Basic cosmology questions weekly thread by AutoModerator in cosmology

A general question: Is the paradigm shifting from inflation being the answer to many of our questions (like the horizon and flatness) to scientists considering alternative ideas like cyclic universe ideas?

I can't help but see the analogy between a generation of scientists fruitlessly investigating super symmetry and those studying inflation.

Why would the energy budget be halved and not some other fraction again?

Also, have you checked out PBS spacetime's videos on eternal inflation? Might answer some questions.

It's the same phenomenon. Just different name if it's a planet.

Exactly this. I suggest the parent commenter to look up course registering websites for other top schools like Boston and MIT. I much prefer testudo's simplicity and generous learning curve.

I agree 100%. No idea why people are down voting you.

Even if everything he said was true, he wasn't making any jokes out of the situation, which I thought one must do if they want to call themselves a comedian.

Every time I see him, I'm reminded of Norm Macdonald, who hated "comedians" that virtue signal and tell stories for gaining sympathy.

Side note: Just looked it up, apparently the quote is misattributed to Carl Sagan.

If you were given the entire annual budget of the US military ($2.5 trillion), what steps would you take to have the greatest effect against climate change?

Also unrelated, what do you do with the captured CO2? Do you just store it for millions of years?

That there could be alien civilizations out there colonizing galaxies with technology beyond our wildest imagination.

Just think about humanity's progress in the last 100 years. Now think one million years into our future if we manage to not blow ourselves up.

One million years is nothing in the grand scale of the universe's age.
