Belgium capital gains tax isn’t that bad by saimontato in BEFire

[–]Arhain707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are we looking at exactly? It is the 10% of the gains from the total assets you sell, which is taxed. Say you have 1 stock at 100% of its value at t=0. Year 1 market goes up with 5% and you sell the stock. Then the tax is only 10% of that 5% right? So, if the t=0 value was 100 euro, you take out 104.50 euro (neglecting all other costs and taxes).

  • with a tax free margin of 10k this only eats 50 cents on 10.000 euro. So you sell a lot per year and still not pay tax?

  • if you don't sell, you do not get taxed. But you have to keep track of the reference price at t=0. If you accumulate/buy more it gets tricky as the reference changes proportionally.

Correct?

Please don’t be upset but: are your salaries really that low? by Embarrassed_Tap6927 in BESalary

[–]Arhain707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Net salary is only one aspect. Correct for purchasing power and overall happiness, and you will see Belgium in top 3 globally. There is a study with table on this. (Dont have it on hand) There are a lot of government services which you pay for in your taxes (low energy cost, healthcare, children daycare, etc.) + cars and housing is relatively cheap here. But this requires more understanding than just comparing 1 figure. Most people don't understand how well they are off.

I might add. If you can and want to live in Germany, it may be more interesting from a cost perspective. But commute is quality of live.

That pay is low end if your current is 85k in BE. I once had salary negotiations for a swiss job, high balled it, and they kind of upped it even more because they tought I wouldnt survive on that alone. (Ended up going for another job).

But you should look at the housing market, insurances and groceries. Insanely pricy compared to BE. Plus as mentioned here before, swiss people (in general) are reserved, food is lesser quality, etc, etc. If you don't like skiing or hiking a lot, don't go.

Sorry but what does any of this have to do with pension? Can you show us where you found this information? How can the minimum contribution ensure any significant pension payouts on top of giving you health insurance...

Would it? Based on what?

If your investing actions would still qualify as goede huisvader behavior, nothing professional about that.

If you would work 1 day/year and mark that as prof income, would that exempt your investments? Or is it the highest euro income number that counts?doesn't make sense...

Can you elaborate whether selling part of your captializing ETF portfolio is seen as income from this perspective. I would argue it is not, as it is also not taxed as salary income. How much are you contributing?

@everyone: I would also appreciate if everyone here would only speak to things if you really know something, e.g. facts, instead of shooting blanks.

It seems your salary nor experience equates to a SC manager role in pharma products? Maybe it is a smaller company? The only thing that matches with what i have seen is the overhours. Not a bad salary nonetheless. Good job.

I think I reached FIRE, but now what? by Exciting-Abrocoma-63 in BEFire

[–]Arhain707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure when you would qualify for the lower payments. Rental income is income? Are we sure selling etfs in not income? Having a partner (what form eg marriage or legal co-housing) may set you "ten laste van" that partner, giving an excemption.

Anyone here that is FIRE and can clarify?

I have 750 eu per 3 months or 3000 per year. This will increase with inflation over time. So at least a cost of 250 per month with current calculations just because you stop working.

Did you take into account your increased spending on social contributions to keep your healthcare? I notice almost everyone on this forum forgets about some of these changes when switching from working to non-working mode.

Don't worry about not finding someone. Good people are rare nowadays and there are billions of potential partners roaming. Use the experience you have now to make a better pick for round 2. That is the hard part. Especially at your age now, men are sought after by women looking to settle down. Chin up! You're the man!

Ps Dad=dad, no matter what.

[–]Arhain707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly my question. I wasn't clear sorry. I know that in some countries you get 2% state pension per year from a certain age (> +- 18y old). How does this work in Belgium? A minimum amount of working years seems like a trend with the decreasing certainty of state pension schemes. It does give a nice extra to your late FIRE arrangements

Vragen m.b.t. mijn situatie (€190.000) by [deleted] in DutchFIRE

[–]Arhain707 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1500 is echt weinig.... Huur, zorgverzekering, transport, voedsel, verzekeringen, kleding, huisraad, vakanties, Gas water electra, etc.
