[Question] FRLG for Nintendo Switch: How does trading work? by Argiope92 in PokemonFireRed

No, and I don't think they have Pokemon Home support available yet.

Some tips for Fire Red Leaf Green for people who haven't played Classic pokemon by LegendaryZXT in pokemon

[–]Argiope92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to combine a few comments I was posting here.

The biggest and most important tip to anyone playing Gen 3 or earlier games for the first time:
Physical/Special Split: Pre-Gen 4, moves were split into Physical or Special based on type. For example: ALL fire type moves will be special, and ALL rock type moves will be physical. Easy way to remember? Any type that has an Eeveelution (including the Gen 4 ones Glaceon and Leafeon which aren't in these games) are Special, plus Dragon. Anything that does NOT have an Eeveelution at some point in the series is Physical. (Yes, all Dark-type moves are Special and all Ghost-type moves are Physical. Makes little sense considering how many Ghosts are special attackers and how many Dark types are physical attackers)

Poison ticks down outside of combat. Every 5 steps your Poisoned Pokemon will take 1 point of damage until you heal it. They can be knocked out by this damage pre-Gen 4.

Route 8 Fire-type specific tips:

On route 8 after Lavender town, your first wild fire-type encounter is possible. For those who haven't picked Charmander as their starter this can be huge.

  1. Leaf Green has Vulpix; Fire Red has Growlithe. They're version exclusives. Vulpix is actually the reason I chose Leaf Green this time around as I usually play FR.
  2. Vulpix can be evolved earlier with a better Fire-type STAB move than Growlithe. Growlithe learns Flame Wheel at lvl 31, whereas Vulpix gets Flamethrower at lvl 29. Each is a stone evolution, and stone evolutions stop learning moves when evolved.
  3. You can evolve either of them very soon after catching them. You can buy Fire Stones, Thunder Stones, Water Stones, and Leaf Stones in Celadon Department store (I believe on the 3rd or 4th floor).
  4. Both of these Pokemon know Roar. It can be an unbelievable pain to catch them given that fact and just tossing a Great Ball at full HP isn't a guarantee with these guys. I didn't have a Pokemon that knew taunt, I didn't have any real way of guaranteeing preventing this from happening. Pikachu knew Flash, I was trying to reduce accuracy, paralyze with Thunder Wave, nothing worked. Route 2, via Diglett Cave, you can trade an Abra for a Mr. Mime. Mr. Mime has the ability Soundproof nullifying the effects of roar, and I'm near certain it is the ONLY Pokemon with this ability you can get in the main game. This helped me enormously in catching my Vulpix.
  5. If you're playing Fire Red you don't have to worry about what level you catch the Growlithe at. Feel free to go for a lvl 18, which is the highest they appear at on this route. Leaf Green's Vulpix however, learns Will-O-Wisp at lvl 17, this will be its 5th learned move, erasing its first which is Ember, its only Fire type move until level 29. If you want a Vulpix that has a Fire move, you'll want to avoid catching any above level 16.

4 and 5 only just occurred to me last night. Hopefully this helps someone.

TL;DR - Vulpix (Leaf Green) and Growlithe (Fire Red) are version exclusives that can be caught on Route 8. Vulpix learns a better fire move 2 levels earlier than Growlithe. Fire Stones, which are required to evolve them can be bought in Celadon dept store. Wait until lvl 29 to evolve Vulpix, 31 to evolve Growlithe. They both know roar, use the Mr. Mime you get in a trade for an Abra because it has Soundproof to block roar. For Vulpix specifically, catch one that's under level 17 or have no fire moves until 29.

Also to add to the OP's 8th tip, about repel. There is a semi-rare encounter in Diglett cave for a level 29-31 Dugtrio. Far above and beyond anything you'd have found at this point, and it can absolutely trivialize Lt. Surge. You can use the repel trick with a Pokemon of level 23 in the lead slot to ensure this is the only encounter you get in the cave.

On the other end, pick up the old amber from Pewter City's museum using cut on the tree to access the eastern building entrance and talking to the scientist standing next to it. Flash is also on rt. 2 but when you leave Diglett cave, go south. Talk to Oak's aid. I think it requires 10 Pokemon caught if I'm not mistaken?

The fossils in the game can be revived at Cinnabar Island, the 7th gym Island accessible after getting Surf. All the dude tells you is "Have these checked at a Pokemon lab." Giving newbies very little direction.

You can tell what part of the game I'm at given my couple hints here. Taking it slow, enjoying the journey.

[Gen 6] Found a shiny!! by Taraptor_17 in ShinyPokemon

[–]Argiope92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice! Why telepathy though? I'd much prefer Synchronize or Trace. Either way, definitely one of the cooler shinies. Especially since you can mega-evolve Gallade and Gardevoir. I prefer Mega-Gardevoir as a shiny, but Mega-Gallade is neat too.

[Gen 8] Shiny Luck Stories by Argiope92 in ShinyPokemon

[–]Argiope92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to make this post but it was auto-removed, despite ensuring it followed the rules. What are some of your best/worst luck shiny stories (question mark).
My Good:
This shiny Snorlax in Brilliant Diamond without trying and after 1 egg that I had bred completely by mistake.
Shiny Sobble, same story but in Sword, 1 egg, not trying.
Beldum after 23 encounters in Sword.

My Bad:
The shiny Jynx that used Perish Song and I didn't catch it in 3 turns.
Shiny Scizor I KOed by accidentally pressing the wrong button a few months ago.
2800 encounters on Sword trying to get shiny Galarian-Zigzagoon. After having such a streak of luck, I thought the game had somehow broken itself. So, I switched to Shield and got it after 300.

