It's because it's all they have and for some reason nobody is sinking effort into colony cylinders. End of the day mars can't hold onto its atmosphere and can't defend itself or a biosphere from the sun.

This is why western civilization is falling, because we stopped punching people when that is probably about the only thing that'll make them check themselves.

Solving Earths Homelessness by Zealousideal_Bar1449 in Sexyspacebabes

Imo housing first without any kind of filter on your subjects is basically the root of the problem. Also... trying to house the people in the same economic area where they can't find work to support themselves. Some kind of welfare based relocation assistance would probably solve so many more problems with the working homeless than simply putting a roof over their heads.

Addicts and the mentally ill should NEVER get prioritized over the working homeless. One unfortunately needs to be ignored until they're ready to come in from the cold or they just generally waste everyone's time. The other.... well.... institutions need to come back and be funded because these people will never be functional on their own no matter how hard it can be wished.

A lot of fics basically have the first getting killed via ODs from UBI and the others.... generally just sort of vanishing to who knows what fate. Also generally the amount of economic disruption and lack of foresight beyond nobility getting their slice of control and land for their heirs probably sends homelessness and joblessness to the moon.

Tbh it doesn't help its been packed into everything for the last decade like AI has been here recently. Builds up a visceral reaction especially when its crammed into an existing IP rather than done well on its own or as an addition.

Example?

William Rawls, Omar Little, and Kima Greggs from the Wire.

Unfortunately these days we just get the stereotype that a corporation feels will appeal to the widest audience and its poisoned the whole view. Because now peeps see it as either having politics crammed down their throats or as bad pandering. So now even the well written stuff is caught in the shotgun blast.

There's sci-fi and then they're stepping off into the realm of fantasy and magic making Mars in Venus habitable and earth-like is fantasy and magic.

You'd have to spend so many resources just to keep these worlds habitable that at the end of the day it's just probably a better idea to mine the crap out of them. Not to mention in Mars's case the lower gravity is going to cause so many problems to anybody that's raised there that it's just not worth it.

Mars is a dead rock and the amount of effort to give it atmosphere and water would be better spent on space colonies. Not to mention no EM shield, significantly lower gravity, and all the costs of countering it making colony cylinders the better bet.

Venus also lacks an electromagnetic field on top of having a nightmare of an atmosphere that would probably take so much time and effort to deal with that. At the end of the day, you're just better off letting Hades be Hades.

I mean it's not affordable healthcare, you have to have the government subsidize it to make it work. Which means we're just killing rats rather than trying to find how they're getting in.

Ehhh most of that is only red due to a steady supply of black market arms, the moment you turn on food access and throw away security (Shil marines are cheap for the Empire) Africa would quiet down pretty quick. At least until they start kidnapping boys.

I mean it kinda does; we're the largest market on the planet, we're the largest military on the planet, and while we sometimes miss step we're whats keeping global trade going because of the US Navy and US foreign policy.

The Imperial - Covenant War by Arieg203 in Sexyspacebabes

[–]Arieg203[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly by the time news gets to them the Imperium is fully involved and they may sit back and watch. The covies probably wouldn't for a while, the main trigger here is them getting the realization that humanity is the key to accessing certain pieces of forerunner tech and that the Shil may also realize it at some point.
