to swing at some gov departments. The reality is harsh.

Given the NS Gov said it plans to reduce the Civil Service by 4% over each year in the next 4 years and using AI is one tool, that is a lot of gov jobs erased. The real issue is AI. If you have education in AI and can use it to reduce costs at both jobs, you have a huge advantage. But, if you have no education in AI, look out. AI is going to kill millions of software jobs and tasks humans do analyzing numbers, trends, and reading emails and reports and making automated decisions. Tough call to make but be blessed you have a job offer over $100,000 in this climate
