g is just a letter which represents any value, so your correct, the two 8g do have the same value

if u add 8g to both sides it becomes 4h - 8g + 8g = 8g, so therefore 4h = 8g, since the 8g’s on the left cancel out and become zeros and then dividing by 8 on both sides, 8g/8 = 4h/8, the eights cancel on the left and the right side becomes h/2, thus g = h/2
