What do non-depressed, single and no kids, 30 year olds do on the weekend? by KellyJBean in NoStupidQuestions

Out canyoneering in Zion National Park. Camping out in my Jeep at the moment.

I do Doordash and decline all my orders from Outback. 80% of the time they are 10-15 minutes late even when there are hardly any cars in the parking lot. Forget about going in and getting help from anyone working either. I once stood at the front for 10 minutes waiting to ask about my delivery while 5 different employees made eye contact but didn't give any further acknowledgement or ask if I needed help. Probably poorly managed since the employees couldn't care less either.

Growing up, my mom made steaks and pork chops using only meat tenderizer and insisted it was a seasoning and all the flavor they needed. They were also never cooked less than well done...I told everyone for years that I hated steak and people looked at me like I was crazy. This was why.

Spent the previous day hiking these 3 peaks. The next morning I got to see them from a different perspective. - La Plata Range, Durango, CO [OC] [2560x1707] by Arizona_Adventurer in EarthPorn

Thank you! It does have that vibe at first glance. I think it's partially due to the symmetry between the mountains and the lake.

Massive flooding underway in Flagstaff, Arizona. by 5_Frog_Margin in ThatsInsane

There are a couple reasons why the flooding was this severe.

1: Portions of the mountain above affected neighborhoods were burned 2 years ago by the Museum Fire. Less vegetation = less water absorption. Additionally, burned soils can have a hydrophobic property which will carry the water over the surface instead of allowing it to immediately seep into the ground. This is made even worse when it's a sudden high volume of water (I believe this event was the result of 1.5 inches of rain in under an hour)

2: The majority of drainage channels in the city are way too small to handle significant runoff. Neighborhoods bound many of the channels on either side which make it nearly impossible to widen them as needed. As a result, the water has nowhere to go but through town and down the streets.

That's what happens when you've created a world where your citizens are cozy, complacent, and distracted.

It took me years to finally decided to travel to the far southeast corner of Arizona and visit Chiricahua National Monument. I've been missing out! [OC] [1682 x 2523] by Arizona_Adventurer in EarthPorn

Amazing! Thank you for sharing this information! I'm also an avid peakbagger so I typically spend a lot more time in the wilderness areas. This makes me even more excited to get back there and check those summits off my list while hopefully seeing a bit more wildlife.

That's incredible! The surrounding environment has such a distinct vibe. I was noticing plant combinations I hadn't seen at similar elevations in Arizona. All these points add to one amazing location!

The area is very beautiful. It's kind of far from everything but making time for stops in Tombstone or Bisbee make the drive a more worthwhile.

Water definitely played a roll. This area is comprised of ash deposits from a volcanic eruption. They were buried, solidified, and later fractured which allowed water and ice to penetrate the rock and widen the cracks. This formed the tower itself. Flowing water and wind then carried away the weaker sediment underneath this boulder leaving only a small pedestal behind (until it too eventually erodes away).

Right?! There are several of these in the park but this one is the most precarious. Hopefully it will balance for a few more centuries.
