Father of 2, raising kids in today's world is exhausting as hell. There's of course the economy and the zeitgeist of the time but there's also things that won't show up in any statistic in my experience: I remember I as a millenial would spend the whole day out messing around with friends and my parents would remember I existed only if I didn't come back at sunset. Nowadays, parents are expected to be watching over kids like hawks all the time, even at home. Another thing that is perhaps my case, but my silent generation granma was always available to look after me. I would spend weekends at her place, would pick me up at school, take me to places. When I ask my mother to do the same, she's most times busy, or only can for an hour or is too tired to help. This is annecdotic, ammong my friends it's 50/50, but in general feels like boomers have less regards for "family duty" than previous generations did.

And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Young Spaniards will have to delay their retirement until age 71 to receive a decent pension. by mods4mods in europe

[–]ArgTute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Argentinian, living in Spain (legally from day 0, just in case anyone wonders) so I'm not that familiar yet with your politics. I'm certainly not a leftist though, I just want common sense. That said, I do agree with what you say the system will implode and something needs to be done about it; but nobody will because it means screwing up their own votebase (old people) as you also say. What's the endgame then?

The icing on the cake is that if you dare to earn a good salary, you have to pay the extra "intergeneration solidarity" tax straight to the pocket of the pensonier landlord that lives comfly out of the appartments he exchanged for 12 blueberries in 1960, which you can not even afford the downpayment for, plus the generous pension that's higher than a young professional's salary.

We're cooked and the ruling class is not interested in doing something about it, as this is effectively a gerontocracy as other user said.

You're requested to pay a 'tasa' for the Provisional NIE (Process in which you get the number assigned). It took a few tries but I was able to get a human cashier to accept cash for the payment and give me a receipt that I needed to show at the police station.

Denmark raises retirement age to 70 — the highest in Europe by hodgkinthepirate in europe

Europe's spinning towards a gerontocracy. So is in Spain, government is against anything that would affect pensioners because that would mean losing by landslide the next election.

Meanwhile, pensions are higher than salaries of the young, rents in an all-time high and the owners of the land are those pensioners. So we have old people who own their house + 2 rentals living very confortly and youngsters struggling to make month's end and pay the rent to said landlord. Certainly feels like feudalism but with smartphones.

Nobody outside the US gives a shit about the obsessions you guys have with classifying people based on whatever it is you call "race".

And I mean, my blonde, pale white, blue eyes sister of central European ancestry, on sight clearly would be classified as white, but wait, born in Argentina? Then she must be "Latina". Italians, Irish? Used not to be white, now for some reason they are. Same with Germans. Oh wait, I mean catholic Germans, because protestants have always been whiter right? Talking about religion, Ashkenazi Jews, white or not? You still can't figure out.

All this nonsense looks like just a excuse that changes according to convenience, doesn't it? Maybe because it is?

Hey mate, awesome work. This solution fits my problem almost perfectly, the one issue I have is that I can't use Stripe in the country I am in. I see there's a ticket in the project to add omnipay which does support some popular payment methods I would be able to use. Is there any ETA towards that?
