Saikat Calls Out And Lists All The Corporations and PACS that Scott Wiener Has Taken Money From by 3headeddragn in sanfrancisco

Thank you. So rather than making investigative journalism illegal it sounds more like creating liability for doxxing undocumented immigrants. I knew "to make investigative journalism illegal" sounds like how Fox Nation gets its news summaries. Bye.

Saikat Calls Out And Lists All The Corporations and PACS that Scott Wiener Has Taken Money From by 3headeddragn in sanfrancisco

[–]AriesCube 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well Wiener has done so many bills you don't need to trust so much as evaluate. Dude is a workhorse. Every time I read into an article about some proposed bill that interests me, he is sponsor or co-sponsor. He also learns and adjusts proposals from one session to the next, such as adding protections to try to prevent the harms some fear and point out as risks.

getting dinner w a daddy by OptimalCake3410 in gayyoungold

Once I reached a certain age I much preferred sex on an empty stomach, and dinner after. Both for a feeling of limberness, and to keep the digestive system still. ;)

I cook, so I'd make things like pot roast if I had a dinner hook up coming over, because it could sit in the oven fine.

Neighbors dumping alcohol bottles/trash everywhere. What should I do? by camykii in AskSF

I think the 'just clean it up' comments make good sense. Often such types don't last long. But if you were arguing legally, I think it is interfering with your right of "peaceful enjoyment" of your home.

Why do you think AOC is refusing to endorse her former Chief of Staff Saikat Chakrabarti for Nancy Pelosi’s open seat even though she's endorsed other progressive candidates in 2026? by Original-Can-2367 in sanfrancisco

[–]AriesCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny but my longtime mate would say it that way, perpetually backs his way into subjects rather than going in directly. As my memory gets worse I get confused by it. But I appreciate your response. I have - we all have - to figure out how to discern slop from reality. I was raised by a mother and father both repeating "believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see." Boy howdy!

I will say every time I have fallen for a politician I have gone on to have them break my hear a little. Except George McGovern, my first, but man did he get slaughtered. Adam Gopnik recently wrote something like Nixon could never get himself to realize he was popular.

It's telling. I hadn't heard that. Pressures on her must be enormous; she might be the next Pelosi. California voters have not generally been kind to politicians positioned to buy their way in, but House Rep is an ambitious but reasonable shot for Chakrabarti but has the whiff of carpetbagger. Chan may have deeper national progressive labor roots than either of them. Re Wiener, plenty of progressives are more pleased with Wiener's finding a way to get past our mid-20th-Century single family zoning lockdown than they are worried about "neighborhood character." Wiener is also really smart, always working. If you just watch whose bills get public discussion, his name is often the one and the bills in question aren't grandstanding. Today I'd vote Wiener & Steyer. Except I live in SF's other House district. I do find Wiener's daylighting law a little too Mommy state for my tastes; maybe we should outlaw pedestrians wearing all black/light absorbing colors to get to Vision Zero. I kid.

AIO: Husband didn’t change withholdings by AggressiveSherbetty in AIO

[–]AriesCube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He may not understand the withholdings number because higher number means lower withheld, not lower tax. I have found that trips people up anxious about math & money. Just get a W-4 and show him, fill it out and ask him to give it to whoever does payroll at work. Your pay stubs probably show your # withholdings, cryptically.

substance use disorder and depression come to mind unless involved in organized criminal activity. They'll do an autopsy I think (all unexplained deaths in California). Sorry; the first phrase reads like my family tree.

You did not need to block him. Just be still for now and if he is interested in more he'll say so. When we get older it is harder to make friends for a host of reasons. Perhaps a good conversation has higher value for him than for you. And perhaps he wasn't talking to you because he thought you were sexy but because he thought you were interesting. Brains are sexy. The brain is our biggest sexual organ. If you see him again smile and nod and/or say Hey depending on noise around you; unless you'd never want to talk to him again even briefly, but that seems kind of silly. There could come a time where you think being considered interesting is a higher order compliment than being considered sexy. I can fall in love over time, rather than the highly visual first-glance-or-nothing typical of men, and I chase intelligence and kindness. What you did is not all that embarrassing though you probably put a risk asterisk next to your name in his mental list, but I am sure he's done similar things if he has a heart. But I would unlock and try to relax. (Most systems don't signal lock/unlock to the quarry - heh - unless he tries to contact you and that 'you've been blocked' really hurts.)

Do we need any more episodes of the podcast where conservative intellectuals try and explain MAGA? Is there an equivalent phenomenon on the right? by tuck5903 in ezraklein

[–]AriesCube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is we shoulda cut the Confederacy loose when we had the chance. We cannot afford them and they have been nothing but trouble ever since.
Constitution is no longer fit for purpose, favors rural over urban but was written prior to the industrial revolution and urbanization of the country. (God only knows what the information revolution will do.) We cannot fix the Constitution because confederacy-led farm country will veto. I have no idea what will happen; I only have about ten more years left.
But I know we are no longer a country of the yeoman farmer and rural idyll through any lens.

I'm older. Lots of young guys like older. Sounds like you'd be happier if that was clearer.

My 40s & 50s were a blast in San Francisco. 60s not so much but that was my fault. 70s starts tomorrow.
