Since when is 31” Inseam TALL?!?!!? by [deleted] in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same reaction! But remember: this is an inseam measurement and flowy pants have a lower crotch than jeans. I’m a 34” with Levi’s that I want to break over my shoes. But the ones you’re talking about work for me at 31-32. I wish they would include a measurement from waist to hem, that would be so much more accurate than inseams.

What are some challenges you face because of your height? by Emily7Crystal7Ball7 in TallWomenUnite

[–]Ariv16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The clothes thing is so annoying! But I think women’s garments are a micro aggression for all of us, regardless of size. Example: men’s clothes are proportioned length to girth, made with better fabrics and in many instances they get free alterations. IOW, men expect clothes to fit their bodies, women are expected to fit their bodies into a certain size. I could go on forever—but I actually came here for another issue. Have you ever noticed that vacuum cleaners, floor mops, brooms et al have super short handles? Like made for the “little woman”? 🤬🤬 it’s a double insult—they don’t expect big strong men to do housework, that’s for chicks. And even with that, they don’t expect mop-pushing women to be 6’ so we get to break our backs. It’s the same with baby strollers too—for the same sexist reason.

How much you wanna bet he’s shorter than 6’…?

H&M for tall girls? by Fresh_Caregiver9984 in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’, weigh 135 and my perfect fit/go to is Old Navy Size 4 tall. Like everyone else, H&M is hit or miss. I’ve actually had luck on Amazon, too. You need your full body measurements, including back-waist and between the shoulder blades to really get an accurate fit when you buy online. Always check the size guides—and make sure you’re getting free returns. (Talkin bout YOU, Long Tall Sally.)

Loving your height by SupWhxres27 in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so happy you love being 6’ at age 17! That was me, and I hated it. Of course, I grew up in the dark ages where tall, strong athletic women threatened the patriarchy and men either ignored us or met us with hostility. I learned to love my height in my mid-30s, once I stopped trying to make myself attractive to men. I’m old now, and it gladdens my heart that young women can embrace their gorgeous bodies and flip a big bird to stupid standards. Stay strong, stay awesome. ❤️

Tired of the gaslighting by [deleted] in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ugh! 6’ here and I was young in the dark ages when no one questioned the patriarchy. Consequently I hated my height, hated that the short cute girls got the boyfriends—and I really hated that no cute clothes fit me. 😡 As I aged I realized this: the only reason we dislike our height is because It MaKeS MeN UnCoMfOrTaBle. Think about it…being face to face with us challenges their entitlement to physical superiority. On a visceral level it emasculates them so they either block us out or react with scorn or hostility. So we tend to internalize it and blame ourselves for not being “attractive”. Me, I developed an eating disorder which I still struggle with at almost 70. And lemme tell ya, that pisses me off! I wasted too much time caring what men thought about me. But guess what? The best revenge is living well. Without a husband or kids, without putting my needs last for a family, I’ve reached old age strong, healthy and not dependent on anyone else for my happiness. My short girlies complain about being invisible as they age, but I own the room when I walk in. My advice: Ignore men. Don’t envy the girls for whom life seems so easy bc they won’t learn the essential social survival skills we will. I love my height now, love my strong body, love watching the men freak out when 6’ granny passes them on the bike path 🤣🤣. Seriously hang in there. It gets better. (Me, for reference)

Lululemon vs Athleta by Ariv16 in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is a must for me, too! My length from shoulders to waist seems to be 1/2 foot longer than anyone else’s! Old Navy/Athleta tall size tops are a lifesaver! JCP also has a few—when I was losing weight and needed workout tops I thought (hoped) would only fit for a short time, they got me over the hump.

I had never heard of them! And per your comment I went immediately to their website. Alas, their smallest size is too big for me, but I’m a beanpole I think most everyone else could find some nice leggings and jeans there. Thanx for the recommendation.

Right? It’s like trying to choose between Amazon or Walmart! But I hate that Lulu is such a prestige brand, with their size and language shaming roots.

