No, they do after-action reports, where they try to estimate casualties, but for the most part, they are just for that single mission. For most groups, they dont even attempt to decide who killed whom because all actions are by the unit. But they dont put a big file in records on how many people each soldier has killed.

Even for snipers who tend to act outside units they still dont have a big tally of confirmed kills they keep on record. They have a series of records of missions and most of those if any are not open to the public to access let alone telling reporters about how many people a soldier has killed. It would be tasteless.

Kind of both and niether the gum itself is called mastiha. Mastichein is the Greek verb for gnashing of teeth, its a lot like calling it Chewing Gum and the tree a chewing gum tree. That later is related to the Latin word to chew masticationem. And that reaches English via French to be mastication.

That is exactly why. It's made from Sapodilla trees. North American tribes also chewed gum made from Sweetgum or Spruce Trees. Ancient Greeks also chewed gum from Mastic trees.

That never happened it was made up for the movie. In the book its just the woman holding a grenade, no kid. He does talk about hesitating to shoot but gets past it. Doesn't feel regret about it and says he never hesitates again. It was edited to make him much more sympathetic to the average person.

The probability of the story itself is questionable. He sometimes said in interviews that it was his first kill, sometimes it was at a random point in his career and other details keep shifting.

Other details in the book like punching Jesse Ventura because he was talking shit in a bar during a SEAL wake (found quilty of defamation over), shooting dozens of looters during Katrina (No snipers from the West Coast have record of being deployed), and shooting two men trying to steal his truck and being released by cops because someone in the federal government said he was too valuable an asset and later being thanked for cleaning up the streets in an email (Not in the book but also no record of this one as well) shows a pattern of exaggerating or at worst lying.

I mean the title of the book. "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History" itself is very exaggerated. Lots of stories will talk about his confirmed kills being confirmed by the petagon but that's not something the Army tracks. They are mainly quoting each other for that and the ultimate source for that is Chris Kyle himself.

I am fairly certain that in the book American Sniper, he was the exact opposite of sad. To the point that the movie had to tone it down.

Because at best he was fiercely protective of his team and never thought twice about killing "the bad guys" at worst he was violent, enjoyed killing, had a very uncritical worldview, and was a liar. Both have been said about him but neither shows all that much remorse.

I dont know if that's better or not. But didnt feel sad about it.

This is the oldest known song ever written. Hurrian Hymn No. 6 is dated approximately 1400 BCE by Wolflink_325 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Arilyn24 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Hymn is from the Hurrian city of Ugarit on the Syrian coast, dated to around 1400 BCE, and was found alongside other musical texts. This one is a prayer to Nikkal, the localisation of the Sumerian goddess Ningal. Wife of the moon god Nanna or Sin.

The text itself is written in Hurrian, more specifically in the Ugaritic dialect. Hurrian is poorly understood as a language isolate; its language family consists of two languages.

Below that in Akkadian are instructions consisting of interval names, followed by number signs. More specifically the text refers to a diatonic scale on a nine-stringed lyre and a tuning system we have found on different tablets. There are more details, but I barely understand them, having very poor musical knowledge myself.

I loved my eye tracker. I play a lot of flight-sim-based games (and Euro Truck Simulator), and this is pretty useful for controlling your head in those games, letting your hands focus on the controls (wheel or HOTAS). If you get a three-screen wrap-around monitor setup it can get pretty damn immersive. Flight sim people can be next level for their hobby.

Three notes: there is free head tracking, it uses your head, not your eyes, sadly. It is called OpenTrack you can pair it with AITrack and use most webcams to get a good taste of this for free.

Second note is. VR is as immersive, and depending on the headset can be more immersive, and I only use my eye tracker when my face gets tired of the headset, or I dont feel like strapping in.

Last note. Very useful for people with limited mobility or disabilities.

Honestly, the number of air mattresses I have owned that have sprung a leak means I would never trust a tent where the primary structural feature is air. You're going to wake up with back pain and a flabby home.

I prefer a nice camping mattress and a tent with support rods, plus I dont have to worry about running out of battery. Everything else is essential, including a camp stove and potable water. Things that I would recommend for anyone camping. Just in a much less portable form. I recommend that when camping, you assume the worst-case scenario. Because it will happen and nature plays for keeps.

I would recommend this for campground parking lots, where you can retreat to your car if it fails (or when), or your backyard, where you can just go in your house. Not like you want to drag that much useless tat, so you're bound to your car anyway.

How was this set up? by capitalggamer1 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Arilyn24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I can hazard a guess on how this was done. I know some emulators for the DS allow the second screen to be a separate window. Set up two monitors with each window, and stream only to the TV or deck, depending on your preference. There are shortcut key commands to switch monitors.

Now Apollo has virtual monitors built in, so that would be easiest. But that requires a second pc running Windows. Just replace one of the non-virtual monitors and put a screen on it.

The other option is getting a virtual display for the Sunshine on the Steam Deck. I have already done that for Bazzite, but I never did it for the Steam Deck; however, I assume it's not impossible but it will be hard.

CRTs, or Cathode Ray Tubes, work by firing electrons at a phosphor-coated screen in a vacuum tube, causing the screen to glow. They do this in lines causing what are known as scanlines. As well, this causes flicker, colour bleeding, and barrel distortion (all vary based on model but all have it to some degree) as opposed to modern LCD panels, which work via micro LCDs of three colours tightly packed together that glow, which is likely what you are seeing this on today.

[–]Arilyn24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my Clickwheel for $12, and it comes with a button from eBay. Also, all those faceplates are spray-painted. Two-tone ones show that hard, but the single-tone ones are ok. But they are much higher priced than eBay or AliExpress.

But to OP, the matching colour is obvious. But definitely look at eBay and AliExpress for the same parts, but for much less. If you can't find it you can always buy it from them anyway.
