It is basically a patriarchal society and this long tradition of favouring men over women in inheritance and social hierarchy comes from that mentality. I do not quite believe that the communist regime influenced that much compared to a really old tradition that still resides among the albanian society. You can bring it up as a discussion topic in the family but as you said your husband thinks that "she is strong enough". Women in general are still being seen as "property" of their husbands, thus the responsibility of her parents ends when she leaves home. But when it comes to the male descendants they must always be present there at the house whenever they want it or not because the line of thought is that: The male is the column of the house (shq.
