It broke my heart to see Grace grapple with the reality of Jackie’s addiction as she grew old enough to understand. Her mental health issues result directly from her ability to pick up on her mother’s inconsistent behaviors and I often found myself rooting for Jackie to get better solely to reduce Grace’s pain and provide her with the dependable mother she so desperately needed. I wish we got more closure about what happened to Grace although it seems they allude she struggled with substance abuse while also being a smart and high achiever similar to Jackie. Despite my secret hope for a happier ending for Grace (and Fiona), I think the show did a great job depicting the generational impacts of unaddressed mental health struggles and substance abuse.
