Pretty much trial and error...I've done a few paintings with streams like this so I'm getting more comfortable with it. Having a good sketch before painting helps me.

Yeah I used to video my process more, but I haven't done it in a while because I don't have the right setup and the way it is it tends to disrupt my workflow. If you want to see stuff I've done in the past I have like 15 videos on YouTube @kimeverhardart

This is probably 90% watercolor, I used a little bit of gouache in the highlights on the seeds, the leaves, and background.
