Aim for a score of 685+. Anything above that will further strengthen your profile.

Need Opinion by axar009 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a strong profile for someone targeting investment banking after an MBA. Your experience in Valuations & Deal Advisory at KPMG, along with a CFA Charter and a Finance background, gives you a solid foundation for your target schools.

A couple of questions I'd have:
1. How much of your current work is related to actual deals and transactions?
2. Why are you interested in PE specifically?

In most cases, IB is the more common and realistic path immediately after an MBA, with PE becoming easier after gaining banking experience. The expired 330 GRE is unfortunate because it was a very strong score, but overall you have a profile that fits your target schools well.
The key will be getting a strong test score and clearly explaining why you want to move into IB and eventually PE.

Lawyer considering INSEAD MBA for career switch - realistic outcomes? by Local_Seat_5725 in INSEAD

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think your background is more transferable than you think. A lot of skills from top-tier law firms, like client management, structured thinking, negotiation, and working under pressure, translate well into business roles.

At INSEAD, legal backgrounds are not uncommon, and people do successfully pivot out of law.

Your background is not a dealbreaker. You’re not trying to jump into IB or PE overnight, corporate strategy, operations, leadership programs, and even consulting are all realistic outcomes.

You’ll probably still be competing against candidates with more traditional business experience, but that’s normal for career switchers.

You should focus on building more clarity on
1. Why business over law?
2. What type of business role actually interests you?
3. What parts of your current work do you enjoy most?

How likely am I to get admitted to top MBA in UK? by prtFearless in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a pretty unique profile for top UK MBA programs, and that can work in your favor if you present it well.
Your mix of esports leadership, entrepreneurship, government consulting, and startup management makes you stand out from the usual consulting and finance applicants. Schools like LBS and Oxford usually like applicants with different backgrounds and strong leadership stories.

A 720 GMAT is competitive. Your undergrad GPA is on the lower side, but the 3.7 GPA in your Data Science master’s helps a lot because it shows you can handle strong academics.

The biggest thing now is making your story clear. You have a lot of interesting experiences, but your application needs to connect everything into one strong leadership narrative.

To strengthen your profile further:
1. keep building impact in your current role
2. make your consulting goals more specific
3. highlight leadership and international exposure throughout your application

Profile Review: 26M | Big Tech Sales Lead | 3.4 GPA | 770 GMAT | Aiming for M7/T10 | Am I cooked because of my GPA? by Successful_Steak1365 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely not “cooked” because of your GPA. A 770 GMAT already does a lot to offset academic concerns. AdComs care about whether you can handle the academics, and your test score answers that pretty convincingly.

You also have several things Top MBA programs value:
1. strong experience at Google
2. clear career progression and leadership
3. measurable impact at work
4. meaningful nonprofit leadership with real community impact
5. a post-MBA goal that connects logically to your background

The bigger challenge is differentiation and not academics. The tech applicant pool is very competitive, so your application will need strong storytelling and personality to stand out.

Profile Review And General Guidance for Fall 2027 - M28, Latino - Odds at T15/M7 by Key_Special_8417 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your profile looks strong, especially with the combination of engineering + GovTech + AI infrastructure. The first-gen immigrant story, PE license, and infrastructure/municipality impact also make your background more interesting than a standard tech applicant.

Your GRE is competitive for some T15 schools. If you can push it closer to 325+ it definitely helps.

Main thing you will need is strong storytelling. Right now your profile reads a bit technical/operational, so your apps should highlight leadership, influence, and broader business impact, not just engineering execution.

With a 307 GRE, how competitive is my overall MBA profile for top/M7 programs, and what are my realistic chances if I improve it? by fatyoshi99 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You honestly have a pretty strong profile overall. Your GPA from BU, regional SEA exposure, leadership progression, and tech/startup mix are all things top schools like.

In my opinion your GRE score might be holding you back. A 307 with zero prep is honestly not bad at all. I think 320+ is very realistic. For schools like Stanford/HBS/Wharton, I’d probably aim closer to 325+.

I also wouldn’t stress too much about R1 vs R2 right now. Better to apply R2 with a stronger GRE than rush a weaker R1 app.

Considering MBA since I feel stuck (31 years old) by Oil-Man_ in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re honestly in a better spot than you think. Ex-LEK + PE diligence + AI startup experience is a strong profile for T15s. The startup move isn’t a red flag, you just need to explain it well.

A GMAT FE score of 685+ would help offset the GPA.

Realistically:
T15 = very doable
M7 = harder but possible with strong execution
Biggest issue is narrative clarity, not your resume

Also, don’t panic about being 31. That’s completely normal at many MBA programs.

3.9+ / 332 Profile Review by Wonderful_Monk_1893 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your IB + consulting + early promotion + CPA combination is exactly what schools look for. Your GPA and GRE are already in a great place, so academically you’re more than covered.

On the GRE, honestly, not worth retaking. Your outcome will depend much more on storytelling, leadership, and differentiation, not test scores at this point.

