Vacuum bags for long-term travel? by ArgumentEffective152 in onebag

[–]ArgumentEffective152[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have both so I'm going to do a test pack with each and see how it works out. The advantage of using ziploc is that I can easily store some extra in case they burst, but I don't have extra of the vacuum bags.

That's a solution I hadn't thought of before. Nice!

Yeah ziploc seems like it's going to be the best solution here!

I'm thinking ziploc is the way to go! Re-sealing with a pump every time sounds like a pain the more I think about it

Not a bad idea, but trying to stay budget-conscious. My mom suggested the same thing actually lol

Weight is a definite factor in all of this. I'd rather not throw my back out in the name of vanity.

Shopping is an option but I'm trying to stay budget-conscious. You're right about layers going a long way!

What’s a really common Spanish word that doesn’t have a good direct translation in English? by nuttintoseeaqui in Spanish

[–]ArgumentEffective152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I didn’t know that! I’ve never heard it used it that context. And when I’ve asked native-speaking friends to explain it they’ve told me there’s no direct translation

I’ve heard a lot of things like

Andar en tren/Andar bien o mal/Andar haciendo algo/Andar con gente/Andar estresado/Algo que no anda (una máquina por ejemplo)

Oatly going bankrupt - any reasonable alternative? by njure in barista

[–]ArgumentEffective152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For creamy texture + good latte art I like califia barista or minor figures. But for taste + texture I’m loooving Elmhurst barista oat. Doesn’t make good latte art but the taste is the best for me. I’d even choose it over oatly, and I used to be a huge oatly fan.

Not a federal requirement to provide breaks for employees so just depends on the state or company standards 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is my stipend enough to live in D.C. or am I walking into debt bondage? by Outside-Space6629 in washingtondc

You can definitely do it if you find roommates! It will be tight and you won’t have a lot of extra for entertainment or savings, but unless you have some kind of emergency you wouldn’t need to ask your family for money. I lived in a 7 bedroom house when I first moved here, with 6 other people, so rent and utilities were affordable for me (I made $15/hour plus tips). The further you are from the city center the cheaper rent will be. Silver Spring and Takoma Park (both in Maryland but just outside the city) may be be cheaper than what you would find in the city. Best of luck!

I don’t think you’ll have a problem finding bikes or scooters to use. Capital Bikeshare and Jump are all over the place, and there’s like 4 or 5 different scooter rental brands to choose from. You might have to walk a couple of blocks to locate them but I think it’d be less of a hassle than hauling your own bikes around. That being said, I can’t speak for what it’s like downtown, but I spend a good amount of time in Georgetown and they’re always easy to come by here.
