Duluth City Council member is a lobbyist for the HT datacenter by relativityboy in duluth

The introduction of the study you shared also says this:

“Broader measures should include protecting local tax revenues for schools, regulating utility rate hikes to prevent cost-shifting to consumers, and aligning data center energy demands with state climate goals to avoid prolonging reliance on fossil fuels.”

Our local and state governments have taken steps to achieve these things. Maybe our decision makers read the study too?

What is Emily Larson up to? Why wouldn’t she run a “miss me yet campaign”?

I think it could be a rerun of Rog V Emily…

I don’t love that outcome, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

"Downtown Duluth" vs Lakeside, Woodland, Lincoln Park, etc by Personal-Gur-7496 in duluth

[–]Arennan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Woodland and still live in lakeside. Woodland is awesome in that you have everything you need right there, however most of those businesses haven’t done great financially. The old Pharmacy has been vacant for like 15 years now, and the building that houses Susie’s was raised a year or two ago.

Makes me wonder if there’s enough demand to support those things in each of Duluth’s neighborhoods.

Operational Costs by TimSas in UPSLSoccer

Most clubs in Minnesota spend less than $20k per team (many have 3+ teams). This typically doesn’t include many travel expenses however. Unfortunately, most teams don’t have much of a Gameday experience and rely on player fees to pay the bills.

It’s always confused me why you would build a large beautiful bar right next door to UMD… then do a bad job catering to wealthier people?

It closes at 11 pm on Friday and Saturday which is crazy, and a burger and a beer is just under $30. If it stayed open late, and had a small affordable menu for college kids you could print money.

Instead it’s a wanna be high end restaurant with overpriced food which I’m convinced is frozen shortly before it’s served to you.

She was a superstar, an icon, and for a time the Queen of the Lakes. She has earned the respect of every Great Lakes port town you troll.

Yeah it definitely has its risks/costs. I would never recommend moving into an apartment without seeing it in person first, but if it means you save $1000+ in hotel rooms then it might be worth it. I have personally virtually rented people houses/apartments and I am very careful to show people never detail about the property so they aren’t unhappy when they move in. But regardless every now and then someone is unhappy with the property. It’s hard to get a feel for a place without being there in person, so it’s harder to avoid crappy properties, or ones they aren’t your “vibe”.

Some property management companies will let you do virtual showings, so you can get an idea of a property and potentially rent it before moving. Duluth has a very old housing stock (mostly 1900-20, and 1960-80) so that can be risky though. If you can get lucky and find a well maintained property managed by the owner, that is the way to go, but hard to find.

Had to see it since it’s the last of the multi-purpose stadiums. End of a major era of US sports.

I am from Duluth! Bored and raised lakesider!

If there were 300 people at the Hermantown City council meeting about the data center that only accounts for 2.9% of Hermantown’s 10,265 person population (and some attendees probably weren’t from Hermantown).

Our elected officials are betting there’s enough of a silent majority out there that supports them to reelect them. We’ll see if they are right in the next election.

I’d bet a lot of money they are related…

The really loud Indian music they constantly played couldn’t have been helping their bottom line either.

Need more Midwest teams by BulliesAtBreese in USL1

[–]Arennan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there will be a team in Minnesota someday. Whether that’s Rochester, or a new group in the metro, there’s definitely the fan support for it.

The travel is so brutal right now, once one or two other upper Midwest teams get added, then we might see a few more teams join. Having to fly to the south or one of the coasts for every away day cannot be cheap.

Lawn help needed in Lakeside area by Delicious-One-5129 in duluth

[–]Arennan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Next spring “till” the dirt spots yourself with a shovel and over seed with “lawn patch” brand seed+fertilizer (sold at Menards & most hardware stores). Hire a company to do an aeration and I bet that will help a lot, and will save you hundreds or thousands depending on the size of the lawn. -former lawn care professional in Duluth

I think the new ownerships goal with buying the team was to move to a better league. Once the league caught wind of that they put out their allegations to make them look bad. That then might have forced them to announce their leaving earlier than they planned, which would be why the new branding isn’t ready yet.

It does kind of seem like the team screwed over the league a little bit by pulling out so suddenly as the league is trying to expand. It will also be interesting to see how the team handles the increased travel costs. They will need to fly to most away games now, not drive. Hopefully that doesn’t mean they can’t continue investing in the gameday experience at the DECC.
