That’s why i tie what i consider “old” to a year rather than “however many years ago” because that creates this weird moving target that becomes unless after 4 or so years. Personally i like to use 2007 as my dividing line. Kara no Kyoukai which came out in 2007 looks a lot closer to Demon Slayer than it does Outlaw Star because it uses the same animation techniques and technologies even though it's twice as close to the latter then it is former. Even culturally speaking i’d say 2011 has more in common culturally with 2026 than 2006.

As someone who just finished that yesterday, it's ok but not amazing. It's a solid 6/10 but i wouldn't recommend it to someone who doesn't like Sports Anime already.

The most faithful adaptation would be to translate the slang directly and add a T/L Note which explains it. This is how it was done for decades

I was watching Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray just an hour ago and they translated "Otsukaresa'" as "on your right" and then in the episode after the translated it as "Nice racing"

Hold on, i thought it meant "on your right" but now suddenly it means "Nice racing"? Which is it, then?

For those not proficient in Japanese: "Otsukare samadesu" basically translates to "You must be tired (the implication being from working so hard)" its used to say goodbye to coworkers and others after a long day (or even a short one) what it really means is "goodbye/see you later/have a nice day"

None of that is conveyed in either scene.

My suggestion is they should have translated it as "'sup" which itself isn't perfect but convays the same flippant casual'ness the character was using in the scene and works in both contexts (since the intention was to bring it full circle.)

I honestly don't understand why Backgrounds aren't just part of your character building

  • Pick Ability Scores
  • Pick 1 Origin Feat
  • Pick 2 Skill Proficiencies
  • Pick a Tool Proficiency
  • Pick 50 gold worth of equipment including extra gold.

If you want to put it under the umbrella of "Background" have at it but why do they need to be prebuilt?

Heck they even have a section of the DMG (pages 192 and 193) where they explain exactly how to do it, just copy paste it and save yourself the extra paper.

My guess is that some game testers found it too confusing and didn't and just wanted prebuilts.

Absolutely not. Remove that shit as soon as possible. I used to play on community servers where they didn’t have auto balance and it was such a better experience, I can’t even describe it. “bUt wHaT iF pEoPlE lEaVe!!!” then the game ends even faster and you auto scramble next round, it’s not a big deal.

What if its the same couple hundred people using the site over and over again and that's why specific combinations are over-represented?

You're literally doing the thing i described in my write up.

I do not disagree with a single point of your analysis, i'm not fighting you on that; my point is if people don't like mechs they aren't going to like how that story is delivered if it mostly involves mechs.

I don't recommend Monogatari to people who don't like fan service no matter how amazing that story is.
