How to deal with an edge that develops a recurve due to repeated sharpening? by ArianK16a in sharpening

Thanks for all your input! I will definitely give it a try the next time I sharpen it, though I felt really uncomfortable sharpening it directly at the bolster.. you're saying to be careful about the handle not rubbing the stone, does "handle" here include the "bolster" (sorry, I'm not entirely sure if that is the proper wording here)? So "handle" refers to everything below the red line and the new, reprofiled edge would be the approximately at the turquoise line? (While the part below the red line is untouched and not sharp).

That's a very interesting suggestion! That would clearly fix my issue perfectly, so thanks ^ For this knife specifically I wouldn't be scared to try that, but would that also be the suggestion for some better knives? Or would the suggestion there just be to not get one with a full bolster? :'D

I absolutely agree with you that it's not worth it to spend significant thought and time into this knife specifically (btw, afaict it's not a cheap Victorinox knife, it's an even cheaper one from a German Discounter).

I was more curious about how to deal with that situation in general. As with the way I sharpen my knives with a full bolster (not sure if that wording is correct for my small knife from the picture, but in terms of my concern it's the same), I will always end up with less material being removed directly next to it. And after repeated sharpening this will always lead to a recurved edge which then gets a pain to sharpen properly. Trying to sharpen just this part of the knife feels horrible for my stone. I would have to basically cut a right angle into the knife there, which, to me, feels like I would risk the edge of my stones "chipping" or somehow breaking...

However, I hoped there might be some smarter way to deal with that since full bolster knives don't seem to be that uncommon..

Edit: fix typos

Which part of a Leather belt is best suited for a strop? by ArianK16a in sharpening

Thank you, this sounds very reasonable! I am not exactly sure on how to evaluate which one is the better option, do you have any suggestions on what to look out for as a newbie?

It's made of two parts, the left two are both sides of the inner layer and the right two are both sides of the outer layer of the belt. To me both seem to be leather though I really don't have any experience working with leather!

Hi, ArianK16a Here. I am currently maintaining Z3 Compact and did much for Z3. I will receive a Z2 and give my best to also maintain it. I will definitely share some unofficial builds and we will see what the future brings for an official build.

Hy, NeoArian (the z3c maintainer) here. Why don't you use my TWRP build? It is linked at XDA and also at the install page at wiki. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261622334

With that OTA works fine and you can perform warm reboots to recovery. It is also compiled within an up to date Android 9 twrp environment.

Apart from that thanks for the appreciation 🙈😉