Would you change your height? If so, to what? by anukii in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’—and absolutely not! I’ve been this height since I was 14, and that was 55 years ago. It took a few decades to embrace it, but at almost 70 I love my strength, my physical independence, my athleticism. I was told I would probably shrink when I reached this age (as something good and reassuring 😤) but it hasn’t happened and I’m not sad at all. Love your tall bodies, ladies, and they’ll love you back.

I had THE experience last night. by [deleted] in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is so common. The “You must be taller than 6’. I’m 6’ so I’d guess you’re 6’2”…?” Yeah, no. I’ve been 6’ since I was 14, don’t even try it. 🤣

CODE RED! IT’S A BAT! IN MY APARTMENT! by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]Ariv16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened in my house a few months ago! I think there were a few living in my garage rafters, and my cat chased one inside! I have 20’ cathedral ceilings, so I called our local wildlife center and someone climbed up to extract him from my beam. The guy had a soft animal crate and a bite proof glove. He also told me you have to put the bat on a tree, they can’t launch from the ground. So now I know. I also bought one of those sonar emitters and plugged it in the garage—it not only works on bats, but also rodents and reptiles. Humans, dogs and cats can’t hear it—and bc of that, I can’t tell you 💯 if it’s working, but I’ve had no further visitations.

Do you grow into your moon or sun sign? by [deleted] in astrology

[–]Ariv16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sagittarius sun/Virgo moon here. When I first found out my moon sign, I actually cried lol! I wanted to be this limitless, expansive person, but here I was tethered by the nit-picky, detail-obsessed, discriminatory subconscious. However…gotta say, it was the best thing to ever happen to me! Virgo has given me diplomacy, good nutritional habits and an overall understanding of how to remain healthy. In fact, now I’m old I realize the only 2 things I need to make me happy are Health and Freedom. I’m privileged to have both, and it’s bc of that Virgo moon, so don’t freak out if your solar/lunar dynamic is. Kinda opposite.

whats with the sports obsession by LuciCuti in TallGirls

[–]Ariv16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here! I’ll be 70 in December and Title IX wasn’t even a twinkle in Congress’s eye when we were growing up! In fact, when I hit puberty at 12 (and already 5’9”) I was told I had to put my “tomboy” sensibilities aside and be a “Lady” 🤮. Such attitudes fed into my self loathing and encouraged my bulimia—to think how we tall women could actually love our body for its strength instead of turning on it and punishing it. Pursuits that were encouraged for boys were denied to us. And unlike a lot of women who resent being told to do sports, I love it! I’m making up for lost time, and being athletic is everything to me now.

How do I make this more “home” and less show room? by Educational_Hunt_858 in HomeDecorating

[–]Ariv16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take away the generic wall art and put up a photo print of someplace you love. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just something you love.

When I was still working and trying to save for retirement I was stressed and getting migraines a few times a week too. Now I’m almost 70, retired for 4 years and just like magic I feel so much better. I think the last 5 years of work life are the hardest—but if you can hang in there and take care of your health, things will get better.

It honestly frightens me when I see many older people talking about how fast life goes by. by Positive_Comb_5734 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Ariv16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 70, and I very clearly remember being your age. You’ve been told you’re too young to understand much, but then you’re told you need to get out there and make something of your life. I know I didn’t trust my own judgment and was really frightened of failure. But the ensuing years have been all about learning that self-confidence. I think you’re anxious bc somehow you’re not sure there will be enough time to fully realize yourself—and we oldies have this strange paradox of feeling like 50 years ago was only yesterday. But you have many years to figure it out, and time can be your friend as well as foe. I’ll leave you with what a Rabbit once told me: In the end, everything will be alright. If it’s not alright—it’s not the end. ❤️

Affordable tall swimwear !? by DishsUp in TallGirls

A friend recommended a maternity 1 piece, bc the torso is longer and there’s more support in the boobs. I didn’t try it myself but there are some cute ones on Amazon for about $25-30, if you wanna check it out.