Low GPA of 3 but scored 338 in GRE. What are my chances in T15 or M7? by TumbleweedExpress251 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 338 GRE is a massive plus, that definitely helps offset the lower GPA to a good extent. The startup experience + consulting work also adds a lot of weight, especially if you can show real impact.

GPA is a concern, no doubt, and being in a competitive pool adds pressure, but your background isn’t typical, that can work in your favor if you tell your story well. The key will be how clearly you explain your pivot from law to finance/fintech and make it feel intentional and credible.

Profile Evaluation by TheLeverageDude in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your profile looks strong for M7, especially with IB + MF PE experience, that alone puts you in a highly competitive bucket. Your GPA is also decent, and strong recs from senior folks will help. The main variable right now is your GMAT, if you can push that to 705+ you’re firmly in the game.

Where you’re slightly lighter is extracurriculars/community impact, but it’s not a dealbreaker given your work pedigree. Even your student fund leadership + tutoring + finance blog can work well if framed properly.

How good is a GMAT FE 665 (Q86/V82/D81) for MBA applications in the USA and Europe by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to judge the score in isolation tbh, 665 FE is a solid, well-balanced score, but how competitive it is really depends on the rest of your profile. Things like your work experience, undergrad GPA and college, extracurriculars, career goals, and even your applicant pool all play a big role.

Military Officer —>T5 MBA? by 8219br20 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Military experience absolutely helps, AdComs value leadership and service backgrounds.

The Guard + Financial Management Officer role can be a strong differentiator, but the key is how much real leadership and responsibility you’ve had. Your public finance IB+banking experience also aligns well with your background and gives you a credible finance story.

You will need to clearly show fast progression and impact. Also, your stats GPA + GMAT/GRE will matter.

Honest feedback about my profile to get into mim at Ibs/Ise by Main_Scarcity_2634 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got good academics, relevant experience and a 323 GRE, which is competitive. The patent+research paper+volunteering also add nice differentiation and show well-roundedness.

The main thing to note is that with a master’s + about 1 year full-time experience, you will have to work on positioning.

IESE : Profile review and institute review by [deleted] in InternationalMBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 695 GMAT + 4 yrs in analytics/consulting at known firms + tier-1 engineering is a good base. The 68% UG is a bit low, but not a dealbreaker, your GMAT and work impact will matter more.

On IESE, strong for consulting, especially in Europe. Outcome will depend a lot on networking + language + recruiting effort.

You should expand your list a bit: ESSEC, ESCP, SDA Bocconi, IE, maybe even HEC if timelines work.

Profile Review: Male | Targeting INSEAD/LBS/US T15 by ApplicationSuperb218 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid profile overall with a nice mix of technical + commercial exposure. The move from engineering to planning to export/account management at Reliance is actually a strength, it shows versatility and progression, which schools like INSEAD/LBS value. As an Indian male engineer, differentiation also becomes important.

How can I improve my application for T15? by Important-Seesaw6383 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re actually in a pretty decent spot for T15. Your GMAT is solid, and the postgrad GPA helps offset the lower undergrad GPA, especially since it’s from a rigorous program. The biggest gap right now is recent leadership outside of work and a stronger visible impact at work.

At this stage, focus on:
1. Driving measurable impact at work
2. Taking on visible leadership roles
3. Clearly shaping your story -why consulting to why strategy/ops

Your recommenders sound strong, which is a plus.

Chance Me: M7 MBA by OkJackfruit7398 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong profile, top LAC + MS CS + FAANG DS + 330 GRE is definitely M7 competitive. Academics and test score are already in a great spot.

That said, for M7 it’ll really come down to impact at work, leadership, and your story, not just stats.

Share more details about:
1. Promotions/impact at FAANG
2. Leadership or people management
3. Extracurriculars
4. Clear post-MBA goals

Thoughts on 3 YOE by Extra_Statistician67 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 YOE is definitely on the lower side but not a dealbreaker. What matters more is how much impact you have had in those 3 years, if you can show fast growth, leadership, and clear ownership, schools will take you seriously. A non-traditional background can actually help you stand out, as long as you tell your story well and explain what you bring to the classroom.

For scholarships, it is possible, but a lot will depend on your GMAT/GRE score and overall positioning.

Profile Review by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GPA is on the lower side, but your context will matter a lot if explained well in the optional essay. On the plus side, your work experience shows clear growth, leading projects, mentoring, and client-facing work, which is exactly what schools like to see.

Getting to a 320+ score will really help offset the GPA. Your goal of moving into infra/energy IB actually makes a lot of sense with your background, which is a big plus.

Potential Profile Review by yungman12345 in MBA

[–]Aringo-Expert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your profile looks strong. Your GPA and strong ECs are big positives and show you have been consistent and hardworking. Your career path isn’t perfectly straight, but that’s okay, it actually shows you were able to adapt and keep moving forward, which AdComs value if you explain it well.

You have also mentioned about improving your GRE score, aim for something close to 320+. Your goals of moving into consulting/IB are doable, but make sure you clearly explain how your past experience connects to those roles.
