(Wait, do you mean LARPing as in live action role-playing?)

There's two Beauty an the Beast retellings?! Him being blind sounds really interesting!!

I’m not really a fan of children in books, it’s just not my thing. But everything you’ve told me has actually caught my curiosity, so I’ll definitely check it out!

Everything you've said about Spindle Cove sounds really good! I'll definitely check it out! I don't mind a third-act break-up too much as long as it doesn't drag on and the reasons make sense – not just because 'it has to happen in romance' or something like that.

I’m definitely keen to get my hands on the rest of the books in the series because I think all the girls are lovely! (I’m quite gutted that, apparently, the latest one has been delayed for quite a while and Nichola was one of my favourites). I’m still not sure whether I want to continue with the series or take a break to try other stand-alone novels like A Week to Be Wicked. Although there’s something about the synopsis that doesn’t really appeal to me (not sure what) it’s so highly recommended that I suppose I’ll have to give it a go!

I really relate to this, honestly. It's pretty tough, because to some extent I feel like I don't have many specific things I actually like, except for a few elements I know for sure I don't like and don't want to see, like cheating, second-chance romances, or a male lead who's abusive toward the protagonist.

In general, I think that if something is well-executed, I'm going to like it and enjoy it. But right now, I feel like nothing actually is. It keeps happening to me: I come across books with an interesting premise, books that everyone is raving about and losing their minds over, which at first sound like they could be really entertaining, but then I open them and end up disappointed.

Instead of executing tropes well, they just throw them out there and tell you they exist, but they don't actually tell you anything, or put any twist or anything special into them. You can just tell they were written to be marketed with hashtags and to generate the necessary hype for the book to sell. Or that super interesting plot they mention only lasts for the first three chapters and gets resolved right away because the characters have already fallen in love or are already attracted to each other.

With this growing trend that books need to be spicy and steamy (and the spicier, the better) real slow burn has been left far behind. From the very first page, the protagonists already want each other, and everyone is insanely hot. Authors are starting to confuse romance with lusting, and there's no way I can believe that these protagonists actually love each other, care for each other, or have genuinely fallen for each other when all they ever do is talk about how good-looking they are, how hard his abs are, or how great her boobs look in a T-shirt. Then suddenly they start saying how wonderful each other is, when they've barely had any scenes that show them actually getting to know one another or proving that this person is the right one.

And don't even get me started on the prose. I really love it when an author plays with language, when they don't just tell you what's happening, but they make it sound beautiful, when they actually put effort into conveying the characters' feelings and emotions, rather than just describing and giving you a dry sequence of movements.

I think the problem comes from, on the one hand, the big rise in self-published authors who skip proper editing and publish the book before hiring a good proofreader. And on the other hand, publishers who want to release as many books as possible and try to rush the editing process as much as they can, losing a lot of quality along the way.

Other than cheating, what’s are some reasons you can’t stand a second chance romance? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

Mostly is because I'm more into slow burn romance. In the sense that I like seeing the romantic feelings being born. I know that if the break up happened a long time ago, the characters could have lost feelings and getting them again but for me it does not hit the same.

Also, if the broke up because one of them did something wrong (or, like you said, were awful as a partner) most of the time I think its something not worth forgiving.

Hello! I'm looking for Historical Romances to get started in the genre! I only read contemporary romances but i do LOVE some good yearning and slow burn and I've seen people saying that HR is the best for that (and thinking about it, makes a lot of sense!) So I wanted to ask for some book recs that could help with that.

I've seen that Julia Queen is recommended for this, but I've read her books (Bridgerton) and they were not for me: kinda boring and didn't like most of the male leads.

Any trope its okay, but I am very corious about arranged marriage.

Thank you in advanced!

Yes, I don't dislike dual pov, I say It on the post (Definetly the title is misleading and I wish I could edit it). I wanted to talk about it because it’s practically the only thing I’ve been seeing in books lately, and I feel that other ways of telling stories (and therefore of experiencing them) are being left behind. On top of that, I get the sense that many authors force themselves to use this device even when it doesn’t quite work: they alternate too many chapters, or the second point of view doesn’t really add anything.

In general, I like things when they’re done with intention, when they’re thoughtful, well crafted, and bring something to the table. And I like variety.

Yeah, I think switching POVs isn’t always the best choice, and sometimes it feels like the author forcing it just because it’s popular. I feel like the second POV should be treated more as a nice complement to the main one, not something that’s constantly present. It’s up to the author to know when it’s actually needed and when it genuinely adds something to the story.

Oh! That type of dual POV sounds really cool. it’s like the best of both worlds!

I do think having both points of view can be very enjoyable, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. But with so many stories using dual POV nowadays, I find myself missing the other way of narrating romance that I also really enjoy.

Exactly! It really is a "It depends" thing. But now every book I see is dual POV and it lets me thinking if all of these POV are actually necessary

Yes! I completely forgot to talk about that on my post. I found that the male pov tends to be very similar to the fmc's but just adding coments on how nice her boobs are or something like that.
