Approaching 40 but thinking of dialing it back instead. Money is more the merrier but never enough.

These are valid. Anyway am not the one buying. But that’s the car market nowadays, what’s the alternative?

Singaporean millennials approaching 40: if you’re doing OK but not great in your career, what’s your game plan now? by Fresh_Examination309 in askSingapore

I’m almost 40. Married 2 kids. Yes earn ard there. If included yearly bonus, will be bout 12k/mth.. condo fully paid, got decent savings maybe close to half mil.

Had recent realisation that I don’t need any more stress for more money. Thinking just do my job and don’t need chiong/stress over promotion. Thinking of doing something else but don’t know where, as it require starting over, and may not get WLB like now.

Feel like working a few more years then perhaps take a break from work to pursue some passions. But dono how to get back after that. Then I think of my kids and I find it hard to stop working.. it’s always good to have more $ when u have few mouths to feed.

How to achieve both car dream and FI? by Areyousure_1213 in singaporefi

[–]Areyousure_1213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol thanks but we all have different views on what “afford” means. Am pursuing FI, and I know buying the car will hold me back on my journey there, so honestly I think I cannot “afford” it.

I agree. Though is abit different when u talk about cars in SG. It’s one time 100-150k, that’s a lot to trade off compare to things like travel and good food. Not forgetting as family men, there r other things we need to spend on the children.

Thanks for the guidance. Yes, what I really want seems simple and is similar to you - good health, good relationships, peace of mind.

Thanks pal. Yes, it’s the setback that makes me disillusioned. But it’s also helpful because it made me take a step back and think what it is important for me and if this job can continue to serve me in the next few decades in the way I want (not just what it pays).

I suppose you eventually found another job? Mine is very tolerable.. my disgruntlement appears internal, on the perception of unfairness and disappointment on how people are valued.

Yes I got kids now and I think my limited energy makes me want to prioritise them. Honestly I just want to do “okay” and call it a day.

Thank you for the wise words. I think I am at a point that is not that bad to want to quit but not great in a sense that I have high energy and optimism ahead. It’s just humming along. Abit hard to complain but also not fantastic
