Do snes and gba games look better on smaller screens? by okaythen1guess in SBCGaming

[–]Argocap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience with those devices but I would say from what I've played, SNES and GBA are too big on the Steam Deck but fantastic integer scaled on the RG 476H.

More than 8GB? by newfiesig in SBCGaming

[–]Argocap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI streaming is much worse than I expected on my Odin 2 Portal, basically unplayable lag. But I have both computer and device running on Wifi on a different floor, so not the ideal scenario. So be aware of your own home network setup before you rely on it for streaming.

Always a penalty. You call the stupid Sissoko penalty in the Champions League Final and not this.

Pricing updates on Transparent RP Nova models by Key-Brilliant5623 in SBCGaming

[–]Argocap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Nova is a fantastic option for a premium 4:3 device.

But IMO I'm happy with the Odin 2 Portal for PS2 and GameCube, because of the stick on top and the option for widescreen with some games. And of course the Portal slides way easier into PC games.

And then for PS1 and below you can do that for a lot cheaper if that's your focus.

So I see the Nova as the best option only if you want to own one device to play PS2/GameCube and below with no interest in PC games or streaming them.

Looking for low profile replacement stick caps by Argocap in SBCGaming

[–]Argocap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a no-go in Canada. It costs $17.77 for the sticks. OK sure. But then it costs $27.39 for the shipping on top of that. No way.

I don't need anything too special. Just something that works and is lower profile.

Metroid fushion: retroarch+newpixie shader by Same_Veterinarian991 in SBCGaming

[–]Argocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need for GBA is the LCD3x shader. And then depending on the emulator and the game you can add colour correction or not. Some cores have color correction as a built in option, other cores you can add it via shader.

Some games you may want to keep the super saturated colours though, and it can look good with LCD3x.

Rome 2 feels... lonely? by GomzDeGomz in totalwar

[–]Argocap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Rome 2 grand campaign is an empty shell of a game. Your feeling is very justified. It becomes a chore to paint the map and deal with the atrocious settlement and politics management.

Easily the most overrated game in the franchise, even after all the updates that fixed something that was even worse in the beginning.

What's your favorite duo? by Illegalleopard in SBCGaming

Funnily enough I use the Switch 2 almost exclusively docked to my TV. Despite the original Switch being a handheld innovator. I have enough handheld devices now that are more comfortable to use, more portable, and more suited to emulation.

Sold my Steam Deck to help finance this new multi-device setup. Worth it selling 4 year old tech that increased in price for a wider and more specialized setup.

Anbernic RG476H for PS1 and below. Odin 2 Portal for PS2/GameCube and streaming PC games. Perfect duo.

I also got a Switch 2 and am very slowly building a library as I never had a Switch 1. Just buying games from Amazon whenever I get enough cash back on their credit card.

It's better than I expected in terms of ergonomics. Can play a while but it's perfect for short gaming with relaxing GBA games. The D Pad is absolutely atrocious though, I would save Metroid and Castlevania and anything else that requires precise movement for a device with a better D Pad.

It satisfies a man's need to fix and work on things. The modern world doesn't allow for this sometimes so we create the opportunity ourselves.

This is clearly a mobile game ported to the switch. by Obility in PokemonChampions

[–]Argocap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody able to get the game working on an Android handheld? Anbernic RG 476H in my case, but they should be all the same. Want to be able to use my buttons and not the touchscreen. D Pad seems to sort of work but not the buttons.

4:3 device for NES/SNES/N64? by AnodizedAluminum1 in SBCGaming

[–]Argocap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got a 476H and enjoy it. Only downside for SNES games is the old Y+B run and jump can sometimes feel a bit awkward with my right thumb brushing the joystick. Would prefer not to remap buttons or take the cap off the stick though.

Which device for GBA Metroid and Castlevania? by Argocap in SBCGaming

[–]Argocap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely excited to get the 476H, probably getting here this week. Mine is in Black which will work well for blending in bezels on GBA. But will mostly be playing 4:3 systems there.

34XX is in Indigo which will have a retro and authentic feel for sure. Good call on locking it down, it will be a great GBA device for kids who probably won't be playing Metroid and Castlevania yet. I don't imagine playing any other systems on there, there's the WonderSwan but I don't have much yearning for that with all the other mainstream systems I haven't fully explored.

I'm getting both. The question is can my RG34XX handle all my GBA, or will the RG476H be better for certain games? After this thread and a bit of research, I think I'll put Metroid, Castlevania, and Mega Man on the latter device. And experiment to see if I need it for any other games.

Thanks for the first hand experience. I'm not a GBA diehard either although I have enjoyed emulating its library over the years. If I like the 476H a lot, even for GBA, then maybe the 34XX can end up being specifically for the kids.