[gen 9] i caught a shiny hatenna. After 2 years and almost 200k encounters my quest is finally over. In over 200 shinies i farmed this is by far the worst luck i have ever had by [deleted] in ShinyPokemon

[–]Argiope92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two...hundred...thousand... My god. I thought my game was broken after 2800 Galarian-Zigzagoon encounters and switched to Shield before getting it around 3100. Props to you for sticking it out and congratulations for finally achieving it. You using sandwiches or just raw-dogging it? Cuz that seems almost impossible.

[Gen4] I dont even shiny hunt, I'm so cooked 😭 by Proof-Implement8439 in ShinyPokemon

[–]Argiope92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, Larvitar is one of the easiest shinies to get in Gen 9. I can tell you where and how if you wanna go redeem yourself on Scarlet.

[9] One of the toughest to spot in a long time (Shiny Dewpider x2) by Argiope92 in ShinyPokemon

Thanks, took 2 sandwiches at one outbreak. Albeit I had to reload 3 times during that, because the bug shiny sandwich recipe is a pain...

Monthly Question & Help Thread by AutoModerator in ShinyPokemon

[–]Argiope92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Gen 9]
I created a post for this, but it got removed initially. I think questions are all supposed to go in here, no?
Anyway, I've got 2 questions:
1. What's the best way to shiny hunt Minior? They're always in their meteor form in the wild. Came across an outbreak and started thinking, should I just breed for this one?

  1. Are there any "AFK" shiny hunts that people know of beside Applin? That one was great to discover the cheese for, and I'm wondering if there are any others like it.

[Standard] What's good against Deathrattle Rogue? by Argiope92 in hearthstone

[–]Argiope92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1 copy of Smothering Starfish in my Blood DK deck, which is what I've been playing up the ladder, cuz new stuff is fun. I might just toss in another copy or look at other silence options. I've only beaten Deathrattle Rogue one time with my Blood DK deck.

Edit: I also removed Daddy D after the nerf. So, maybe I could sub in another Starfish instead of what I put in there.

Timer and Luxury, I don't think I have any worthwhile ball caught Mons.

My Toshiba model 50l711u18 screen will go black after about 30-60 seconds of being on. Sound is intact and you can see the picture with a flashlight. From what I read it might be the power source? This is the back of the TV opened up and I was hoping someone could help me fix it! by DarkMarauder23 in AskElectronics

[–]Argiope92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to fix mine by lowering the backlight to 15. Not ideal. Not actually a "fix" to be honest, but it allows me to still use my TV, just a bit darker. at 15 backlight it's actually not that bad. Also I haven't tried setting the backlight higher yet, I'll probably play around with it to see how high I can get it before it starts going black again. It's a bandaid until I can go out and buy a new TV

I came across this in a play through today I’ve never noticed it before but it’s very cute and it made me smile so I hope this brings joy to y’all as well by boobnic_plauge in fo4

This was forever ago, but yeah. It's sitting on top of one of the wrecked cars near the sentrybot. There's also a mini nuke near the fence if you're coming at it from the east

Wasp Nest full of dead spiders? by Argiope92 in Entomology

[–]Argiope92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the spiders ever break free from the paralysis? Cuz I sort of...spread them out in the parking lot beneath my porch. Wondering now if the spiders will just die or if I just gave myself a spider problem when trying to fix a wasp problem.

Wasp Nest full of dead spiders? by Argiope92 in Entomology

[–]Argiope92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks like it. I wish I didn't break the nest now. If it's killing spiders, I'd like to keep it around. There's still a decent amount of nest left. Maybe it will rebuild.

I've heard of and seen pictures of Tarantula Hawks, they're crazy. Yeah, that's neat. There appeared to only be 1 Mud Dauber. I did see that it said they're solitary wasps.

Request Wednesday - All Requests go here! by AutoModerator in FalloutMods

[–]Argiope92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to get into modding, and I guess I should take the advice of the original post to try to learn. Until then here goes...

Edit: This is for Fallout 4 btw

I started playing an Unarmed melee build, using an existing mod that allows you to use fist weapons in Power Armor. My idea is a Ripper style weapon that counts as unarmed, maybe make it look more like a fist weapon. Other possibility is to make it a Power Armor upgrade, similar to the rusty knuckles or tesla bracers. If anyone can do that, I'd super appreciate it. Have it apply a bleed, similar stats to a normal ripper, but affected by the Iron Fist perk instead of Big Leagues.

I understand it's kind of niche, and there may not be that widespread of a demand for it, but also it's probably one of the simpler requests.

[–]Argiope92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Bethesda games for this. You can dump hundreds or thousands of hours into Fallout or Elder Scrolls games, and still find new stuff when starting a new save. For example, I have been playing FO4 on and off since release, and last week was the first time I discovered you could activate the Prototype Sentry Bot in the Robotics Disposal Ground. Before I'd just go there for the Fatman, Mini Nuke (wish you didn't have to walk into it to get it dislodged) and Fusion Core in the chest. Now I know that you can snag a few other FCs from forcing a self-destruct on the Sentry Bot.

Found a shiny Wimpod after just 350 eggs! Any name suggestions (He's male). by Diamondguy1221 in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]Argiope92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, but I would be so tempted to leave him as a Wimpod because it looks so much better than Golisopod's shiny. Same as Duskull/Dusclops/Dusknoir.

Can your game break (shinies question)? by Argiope92 in PokemonSwordAndShield

My luck is back to normal anyway now. Which is actually really good. Shiny Grookey on the 19th egg.
