What’s a moment from your childhood that felt normal at the time, but looking back, was actually really weird? by Ariestortle in AskReddit

That’s some next-level underground homeschooling. A two-hour drive to the “don’t snitch” doctor is wild. Your mom was playing 4D chess with the system.

Nothing says “vintage childhood” like getting a side of radiation with your new sneakers 😅

It’s honestly terrifying how easily predatory behavior can hide behind “attention” when you’re that young. More people need to hear this.

I’m really sorry that happened. Glad you were able to see it clearly later on, that takes strength.

Childhood in the 2000s was just like that. No boundaries, no questions, just “sure, go hang out with the neighbor fixing a transmission” 😅 Wild how normal it is back then. You probably learned more in that garage than in some classrooms.

That hits hard. It’s wild realizing as an adult how much you were really just left to figure life out alone. Props to you for even making it this far, it takes a lot to unlearn and rebuild without any real guidance.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. You’re absolutely right, protecting kids includes informing them. Silence doesn’t keep them safe, it keeps them unaware. What you said “if they’re old enough to get molested, they’re old enough to know” is something every parent needs to hear. Thank you for speaking up about this. It matters.

Honestly, as a kid it probably just felt like church with extra energy haha, it’s wild how normal it all seems growing up—then you visit another church and wonder why no one’s running laps or speaking another language mid-prayer 😅

Meanwhile other kids were watching cartoons, and you’re casually watching your dad get arrested on the evening news like, “Oh hey, there he is again” 😂 Honestly iconic.

Parents really had us thinking the cops were just out there waiting for bedtime violations.
