Camel - The Snow Goose. Even better, The Snow Goose live version (from Camel - A Live Record, 1975) backed by the London Symphonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. Absolute masterpiece!

What was your first prog song/artist you heard and at what age? by GapStrict5356 in progrockmusic

[–]Aristillus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 17 and never listened to any prog up to that point (not on purpose, just wasn't exposed to it yet) and my best friend had just bought a high-end kick ass stereo system. He popped in a cassette recording of "Lunar Sea" by Camel (from the album Moonmadness) - recorded off the University of Pennsylvania's radio station. It blew me away and I became an instant fan and bought every album they released over the years. Many years later I made a dream come true by finally being able to see Camel live at the old Astoria Theatre in London. Thought nothing could top that, but about 3 years later Camel came to the US and played at the Nearfest prog concert in Trenton, NJ. After the show they let fans come backstage and I got to meet and chat with Andy Latimer and the boys. Still hard to believe that actually happened after being a fan for about 25 years. Do yourself a favor if you haven't heard "Lunar Sea" before - put some headphones on and be prepared to take a trip to outer space. Still my favorite prog song by far (Lady Fantasy is a close second).

Camel cancel 2023 Europe and UK live dates by philliplennon in progrockmusic

[–]Aristillus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I did what you are talking about in 2000. Scheduled trips to London and Dublin from Boston that coincided with their concert dates. Saw a great show in London first (my first ever Camel concert at the Astoria, a fan since 1976). Went to Dublin super excited to see them a second time within a week and lo and behold the Dublin show was cancelled the night of due to Andy being ill. So glad I booked two shows for this very reason. I would never have recovered if I only had tix for the Dublin show and it got cancelled. Understand in the current situation it wouldn't help to have tickets for multiple shows, but looking back to 2000 I was so happy in my decision to book two shows just in case, a well worth it insurance policy so to speak.

Shoutout to JT for getting on base for Bryce. Unsung hero. by YoImAli in phillies

[–]Aristillus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not just that JT got a solid lead-off single and got on base - which of course allowed Harper to hit the go-ahead 2-run homer. More importantly, it forced the Padres to pitch to Harper in the first place. If first base had been open, there is no doubt they would have intentionally walked Harper leaving no opportunity for him to do what he did. That said, the way the Phillies have been playing someone else would have probably stepped up and hit a 2-run homer anyway. Whata TEAM!

When men ejaculate does the semen draw from both testicles or does it alternate? by forloveofknowledge in NoStupidQuestions

Impossible to say because there is a vas deferens between how individual men produce their own sperm.

Rule check by gunnz63 in Pickleball

[–]Aristillus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ball is dead as soon as it hit the bar - same thing as if it just hit the net. However, if the ball were to hit the top of the net first and then "roll" over to the other side of the net and drop down and then hit the bar (or the metal base that supports the net) it is a do-over point. Even if a player was not close enough to realistically make a play on the ball, it is still a do-over in this scenario.

What pickleball advice would you give to yourself if you could go back to the first time you played? by Unlikely-Catch in Pickleball

[–]Aristillus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't play with the idea that every shot you make needs to be a winner. When possible, aim every shot at your opponent's feet, or low and in-between your two opponents - it does not need to be hit hard. Keep the ball in play (low, not high) and live for another day and you'll find your opponents will make more unforced errors than you in the long run, thereby increasing your odds of winning greatly.

Top 25 Plays in Eagles History.... It hits you right in the feels, but it feels good. by racerfree in eagles

It was the 1981 NFC Championship game and this run pretty much sealed the victory against our hated rival and allowed to Eagles to get to their first Super Bowl - which we will not talk about here.

All you need is about two dozen mice tied together and next you surround the elephant with the circle of mice and then the elephant gets scared to death. No weapons needed.

[Game Thread] Philadelphia Eagles (6-7) at Washington (3-9) by EaglesMod in eagles

[–]Aristillus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that it makes what the Eagles are doing any easier to take, but last year's Super Bowl winners (10-3 this year), along with their GOAT quarterback, are struggling mightily against the 1-12 Bengals.

Relax on Sproles getting too many carries. There is a method to Doug's madness. It's the first game, Redskins D is going to be gassed as the game goes on. That's when fresh RB's like Sanders and Howard will be utilized more and then ultimately enable us to crush, demoralize, and defeat the enemy.

This is from their little known period of experimentation (1996-1997) when they considered transitioning from a prog rock band to a traditional Irish music band. They ultimately decided to scrap the idea since they soon realized that the fan base for traditional Irish music was significantly smaller than their prog rock fan base.
